Chapter 19, Page 19, Book 19

Life is not the way its supposed to be.  It is the way it is.  The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Virginia Satir

September 19th - Life don’t aways work out the way you want, but it always works out.

Life is not a matter of holding good cards, but of playing a poor hand well.

Robert Louis Stevenson

I think someone should tell us when we’re young, that life is not fair, but it will be what you make it. Life is what we make it and our attitude toward what happened makes a big difference.

Your life is the result of all the choices you have made up until this moment.  You are the only one responsible for where you are right not.  If you keep doing the same things over and over again, you will get the same results over and over again.  Your life will change the moment you decide to change.  It’s all  about our choices.

Life is what you make it.  Always has been, always will be.

Eleanor Roosevelt

I choose to be patient for I know life is a journey, not a destination.

I choose to express gratitude and appreciation daily

I choose to be happy, joyful and kind

I choose to get up every time I go down and start all over again because I know that I can do it.

I choose to look at the bright side of life.

I choose to have faith, know that things will always turn out for the best .

What we think determines what happens to us, so if we want to change our lives, we need to stretch our minds.

Chapter 9, Page 18, Book 19

Rather fail with honor than to succeed by fraud.

September 18th - no cheating

If honor were profitable, every one would be honorable.

Thomas More

Fraud seems to be rampart these days, there is always some kind of scam going on that is out to get you.  We can hardly know who to trust these days. An honorable man is hard to find.

Worda and actions are powerful. When you say you’ll do something and others expect you to do it or you may develop a reputation for not following though on commitments and letting people down.  Not honoring your word enough times can have people running in the other direction when they see you coming.

Everyone knows someone who claims to be honorable but doesn’t follow through.  These are the ones who make promises but quickly forget about them or change direction sas soon as they get what they want.  They say they’ll call but don’t and forget for whatever reason. They agree to meet, but don’t show up, or offer to help but when the time comes they are nowhere to be found.

Honoring your word is more that simply doing what you say or you do because your actions actually say more than words ever will.    When others know they can rely on you,  people are more willing to trust you with keeping your word.  Honrable people can be trusted in every way. and it’s important to maintain that trust by not sharing their information with others.

Honrable people are respected.  Friends hold you in high regard and coworkers conciser you an example of someone who should be valued. Anyone who consistantly acts in a dishonorable manner eventually loses personal pride.

If you want to be honorable you should always be authentic and don’t try to hide behind pride or a facade that you can’t live up to. Follow through and if you say you are going to do something, do it.Be honest but not mean.  Tell the truth, but don’t say something hurtful if it isn’t necessary.

Everyone has flaws, but we should work improving our own not calling out people on theirs.  If someone does something embarrassing resist the urge to say somthing hurtful, not matter how clever it sounds.  People may laugh because it’s funny at the moment, but after they think about it, they’ll think less of you.

Honor is something that takes a little effort, but has big rewards.  Being honorable will benefit you at home, with friends, and in business.

A man’s word is his honor.

Chapter 9, Page 17 Book 19

That which you hold, holds you.

Tom Robbins

September 17th - time to let go

Incredible change happens in your life when you decide to take control of what you do have power over instead of craving control over what you dont.

Steve Maraboli

It’s that time of year again when I do the fall switch of clothing.  My closets and drawer space are net big enough to hold all that I own.  So I store away what is not needed at the time.  The spare bedroom has a closet full of bins of clothing waiting to be used the next season.

I enmptied a few over the weekend and discovered a few that has things in them that I’ve not worn for a year or so.  I don’t know why I’m holding on to them. So it’s  time to let them go.

I aslo hold onto fall decorations and add to them each season, it seems.  I’ve been through those and found nothing to let go of.  They are stored outside in my storage shed which isn’t very large at all.  I holds decorations for each season and the lawn mower and the snow blower which have to be moved out of the way in order to get to the bins.  So what I’m holding on too causes me more work than anything.  We have to be careful about what we hold on to.

So many times when I finally get rid of something It’s then I discover that I should have kept it.
It’s a fine art of holding on and letting go.

Letting go helps us to live in a peaceful state of mind and helps restore our balance.  It allows others to be responsible for themselves and for us to take our hands off situations that do not belong to us.  This frees us from unnecessary stress.

Chapter 9, Page 16, Book 19

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched- they must be felt with the heart.

Helen Keller

September 16th - follow your heart

Respect other peoples feelings. It might mean nothing to you but it could mean everything to them.

Roy T. Bennett

It turns out that our heart does a lot more than just pump blood.  When we follow your heart, we cease to have regrets.  While things don’t always go in our favor, at least we will know we have tried.

We get to know ourselves on a level we’ve never known before.  If we listen to our hearts we may be surprised that we can find a way to make our hearts desire come true.

