Chapter 8, Page 31, Book 18

To Believe…

Author Unknown

To believe is to know that every day
is a new beginning.
It is to trust that miracles happen,
And dreams really do come true.
To believe is to see angels dancing amount the clouds.
To know the wonder of a stardust sky
and the wisdom of the man in the moon.
To believe is to know the value of a nurturing heart,
The innocence of a child’s eyes
and the beauty of an aging hand,
for it is through their teachings we learn to love.
To believe is to find the strength
and courage that lies within us.
When it is time to pick up the pieces and begin again.
To believe is to know we are not alone
That life is a gift and this is our time to cherish it.
To believe is to know that wonderful surprises
are just waiting to happen,
And all our hopes and dreams are within our reach.
If only we believe.

I’m a believer...

Beliefs have the power to create and the power to destroy.

Anthony Robbins

We all need something good to believe in.  Something that gives us hope and joy.  We need something to hold on to when things go wrong.  We all need to put our faith in something.

Beliefs determine what we do, how we do it and how we see ourselves.  Everything we see around us became possible because some one once believed. Faith, at its core is deep rooted in the expectation of good things to come.

When you believe in something, you can move mountains.

Isaac Stern

We are stronger than we know.  All it takes is belief in what we do.  If you believe that you can, you will do it.  What we value helps to shape our beliefs, attitudes and ideals. Values guide the way we live our lives and the decisions we make.

I think that if we believe in what makes our hearts full, we will find comfort in times of trouble and happiness in all that we do.

Whatever you truly believe, with feeling, becomes your reality.

Chapter 8, Page 30, Book 18

Whilst August yet wears her golden crown,
Ripening fields lush - bright with promise’
Summer waxes long, then wanes, quietly passing
Her fading green glory on to riotous Autumn.

Michelle L. Thieme

Just for today I will remember that life goes on…

When summer opens, I see how fast it matures,
and fear it will be short, but after the heats of July
and August, I am reconciled; like one who has had
his swing, to the cool of Autumn.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

The month of August is almost a thing of the past, tomorrow is the last day we have to enjoy it.  I’ll be saying a fond farewell and looking forward to September.  It was a hot month sprinkled with a few days of lower heat and humidity.

I got to enjoy the abundance of summer’s bounty.  Fresh fruits and vegetables.

I went to the beach for a day and enjoyed the refreshing breezes and relaxing rhythm of the waves going in and out.

I celebrated many family birthdays, one of which will be tomorrow.  One of my grandson’s turns eight.

We had lots of rain and the grass continues to grow.

People take pictures of Summer, just in case someone thought they had missed it, and to prove that it really existed.

Ray Davies

I went to our county fair and enjoyed some good fair food and all the sights as many displayed their cows, horses, chickens, rabbits, pigs and sheep.  They also displayed their talents as far as cooking, baking, bee keeping and quilt making.

The countryside is full of tall corn blowing in the wind and fields of soybeans reaching maturity.

The acorns have begun to fall from the oak trees and it won’t belong before the leaves will begin to fall too.

August is a month of abundance.

Life is like a camera.  Just focus on what’s important
and capture the good times, develop from the
negatives and if things don’t work out, just take
another shot.

Chapter 8, Page 29, Book 18

The only limit to our realization of tomorrow will be our doubts of today.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

At the very core of worry is doubt

Doubt kills more dreams that failure every will.

Suzy Kassem

Worrying will cause doubt and neither one is good for us.  The beauty is that we don’t have to live that way.  We don’t need to worry about tomorrow.  Banishing doubts and worries can be as simple as thinking positive.

Worry, doubt and fear can take away all the joy in our lives. But it doesn’t have to be that way. We can replace the negative thoughts with positive ones.  It’s our choice.

There is an old saying that says:  don’t worry, pray instead.    Happy people tend to give thanks for the many blessings in life rather than worrying or doubting.

Life is all about prioritizing the things matter most in our life.  True happiness may depend on how we view the world and what we think about.  It’s always good to be positive and let go of the negative.

You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt, as young as your self confidence, as old as your fear, as young as your hope, as old as your despair.

Chapter 8, Page 28, Book 18

Alone we can so little, together we can do so much.

Helen Keller

The more the merrier!

Many hands make light work.

