It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.

Chapter 9, Page 30, Book 16

The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us and we see nothing but sand; the angels come to visit us, and we only know them when they're gone.

George Eliot

September 30th - saying farewell to September days

Whether it's the best of times or the worst of times, it's the only time we've got

Art Buchwald

The days of September flew by here at my house.  I’m barely cognizant of the fact they even existed.  There were a few highlights that will definitely be remembered, but even though I try to make each day count, what happened to the other days is a blur.

Today is what counts and it’s up to me to make the moments memorable or not.  The next 24 hours has 1,440 minutes, all I can say is, I know I will never live these moments again.

Don't count every hour in the day, make every hour in the day count.

Just for fun, I’m going to try and keep track of a memorable moment for each day of October.  I live a pretty quiet life so maybe they won’t seem so memorable to you, but they will be the best I can do with the moments I have.

Yesterday’s memorable moment was hearing from both of my sisters.  I love them both so much and they mean a lot to me.  I don’t hear from either of them every day so it was memorable.  We’ll see what today brings!

Some moments are nice, some are
nicer, some are even worth
writing about.

Chapter 9, Page 29, Book 16

Live. And Live Well. BREATHE. Breathe in and Breathe deeply. Be PRESENT. Do not be past. Do not be future. Be now. On a crystal clear, breezy 70 degree day, roll down the windows and FEEL the wind against your skin. Feel the warmth of the sun. If you run, then allow those first few breaths on a cool Autumn day to FREEZE your lungs and do not just be alarmed, be ALIVE. Get knee-deep in a novel and LOSE track of time. If you bike, pedal HARD

Kyle Lake

September 29th - Breathe deeply

Take a deep breath.

Count your blessings.

Seize the moment while you can.

There have been more than a few times that I’ve forgotten to breath lately.

Breathing is supposed to be one of the simplest yet most effective ways to manage stress's effects on your body.  When you’re stressed, you have a tendency to breathe more shallowly and rapidly, some people even hold their breath, depriving their body of vital oxygen.  To promote relaxation, breathe slowly and deep. Breathing deeply and slowly instantly calms us down mentally as well as physically

Sometimes the best thing you can do is just breathe

That advice doesn't just apply to me and my life, it applies to all of us and we all sometimes need the reminder that we need to take a deep breath .  When you breathe in deeply you invite brand new life and possibilities.  Think about it: You can go weeks without food, days without water but only minutes without air.  Air is so much more than just oxygen. Your breath connects you to infinite potential and to the pure joy of being alive.

Fear less, hope more; eat less, chew more; whine less breathe more; talk less, say more; hate less, love more; and all good things are yours.

Chapter 9, Page 28, Book 16

Life is filled with seasons and this is a different season.

Tom Brokaw

September 28th - A reason, a season, a lifetime...going with the flow

Things are the same and not the same here at my house.  Most days I try to go with the flow, knowing that things are not the same any more.  There is always the the same things to do but I’ve added a few new ones to the list.  Doing things the same and not the same is a mixture that has left me a little discombobulated.

If you feather your nest with love, the bluebird of happiness is more likely to take up residence.

 Susan Gale

My nest has had it’s feathers ruffled. Things in my comfortable nest have to be changed around.  Winter is coming and I must be prepared. Fall is a season of change and for me the changes are not all good.  One thing I know for sure is that everything happens for a reason so although it’s not the same. there will more than likely will be some good that comes out of it all.  We never give up hope, for ourselves or our loved ones!

I’ll be going with the flow even though each day is a constant change,  somethings stay the same and some change.

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Chapter 9, Page 27, Book 16

If we are ever to enjoy life, now is the time -- not tomorrow, nor next year, nor in some future life after we have died. The best preparation for a better life next year is a full, complete, harmonious, joyous life this year. Today should always be our most wonderful day.

