For the beauty of the earth
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth
Over and around us lies.
Lord of all, to Thee we raise,
This our hymn of grateful praise.
Foliott S. Pierpoint, lyrics
Today I am thankful for the natural wonders all around us
The grand show is eternal. It is always sunrise somewhere; the dew is never dried all at once; a shower is forever falling; vapor is ever rising. Eternal sunrise, eternal dawn and gloaming, on sea and continents and islands, each in its turn, as the round earth rolls.
I am thankful for the constancy of the sun that rises each day. I’m thankful for the oceans, lakes, seas and rivers. I am thankful beauty of plants and shrubs that cover the earth. Without the trees and flowers our planet would seem bare.
They say that the Seven Natural Wonders of the World are the Grand Canyon in the United States, the Paricutin volcano in Mexico, the Northern Lights, the harbor of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil, Victoria Falls in Zambia/Zimbabwe, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and Mount Everest in Nepal.
I’ve never been to any of those places but I think that that it’s up to us to experience nature; connect with the earth and to witness beauty all around us. Sometimes we may miss these moments. We overlook them on our way to something we consider more meaningful. To become aware, we slow down, look, and listen to what is present right now.
With so many natural environments and whole communities being devastated by flooding and fires, it’s even more important to be thankful and admire the beauty of the earth around us.
Gratitude is the cultivation of being thankful for everything around us, even the things we do not yet understand.
I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see. The longer I live, the more my mind dwells upon the beauty and the wonder of the world.