John Heywood

The cliche, the more the merrier, means that the more people there are, the better or more enjoyable the situation will be.  I know for a fact that more helpers make a task easier and the work gets done faster.  It’s tempting to believe that we can live this life all on our own but the truth is there are times we all need each other for accountability, encouragement and help. We can’t do it on our own.

We thrive when we feel connected and supported by each other. It’s nice to have a certain amount of independence and to be able to things on our own, but that is not always possible.  I depend on the electric and power companies to supply heat and air conditioning,  I depend on the garbage men to take the trash away.  I depend on my family and friends when I need help.  I can’t do everything for myself.

We are people who need people.

We’re all in this together if we’re in it at all.

Johnny Cash

Smile!

A brand new day awaits you !

Is it Monday already?

Start every day with a smile and get it over with

W.C. Fields

Today is a new day which is also the beginning of another new week.  For some it means going back to work, for others it means taking up the daily tasks at home like laundry and house cleaning.  People either hate it or love it.

How we begin our morning sets the tone and our attitude for the whole day, so it’s best to make it a good start.  It can derail or direct our focus.

Even if there are leftover projects from the previous day, try to start each day as a fresh one.  It’s all about having a good attitude.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Abbie Hoffman

Every day can be amazing when you start it right.   Be positive and everything will be okay. Start your day with a smile and lots of joy in your heart.   It makes your whole day better and chances are it will brighten up someone else’s day as well.

This bright new day…complete with 24 hours of opportunities, choices and attitudes…a perfectly matched set of 1440 minutes. This unique gift, this one day, cannot be exchanged, replaced or refunded.  Handle with care.  Make the most of it.  There is only one to a customer.

Chapter 8, Page 26, Book 18

The happiest people I know…are devoted to something bigger than themselves.

John Glen

Doing a bit more

Nothing truly valuable arises from ambition or from a year sense of duty, it stems rather from love and devotion toward men, and toward objective things.

Albert Einstein

To be devoted to something or someone means being focused on that particular thing almost exclusively. When you are devoted to a cause, you you work to achieve its goals.  The you are devoted to a person, you place their needs above your own.

When we are devoted to someone or something we take the time to show up.  We stay the course.  We do the best we can in each changing moment and we come back when we lose our way.

You cannot buy or fake devotion.  It can only be gathered by showing up over and over again with intention.  If you feel loyal and loving toward someone or something, that’s devotion.

Loyalty, respect and devotion are the basis for good relationships.  Inspiring devotion in another person starts with you, your actions, your beliefs and behaviors.

I learned the real meaning of love.  Love is absolute loyalty.  People fade, looks fade, but loyalty never fades.  You can depend so much on certain people, you can set your watch by them.  And that is love, even if it doesn’t  seem very exciting.

Chapter 8, Page 25, Book 18

It is better to know some of the questions than all the answers.

James Thurber

Forever young

What is important is to keep learning, to enjoy challenge, and to tolerate ambiguity.  In the end there an no certain answers.

Martina Horner

One of best things is life is that we never have to stop learning.  Learning never ends because change never stops.

I have known some people that think they know everything, but thankfully I’m not one of those.  Although I’ve lived a long life, I‘ve found that I learn something new every day and it’s not always when I’m looking for an answer.

This world is so full of many different things I think it would be impossible to know all the answers.  And I’ve learned that many of the answers you get also depend on the questions you ask.

Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eight.  Anyone who keeps learning stay young.

Henry Ford

There is always something new to learn or old to polish.  It doesn’t matter if you are a spring chicken or you have been around the block a few times, we are never too old to learn.

We will never know all the answers, new ideas and discoveries emerge every day. And just because we think we may know the answer, a different perspective can put a whole new slant on things.

The best of all things is to learn.  Money can be lost or stolen, health and strength may fail, but what you have committed to your mind is yours forever.

Louis L’Amour

Chapter 8, Page 24, Book 18

You’ve gotta have hope.  Without hope life is meaningless.  With out hope life is meaning less and less.

Author Unknown

Let’s live in hope

The capacity for hope is the most significant fact of life. It provides human beings with a sense of destination and the energy to get started.

Norman Cousins

Hope is a favorable and confident expectation.  It’s an expectant attitude that some good is going to happen and things will work out no matter what situation we are facing.  Hope is determined and doesn’t give up.

There is a lot of power in hope.  Hope will find a way.  They say that human beings can live about forty days without food, about eight minutes without air but only for one second without hope.