Thomas Dreier

September 27th - The only day that matters is today

Build today, then strong and sure, With a firm and ample base; And ascending and secure. Shall tomorrow find its place.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It's easy to get lost in the mistakes of yesterday or focus on the anxiety of what tomorrow will bring, but today is what matters. Live in the now and make today count. Focus on today. Do something that matters

It Doesn’t Matter

It doesn’t matter what anyone thinks

It doesn’t matter that my car is 10 years old

It doesn’t matter I gained five pounds

It doesn’t matter that I eat breakfast for dinner

It doesn’t matter if I have a bad hair day

It doesn’t matter that you forgot my birthday

It doesn’t matter that I came in last

It doesn’t matter what someone thinks of my family

It doesn’t matter if I leave dishes in the sink at night

It doesn’t matter how much money we have

It doesn’t matter that I’m short and your tall

It doesn’t matter the color of your skin

It doesn’t matter I made a mistake

It doesn’t matter what I did in my past

It doesn’t matter if you have the last word

It doesn’t matter if I don’t get my way

It doesn’t matter if you disagree with me

It Matters

It matters that I practice what I preach

It matters that I kissed him goodbye

It matters that I have compassion

It matters that I spoke kind words

It matters that I made someone smile

It matters that I spend time with family

It matters that I love my friends

It matters that I’m here to listen

It matters that I’m here to help

It matters that I forgive and forget

It matters that I am a happy person

Each day we are born again. It's what we do today that matters most.

Chapter 9, Page 26, Book 16

I love fall! Fall is exciting.
It's apples and cider.
It's an airborne spider.
It's pumpkins in bins.
It's burrs on dog's chins.
It's wind blowing leaves.
It's chilly red knees.
It's nuts on the ground.
It's a crisp dry sound.
It's green leaves turning
And the smell of them burning.
It's clouds in the sky.
It's fall. That's why...
I love fall.

Author Unknown

September 26- lets Fall

I loved autumn, the one season of the year that God seemed to have put there just for the beauty of it.

Lee Maynard

Fall is such a great season. I love it mostly because of that wave of coldness I feel at the first sign of its approaching. After a long summer that crisp air that comes in the fall just feels so good and invigorates you.

Fall makes us all feel like falling in love.  Maybe it’s simply because there is so much for us to fall for, and we notice a little bit more when the leaves start to fall.  Fall fills us with an inner warmth that cannot be matched by the summer’s sun.

It’s the cinnamon spices that linger in the air and leave a trail that forever smells like home.

We’re close to the weather forecasts that call for our beloved boots to hug our feet and snuggling into our scarves that still smell a bit of the last winter.  It’s falling in love with the layers you wear and the ones you’ve shed since the last fall when you let go of your inhibitions.

We fall in love with the season with our first sip of hot cider, as it hits your tongue, warm and quick, you can’t help but smile.

I’m falling for Fall in all it’s wondrous glory.

Of all the seasons, autumn offers the most to man and requires the least of him.

Chapter 9, Page 25, Book 16

In school, you're taught a lesson and then given a test. In life, you're given a test that teaches you a lesson.

Tom Bodett

September 25th - Another test, another lesson to be learned

Life is a required course. Might as well do your best to pass it! You will get through this!

Max Lucado

Life is a test of seeing how a person will react to the various situations they will encounter.  The lessons learned in life are often ones we have to learn the hard way. School is where we go to learn the lessons, then take the test. However, in the school of life, tests come first and then hopefully we learn the lessons.  And guess what?  If you don’t past the test the first time, you get to learn the lessons again.

We do learn a lot from our mistakes.  I'm still working on this, and some lessons take longer than others.  It's never easy to admit you've made a mistake, but it's a crucial step in learning, growing, and improving yourself.

When you understand that life is a test, you realize that nothing is insignificant in your life. Even the smallest incident has significance for your character development. Every day is an important day, and every second is a growth opportunity to deepen your character, to demonstrate love, or to depend on God.

Chapter 9, Page 24, Book 16

Be Thankful

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don't know something.
For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations.
Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge.
Because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you're tired and weary.
It means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those
who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles
and they can become your blessings.

Author Unknown

September 24th - Begin... and end today with a Thank You.

Give thanks for all things. All things great and small, good, bad, for all things are for a purpose.