People who struggle with low self confidence, social anxiety, who believe they are not good enough need to follow their heart so they can begin to love themselves.  To believe they are good enough, even great.

We need to remember that we that we never know what’s going on in another person’s life.  We do not know what hardships they are going through.

We need to follow our hearts and trust our intuition, When we have faith and believe in our hearts we can survive anything that comes our way, and that it has come our way for a reason.  Our hearts know our true wants and needs and what makes us feel fulfilled.

Don’t let the emotions of others drown out your own inner voice.  Have courage and follow your own heat and intuition.  Everything else is secondary, - Steve Jobs

Smile, it is the key that fits the lock of everybodyheart.

Chapter 9, Page 15, Book 19

Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine

Jack Ma

September 15th - you can make it happen

I’m always saying we need to make our own sunshine.  When things are looking dark and dreary it’s up to us not to follow suit, but choose to change it.

There are many ways we can improve our lives, but nothing is going to work unless we do.  It’s up to us to make our days what we want them to be.  It’s a choice we all have.  We can choose to be sad or happy, and happiness is my choice.

For all sad words of tongue and pen.  The saddest are these.  It might have been

John Greenleaf Whittier

Happiness is a choice.  Happiness does't come from the sunshine or any other external factor.  Happiness is nothing more than a decision we make.  Happiness is deciding to focus on the positive things instead of the negative.  Happiness is deciding to keep difficult circumstances in perspective and how blessed life truly is.  Happinines is deciding to be grateful for every amazing thing in life.

There are days when everything goes wrong, everyone has them and it’s easy to get wrapped up in stressful days, but one way to battle it is by creating your own sunshine. Helping a friend out, writing about about the things, that make you happy, or looking at kittens on the internet are all things that can bring a little brightness to our days.

Somethings don’t go so well, but we can still make the best of a crappy day bring bring our own sunshine along.

Create your own sunshine - choose to be happy and have a wonderful day no matter what the weather does.

Infuse your life with action.  Dont wait for it to happen. Make it happen.  Make your own future.  Make your own hope.  Make your own love.  And whatever your beliefs, honor your creator, not by passively waiting for grace to come down upon high..  but by doing what you can to make grace happen…yourself, right now, right down here on Earth.

Chapter 9, Page 14, Book 19

The best thing to hold on to in life is each other.

Audrey Hepburn

September 14th - hold on

If we have no peace, it is because we have forgotten that we belong to each other.

Mother Teresa

It’s true, if we extend our hands to others who need us, suddenly we belong to each other.  We need each other for love and support.  No man is an island.

I know there have been many times in my life that I don’t know how I’d have made it without having loving family and friends to help me out.  We need to care for each other.

We need to care so much more about the relationships we create.  We need to build on them, foster them, invest in them .  People are important because the people in our lives are there  to inspire us, help us, care about us and push us to places we could not have gone on our own.  Think about the effort needed to put into caring about friendships.

One of the things that makes life so interesting is the vast diversity of poople on earth.  Each one of us is unique and it’s amazing what we have to offer each other.  It’s simple really, our connections with others makes us more fulfilled and help us to lead complete lives.  If you want to be happy , make someone else happy, just care a little.

Don’t let the harsh world rob you of your emotions.  Don’t let the cruelness of another deprive you of the love you can feel.  We are all human and we can thrive in this life together, if only we would care a little more.  We thrive and grow when we feel connected and supported by each other and we suffer when it’s not available.

I do believe were all connected.  I do believe in positive energy.  I do believe in the power of prayer .  I do believe in putting good out into the world .  And I believe in taking care of each other.

Harvey Fierstein

Chapter 9, Page 13, Book 19

Nobody gets through life without losing a few things on the way

Neil Gaiman

September  13th - lost and found

The beast test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without loosing heaert.

Robert Breen Ingersoll

We are always loosing things, but there are some things that are more noticeable than others..  Most of the time we dont know the true value of something until its lost.  We take so many things for granted.  The lost and found department here at my house is one of the busiest places in my house.  There are even times something will stare me right in the face and I dont see iit.

Learning to treasure what youve got before you loose it is a challenge.  Unfortunately many only realized the fortune they had when they loose it.  We have become accustom to the blessings in our daily life that take most of it for granted.  Instead most peoplle focus on what they dont have .  From material things to various ideals .It becomes difficult to notice all those things we might have eventually .  Time is one of those treasures. We fail to take notiece of all the small wonders that happen day after day.  Most people are so preoccupied with the things they dont have that they overlook the beauty this is already in their lives.

Lost time is never found again.

