Day 17 - there is nothing like a smile
And, so, Christmas comes to bless us!
Comes to teach us how to find
The joy of giving happiness
And the joy of being kind.
Gertrud Tooley Buckingham
Every time we see someone without a smile, rather than imagining the worst about them, try to see them as someone who needs a smile. We probably don’t know the whole story of their life, their sorrows, or how their day is going, but we can offer our smile and shine a little light on them.
A smile cost nothing, but gives much.
It enriches those who receive,
without making poorer those who give.
It take but a moment
but the memories of it sometimes lasts forever.
Non is so rich or mighty that he can get along without it, and non is so poor but that he can be made rich by it.
A smile creates happiness in the home,
fosters good will in business,
and is the countersign of friendship.
It brings rest to the weary,
cheer to the discouraged,
sunshine to the sad,
and is natures best antidote for trouble.
Yet it cannot be bought, begged, borrowed or stolen,
for it is something that is of no value to anyone
until it is given away.
Some people are too tired to give you a smile.
Give them one of yours,
as none needs a smile so much as he who has no more to give.
A little ray of sunshine could mean a lot to someone, we just never know. In any case, it will make you feel good and that alone is joy enough. When you see someone return your smile, it becomes a gift, freely and joyfully given.
Perhaps the best Yuletide decoration is being wreathed in smiles.
