The truth is rarely pure and never simple.
May 1st - honesty is the best policy
Once you eliminate the impossible, whatever remains, mo matter how improbable, must be the truth.
Arthur Conan Doyle
I learned early on in life that I might as well tell the truth and be done with it. No matter how much trouble I might be in, it would be worse when the truth was discovered later on.
There are two aspects of truthfulness; being true to yourself and being true to others. Truth matters to both individuals and to society as a while.
As individuals being truthful means that we can grow and mature, learning from our mistakes.
For society, truthfulness makes social bonds and lying and hypocrisy break them.
We tend to not tell everyone everything, even if it’s the truth. We have to consider if people need or want to know it all. Sometimes its better not to say anything at all. Truthfulness is important but so is not hurting others.
It is however, never acceptable to tell a lie in order to look better in others eyes, or to avoid trouble you have brought on yourself. If you lie about yourself and people find out, they are unlikely to trust you again.
No change is possible without knowing the truth. I cannot change something in myself if I’m not aware of it. Being true to yourself allows you to maintain a high level of integrity and brings you peace of mind. If you are true to yourself it becomes easier to be true to others, you become a better friend, partner, parent or colleague
Being able to tell the truth will earn your respect because it shows you really care for others. A lack of truth shows a lack of consideration for people .
Truth is a powerful tool we need to learn to use . While it might be painful to hear, we can learn not to deliver it in a way that leads people to get defensive. Truth that comes from a place of love and consideration will be appreciated
The truth is sincere, it is honest, it is hard, it is sharp, it is uncomfortable, but it always leaves the conscience calm and the heart happy.
Anyone who doesn’t take truth seriously in small matters cannot be trusted in the large ones either.
