Chapter 7, Page 9, Book 21

I have never been hurt by what I have not said.

Calvin Coolidge

July 9th -silence is golden

Remember not only to say the right thing in the right place, but far more difficult still to leave unsaid the wrong thing at the tempting moment.

Benjamin Frianklin

Our words are very powerful and we need to be careful of what we say.   Words can make or break someone else’s day.  They can hart or heal. Sometimes it’s better to say nothings than to say the wrong thing.

I remember when DD was young and came in after school smelling like an old gym suit left in the locker too long.  She needed some deodorant.  I was so taken back, I said, You stink!  She ran from the room in tears and wouldn’t speak to me for a long time after that.  I know I needed to tell her it was time for her to start wearing deodorant but in my shock of my sweet daughter smelling so bad, I spoke too quickly.  We need to think before we speak.

Thinking before we speak is a good habit to develop, to avoid causing trouble in our life.  If it’s unavoidable to say something negative, thinking before we speak helps us be more tactful and understand how to offset of negativity with something positive.

It’s almost human nature to feel the need to contribute in a conversation, , but sometimes a siomething will pop up so quickly, it’s pretty hard to stop yourself. Therefore it’s a good habit to form so you automatically think before the words come out.

T.H.I.N.K

T for true:  Always make sure whatever you are saying is true.We shouldn’t  fuel gossip just to have something to say.  Just be hoeest and your words will be impactful.

H is for Helpful:  Helpful words are usually appreciated by everyone. But if you think your words by hurtful or mocking, then avoid speaking.

I is for Inspiring:  Saying somethat is encouraging, motivational or inspiring is always a good idea.

N is for Necessary:  Speak when necessary of try not to speak before they do something they shouldn’t or even explain a pessary concept to someone. If you can’t find something positive and kind to say, don’t say it.

This is the golden rule on thinking befor you speak, once you ask yourself these questions and get yes as the answer. you’re good to go.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool that to speak out and remove all doubt.

Abraham Lincoln

Oh, bless your hearts -- both DD and Ma! Totally understandable; after all we're only human. I do hope you can look back at that time and chuckle.

Great quotes. I'm actually surprised it was Ali who said that. So much for preconceptions about some people, huh? Have a good day!

SWEET, bitter at some parts, but all together a VERY good entry. YES there is a time to be frank and straight forward, BUT like your well chosen quotes, it is wise and gentle NOT to say many things. It is good to 'Keep the Peace' than give the world a piece of your mind.
Sherry & jack Well said and good THINK rules for sure.

Many people speak without thinking or realising how their words can hurt sometimes it isn't the words but the tone they are delivered with that causes the problem'