Ann Herbstreith

Begin today with a THANK YOU. There is so much to be grateful for. Each new day is 24 new hours to live and celebrate life. Acknowledge your gifts and be grateful for everything. To look at life with gratitude is to clearly see opportunities. Even at those times of the greatest challenges, with gratitude, any difficulty can be transformed into a blessing, into a meaningful lesson of growth.

Gratitude and thankfulness are the basis for peace of mind and happiness.

Being grateful brings great peace to your life because it brings happiness into your life.  You no longer borrow trouble thinking and worrying about things, but accept them and try and see what the positive side of that situation is for you.

No longer forward nor behind
I look in hope or fear;
But, grateful, take the good I find,
The best of now and here.

Chapter 9, Page 23, Book 16

A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

Proverbs 17:22
September 23rd - remember the light side

If life seems jolly rotten. There's something you've forgotten. And that's to laugh and smile and dance and sing...

We tend to value hard work and seriousness, and we forget to pay our respects to the equally important, light side of silliness and laughter. Being happy has nothing to do with money or fame, and everything to do with the heart.

Let the fun begin !  Lighten up! Snap out of it!  C’mon, get happy!

There is an old saying that says, Laughter is good medicine, and we all have this medicine available to us whenever we recall a funny story or act in a silly way. We magnify the effects of this medicine when we share it with the people in our lives. If we are lucky, they will have something funny to share with us as well, and the life loving sound of laughter will continue to roll out of our mouths and into the world.  Laughter is contagious!

Life is tough, and if you have the ability to laugh at it, you have the ability to enjoy it.

 Salma Hayek

As strange as it seems, after a great deal of merriment, it can actually be a pleasure to settle down and focus on work until our next round of fun begins.

A smile can brighten the darkest day.

Chapter 9, Page 22, Book 16

7 Rules of Life

1) Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
2) What others think of you is none of your business.
3) Time heals almost everything, give it time.
4) Don't compare your life to others and don't judge them. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
5) Stop thinking too much, it's alright not to know the answers. They will come to you when you least expect it.
6) No one is in charge of your happiness, except you.
7) Smile. You don't own all the problems in the world.

September 22nd - rules for life

I follow three rules: Do the right thing, do the best you can, and always show people you care.

Lou Holtz

We’ve all been in situations in which we were being trained for something. Perhaps it was a new job, a lesson in school, or a military commission. In the course of our training, some commands became so internalized that we still follow them years later: Say please and thank you. Stand up straight. Look both ways before you cross the street. They become second nature to us.

This is how most commands work. Whether to teach us manners, good habits, or independent living skills, rules are drilled into us so that we won’t break them. We probably become thankful for them over time, but rarely would people say that they delight in commands at the moment they are given.

7 Rules to be happy in life:

1) Never hate
 2) Don't worry
3) Live simple
4) Expect a little
 5) Give a lot
 6) Always smile
 7) And keep in touch with GOD.

They say that we first make our habits, and then our habits make us.  From the time I was little onward, I learned a lot of lessons that have become habits in my life, that have shaped how I act and how I think. And I am thankful for my parents, my teachers and also the friends and family in my life that taught me the best way to live.

I think Robert Fulghum’s statement says it better than I could.

All I really need to know about how to live and what to do and how to be I learned in kindergarten.

Share everything.
Play fair.
 Don't hit people.
Put things back where you found them.
Clean up your own mess.
Don't take things that aren't yours.
Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody.
Wash your hands before you eat.
Warm cookies and cold milk are good for you.
Live a balanced life - learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.
Take a nap every afternoon.
When you go out in the world, watch out for traffic, hold hands and stick together.
Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Styrofoam cup: the roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.
Goldfish and hamsters and white mice and even the little seed in the Styrofoam cup - they all die. So do we.
And then remember the Dick and Jane books and the first word you learned, the biggest word of all, LOOK.

Everything you need to know is in there somewhere. The Golden Rule and love and basic sanitation. Ecology and politics and equality and sane living.

Not all rules and not all habits are good, but we do need them in our lives.  Rules and boundaries keep us safe.

No rules for success will work if you don't.

Be aware of wonder. Live a balanced life--learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some.

