Chapter 11, Page 11, Book 17

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow... In Flanders fields.

 John McCrae

November 11th

Today I’m thankful for our Veterans

The moon gives you light, and the bugles and the drums give you music, and my heart, O my soldiers, my veterans, my heart gives you love.

 Walt Whitman

Today is Veterans Day and Remembrance Day. McCrae's inspiration, bright red poppies are still used by veterans around the world to honor and remember those who have died in wars. Poppies are sold to raise money for needy veterans and to honor those who gave their lives for freedom.   Our freedoms were, and are so hard fought for.

To our veterans of yesterday, those serving today, and those who are so willing and desirous to prepare to serve, I am most grateful for you.

 I am grateful for those who put themselves in harm’s way, endure long separations from families, and consider it an honor to serve.

Take a moment out of your day, November 11, at 11:11, to think about the sacrifices of our Veterans; We owe them much!

Lord, bid war's trumpet cease;
Fold the whole earth in peace.
Oliver Wendell Holmes

I like it that a lot of restaurants here give free meals to veterans. Nice way to remember their services and appreciate their dedication to helping protect our country.