We hope and we cope believing that there will be a better day tomorrow.

No matter how difficult life can be the most important thing is live it with hope.

Chapter 8, Page 23, Book 18

If a man could have half his wishes, he would double his troubles.

Benjamin Franklin

Be careful what you wish for

If there’s a single lesson that life teaches us, it’s that wishing doesn’t make it so.

Lev Grossman

It seems so many people these days are wishing their lives away.  Wishing that they could be some place else or wishing they could have something else other than what they have.

It’s good to have hopes and dreams but we have to remember to be thankful for what we have right now. Don’t wish the moment away.

When we live in the moment and enjoy what we have, one day at a time, we can look back on this time and remember how wonderful it was.

We are not promised tomorrow, Today is the best day of the year !

The trick is to enjoy life.  Don’t wish away your days, waiting for better ones ahead.

Chapter 8, Page 22, Book 18

When you’ve done a great job you deserve a great reward.  Enjoy rewarding yourself, and let that reward push you to do even more.

Ralph Marston

The rewards in life

The highest reward for a person’s toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it.

John Ruskin

I like to think of retirement as a reward for all the hard work I’ve done in my life.  The truth is you don’t have retire to appreciate the rewards that life has to offer.

Each day is a chance to make dreams come true and a celebration of value and accomplishments.  Take time to recognize and congratulate yourself for what you plan to do, what you tried to do, what you can do.  Everything matters.  There is significance in what you do.

Look at how much you do each and every day .  Reward yourself.  Appreciate yourself.  Honor your worth.

When we take time to notice the things that go right - it means we’re getting a lot of little rewards throughout the day.

Martin Seligman

Chapter 8, Page 21, Book 18

We turn not older with years, but newer every day.

Emily Dickinson

Newer every day !

You can't help getting older, but you don’t have to get old.

George Burns

It’s true, I am not the same person I was yesterday and tomorrow I’ll be a little bit different too.  We change as we grow and grow as we change.

The one constant in our lives is change.  It never stops.  If we don’t change we don’t grow.  Growth happens at a physical, emotional and spiritual levels every moment. Who we are now is not who we were last year, last week, or even a minute ago. We age.

Change makes us more flexible and adaptable.  Change makes us more compassionate.  You grow and learn new things every time something changes.

How we deal with change, how we embrace it, and what we choose to learn from it is up to us.

Time is too slow for those who wait, too swift for those who fear, too long for those who grieve, too short for those who rejoice; but for those who love, time is eternity.

Henry Van Dyke.

Chapter 8, Page 20, Book 18

Sticks and stones will break our bones, but words will break our hearts.

Robert Fulghum

Speak the truth in love

Truth is such a rare thing, it is delight to tell it.

Emily Dickenson

We often hear it said that we should think before we speak.  Our words can be a dangerous weapon or a source of praise.

Our speech can build others up rather than tear them down when we speak the truth in love. It’s all in the way we package it.  The phrase is normally used to mean to say things in a charitable way.

If what we need to say can’t be said in love, it doesn’t need to be said at all.  I think that when we speak the truth we are showing people that we love them.  Love is truth and truth is love.

When it comes to speaking, not only is what we say important but also how we say it.  There is power in our words.

Truth is like the sun.  You can shut it out for a time, but it’s not going to go away.

Elvis Presley

Chapter 8, Page 19, Book 18

You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.

Amy Carmichael

The greatest gift

To give and not expect return, that is what lies at the heart of love.

Oscar Wilde

I think the greatest gift we can give and that we can receive is love.  Love is what makes this crazy world we live in worthwhile.  Love brings life everywhere it goes.

The feeling of love is the very best feeling in the world.  Yet most people do not go through there days filled with love and instead feel empty and alone.

Sharing love is truly an amazing experience.  Time and place are irrelevant.  Love can be had from any distance.  The love we share shows that we care. You can have more for yourself when you share.   Without love we are nothing.

Love lifts us up, moves us, colors our world, holds us steady is in a storm.  Love is where we go in times of darkness and in times of light. It knows no bounds.  Love is the glue that puts us together when we are broken.

Even if a person has billions of dollars, thousand of friends and hundreds of things, they are no richer than anyone who has love.

The greatest gift that you can give to others if the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.

Brian Tracy