Robert Fulghum

September 21st - harmony and peace

Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised.

Denis Waitley

If we add some dirt and sand to a glass of water it becomes murky, dirty and looks awful. Give it a good shake and it gets even worse. If we leave the glass for a few hours, the water finds its own balance, the sand and silt fall to the bottom and the water becomes clear again.

Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance and order and rhythm and harmony.

Thomas Merton

Life is so unpredictable that the water in our glass can often be cloudy and unclear. Tomorrow we will have the Autumn equinox with equal daylight and darkness. Nature in a sense is at balance but will soon move out of balance as daylight decreases for the coming months. Finding balance in our own personal lives is never easy given that so much is changing around us.

The seasons are what a symphony ought to be: four perfect movements in harmony with each other.

Chapter 9, Page 20, Book 16

The meaning of life is whatever you ascribe it to be. Being alive is the meaning.

Joseph Campbell

September 20th - Let's smile, and be grateful for another day.

Love yourself for who you are today, because today is a gift and you'll never see another day like today.

I’m very grateful to be alive.   I don’t spend time worrying about what to do. I just embrace the day and all that it has in store for me.  Every day brings with it new opportunities and surprises.  Both are gifts that we either take advantage of or ignore.

Everybody is given a brand new day. Everybody is given another day to love. Everybody is given another day of hope. Everybody is given another chance to do whatever they have failed to accomplish. Everybody applies to those who are still alive.

After all I get another day to make someone smile. To stumble on happiness. To smell the rain. And to be thankful for one more day.

Life is short and precious, make sure you enjoy every minute of it

Welcome every morning with a smile. Look on the new day as another special gift from your Creator, another golden opportunity to complete what you were unable to finish yesterday. Be a self starter. Let your first hour set the theme of success and positive action that is certain to echo through your entire day. Today will never happen again. Don't waste it with a false start or no start at all. You were not born to fail.

Chapter 9, Page 19, Book 16

Teach us Delight in simple things,
And Mirth that has no bitter springs

Rudyard Kipling

September 19th - delight

It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all.

Laura Ingalls Wilder

The simplest things in life often bring the most pleasure. The simple things in my life like cooking, laundry, and my children and grandchildren are what I delight in.

Despite a lifetime of watching babies learn how to walk, we will always be mesmerized in a child’s first steps. We will always cheer our little ones on at the loss of a tooth and be taken back to our own childhoods in the process. They will always bring us laughter as they delight in discovering the simple things in this life that we adults can often take for granted.

I remember a story of a little girl who came running downstairs one morning, lighthearted as only a child can be. She rushed into the kitchen and noticed that her mother wore a grim expression.

Mommy, she said, aren't you happy?
Why certainly I'm happy, her mother replied.
Well, said the little girl, you certainly haven't told your face yet.

Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn't people feel as free to delight in whatever remains to them?

Rose F. Kennedy

The child believes the world should be perfect and is outraged to discover it is not. And the child is right.  A child gives love for the sake of love. Yet an adult can also learn to do the same.

Each one of us has the opportunity to make our life beautiful by sharing with others the joy of living.  Delighting  in each moment as it happens and being thankful for them.

A hug delights and warms and charms, that must be why God gave us arms.

For every one of us that succeeds, it's because there's somebody there to show you the way out.

Oprah Winfrey

September 18th - I am not where I want to be, but thank God, I’m not where I used to be. I’m okay and I’m on my way!

Either I will find a way, or I will make one.

Philip Sidney

Way of life: the behavior and habits that are typical of a particular person or group, or that are chosen by them

Life is one big road with lots of signs. So when you riding through the ruts, don't complicate your mind. Flee from hate, mischief and jealousy. Don't bury your thoughts, put your vision to reality. Wake Up and Live!

Bob Marley
At this point in my life I think I’ve hit a rumble strip on the road of life.  But I’m trying to remember that every day we get a new chance to begin again and I for one am thankful for it.  Yesterday may not have been quite so good, today I get another chance to make it better.  I’m ok and I’m on my way !

Life is not the way it’s supposed to be. It’s the way it is. The way you cope with it is what makes the difference.