Benjamin Franklin

People are blindsided by the fancy, shiny, glorious objects in the distance so that they dont take notice of the treasures that are already present in their lives.  Most of these treasures might not sparkle like diamonds, they have no price tag, but more often than not they turn out to be the precious things that make our life worth living .

Dont wait until youve lost them in order to appreciate their value. Find the value of what you have while you have it.

Friendship is a priceless treasure never to be bought or sold - it can only be cherished.

Chapter 9, Page 12, Book 19

Variety’s the very spice of life, that gives it all it’s flavour.

William Cowper

September 12th  -variety is the spice of life

Be aware of wonder, Live a balance life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work some every day

Robert Fulghum

If we do the same thing over and over, soon or later we are going to get bored. But we don’t have to wait for something new of different to happen, we can create something nice for ourselves.  Every day can be a new adventure when we make it so.

We all can create some variety in our lives and make it more exciting.  I like to do a lot of different things so for me that is not hard at all.  I never have a boring day.  Some days I paint, sometimes, I read a book, other days I clean my house. Today I’m finishing up decorating for fall, which is something I do for each season of the year.  It changes the whole look of my house.  What was summer has now become fall here, just by switching out the decorations.

Just by changing a few things, I add some variety to my life.  I can also do that by changing where I sit each day. By going out on the sunporch, I get to see a lot of variety.  Nature is never boring and I’m thankful I have a choice.

Never feel like you are stuck in one place, variety will help keep you going.  No day will be ordinary when we take the time to enjoy it to the fullest.  If we get bored, it’s no one’s fault but our self, if you want to be happy, do something different and break up your routine.  Your day can turn in to something extra ordinary!

The secret of happiness is variety but the secret of variety like the secret of spice, is know when to use it.

Chapter 9, Page 11, Book 19

May All of Us Remember

May all of us remember with love and compassion this day
May we grieve with those who still mourn
And share memories with those who cannot forget
May we draw strength from those who bravely responded
And give their lives to save others.
May we stand with strangers who became neighbors that day
And remember their generosity and hospitality.
Above all God may we remember your faithfulness
And learn to trust in your unfailing love.

SEPTEMBER 11TH - we shall never forget

United we stand, divided we fall.

I’m thankful that what I remember most, is how our country came together, united together, in love and support of one another.  . People overcame their differenes to make a great whole together.  Unity is so important.  May we remember to keep united and never forget.

Alone we an do so little; together we can do so much

Chapter 9, Page 10, Book 19

Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes.  In order to be free, we must learn how to let go.  Release the hurt.  Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain.  The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?

Mary Marin Morrissey

September 10th - stumbling block or stepping stone

Develop success from failures.  Discoueragment and failure are two of the surest stepping stoenes to success.

Dale Carnegie

You are a stumbling block when you are unkind or unjust in the way you treat others. l But you are stepping stone when you support me and others in moments of weakness and doubt.

You are a stumbling block when you keep me down. hold me back or make me inferior.  But you are a stepping stone when you help me to believe in myself and boost my self confidence.

You are a stumbling block when you exclude me or ignore me.  But you are a stepping stone when you  help me to grow and develop my potential.

You are a stumbling block when you criticize me, sour me with cynicism and destroy my dreams .  But you are a stepping stone when you understand and listen to me and accept me as I am

We all face many stumbling blocks in life but they can be turned into stepping stones. Can we be stepping stones for someone else?

You build on failure.  Use it as a stepping stone.  Close the door on the past.  You don’t try to forget the mistakes, but you don’t dwell on it.  You don’t let it have any of your energy , or any of your time, or any of your space.

Chapter 9, Page 9, Book 19

Nobody ever did, or ever will escape the consequences of his choices.

Alfred Montapert

September 9th- think before you act

While we are free to choose our actions - we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions.

Steven  lR. Covey

Actions have consequences.  It is something I think we all learn at some point in our lives.  If youre obedient , then you wont get a time out.  if you hit your brother, then hell hit you back, if you dont eat dinner, then you dont get dessert.  Things like that happen to to most as children and teach the lessons of our choices..  They dont just affect us, but but others. too.

As adults our choices are a lot bigger and the consequences are bigger too.  If you dont go to work, you wont get paid, If I choose to spend money on movies, then I wont be able to pay rent,  if I dont save the money for gas, then I wont be able to drive anywhere.

It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men

Frederick Douglass

Everything we do affects other people, whether that is large or small.  Actions have consequences that we never see coming.  I think more people should have this reminder.  If you can, think again before you do something.   A single choice has a potential effect to someone else, Its called the Ripple effect and is a consequence of everything you do.    When we own our own situation and take responsibility for the choices that led to it, then is when we can create a different future.

You can do anything in this world  if you are prepared to take the consequences.

W. Sommerset Maugham