Virginia Satir

Never stop starting over. For God’s mercies are new every morning and so are his opportunities,  Fortunately for me, the road ahead is patient and it waits for the journey to start. There are no road signs to stop me or speed limits to obey. Instead there is a clear path to go from where I am today to where I want to be tomorrow.

If things aren’t working in my life right now it’s because I’m not working on them. So, it’s time to make a change. It’s time to move.
The forward movement feels exhilarating; it feels like freedom. The speed is helping me see things with better clarity.

I see hope is not going to find me until I allow hope to find me. I see courage is not going to find me until I allow courage to find me. They have been pulled over on the side of the road, resting and waiting for me to arrive.

I’m on my way.

Life is a precious one way journey. Move forward.

Find a way!

Chapter 9, Page 17, Book 16

Thou hast given so much to me,
Give one thing more, — a grateful heart;
Not thankful when it pleaseth me,
As if Thy blessings had spare days,
But such a heart whose pulse may be Thy praise.

George Herbert

September 17th - start each day with a grateful heart

Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, worn or consumed. Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace, and gratitude.

Denis Waitley

A great quote helps me to dive deeper into a subject and appreciate it more, and today's topic is gratitude.

They say that happiness doesn’t always make us grateful, but gratitude will always helps us smile.  Gratitude is the foundation of happiness. and is simply the blessed experience of living with a genuinely grateful heart.

No duty is more urgent than that of returning thanks.

James Allen

A grateful state of mind is really hard to maintain when life disappoints us.  But the point is that it’s when we’re feeling down and disappointed, that a dose of gratitude is most powerful.

It takes practice, of course, because gratitude tends to escape us when we feel let down.  A grateful person never forgets that each day brings a new blessing.

You cannot be grateful and bitter.
You cannot be grateful and unhappy.
You cannot be grateful and without hope.
You cannot be grateful and unloving.
So just be grateful.

Chapter 9, Page 16, Book 16

Change the changeable, accept the unchangeable, and remove yourself from the unacceptable.

Denis Waitley

September 16th - ready for changes

Happy people roll with the punches. They know from experience that everything changes. Today's good fortune may vanish tomorrow, today's crisis may turn out to be tomorrow's good fortune.

Author Unknown

It is very fall like here this morning.  Cooler than it has been for a few months for sure. Fall is very close now at any rate and a lot changes will be coming here in my part of the world.  Many people describe their lives as seasons of the year. Some are happy times, others sad; some are productive while others seem wasteful; some inspire peace and others bring pain.  Each major transition in our lives requires our undivided time and attention for successful passage. Each one also presents a gift, if we're open to receiving it.

Every year, winter comes. It always comes. We deal with it by preparing for it. Whether it’s changing our clothing or changing our way of life, we always get ready for winter, because we know it’s coming. The same applies to your life. Rough times come. No life goes smoothly without a problem from beginning to end. Thus, you have to be ready for it, for when it does come, you are not stuck in the cold without a coat. Be ready to handle the winters in your own life.

There are things I can't force. I must adjust. There are times when the greatest change needed is a change of my viewpoint.

C. M. Ward

After a long winter, comes the spring. This is a time where opportunities arise. Flowers blossom and creatures come out of their hibernation. The same thing applies within your life. After a challenging time, you will be faced with a great opportunity. It is your duty to take full advantage of the springs when they pop up. This is our moment to plant the seeds of greatness to come.

Life is known only by those who have found a way to be comfortable with change and the unknown. Given the nature of life, there may be no security, but only adventure.

Rachel Naomi Remen

Having planted  seeds in the spring, soon the summer will come. This is a time to reap the benefits of your crops. As well as being a time of joy and comfort, it is also a time to be careful. If you are not careful, your crops will be either stolen, destroyed, or spoiled. Therefore you must do whatever it takes to protect your crops. Once you have achieved something in your life, you must defend it. You must stand up for it, and protect its value.

As the autumn comes, the trees change color, lose their leaves, and the weather gets cooler. As you gear up for another winter, it is the best time to take full responsibility of what happened in the previous seasons, both the good and the bad.

They say that fall is the time of the year where there is more depression than any other time. This is due to people not taking such responsibilities and learning from previous successes and/or mistakes. Only by doing so can you be ready once more to handle another winter that is coming and plan for the following spring and summer.

The flow of life is a process of change. We must learn to accept the process and go with it. There's no stopping it anyway.

There are seasons in life. Don't ever let anyone try to deny you the joy of one season because they believe you should stay in another season... Listen to yourself. Trust your instincts. Keep your perspective.

Chapter 9, Page 15, Book 16

There is nothing more beautiful than someone who goes out of their way to make life beautiful for others.

Mandy Hale

September 15- happiest when helping

We make a living by what we get; we make a life by what we give

Winston Churchill

There is a Chinese saying that goes: If you want happiness for an hour, take a nap. If you want happiness for a day, go fishing. If you want happiness for a year, inherit a fortune. If you want happiness for a lifetime, help somebody.

Thankfully, the good Lord gives us the ability and opportunities to help others all throughout every day. When we take the time to be a blessing, it causes us to focus less on what we don’t have, feel grateful for what we do have, and experience a new level of joy in the process. We should never let a day go by without helping someone.

The gift of time is often more valuable to the receiver and more satisfying for the giver than the gift of money. We don’t all have the same amount of money, but we all do have time on our hands, and can give some of this time to help others.

In helping others, we help ourselves.   Everyone needs to be happy. It's how we get through the many challenges that life throws at us.

Bottom line: If you're happy, you're more likely to help and uplift others, and your actions inspire others to go out, be happy, and help others.

No one is useless in this world who lightens the burdens of another.

Charles Dickens

Chapter 9, Page 14, Book 16

We all have the means to bestow on others the most lavish gifts; love, joy, peace, hope, kindness, acceptance, encouragement, laughter, forgiveness, time. There is not enough money to buy them and not too little money to give them. The more you spend, the wealthier you become; yet nothing will cost you more than what you freely possess to give.

Eden Eliot

September 14th - accept

Give love and unconditional acceptance to those you encounter, and notice what happens.

Wayne Dyer

When it comes to living a positive life, acceptance is key, particularly acceptance of others. Sometimes we think our way is best and when others disagree or act in a way we don’t understand, we tend to become judgmental and critical of them. Not accepting others is a result of seeing the negative in them.

The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.

Brian Tracy

I think there are times we all struggle to accept others as they are, especially those closest to us, but it’s important to recognize that becoming more accepting of others is one way to make our relationships with others more positive. The more accepting we are, the more our relationships can flourish. And the more our relationships flourish, the more positive experiences we’ll have with others.

When we shift our thoughts from judging to accepting, not only others, but also ourselves, we can restore our happiness.

Chapter 9, Page 13, Book 16

Forgiveness is a funny thing. It warms the heart and cools the sting.

 William Arthur Ward

September 13th - forgive

Forgiveness isn't about releasing someone from accountability for their actions. It is about us letting go of our anger and resentment.

Author Unknown

Forgiveness is an attitude of being willing to let go of unrealistic expectations of self and others.

Forgiveness is the best medicine for most of the hurts we experience in life, but is frequently harder to accomplish than living with the pain. When we forgive, we let go of malice and vengeance toward the other person.  We let go of our obsession with thoughts of their offense and making them pay.  We do not excuse their action or release them from justice or the consequences of that action.

The past has no power over the present moment.

Eckhart Tolle

When we don’t forgive, we are imprisoned by our own feelings.  We will remain stuck in the past and become bitter in the future.  Forgiveness allows us to live in the here and now with a heart full of joy and hope for the future.

Forgiveness is about more than just letting go. It’s about healing wounds and wiping away scars. It’s about feeling better, physically and emotionally. It’s about living your life with purpose and truly moving forward.

Forgive the past, forgive yourself, forgive others, and love the present moment for what it’s worth.  There are plenty of beautiful things to love right now; you just have to want to see them.  Loving is never easy, especially when times are tough, yet it is easily the most powerful and positively enduring action possible.

Forgiveness is love in its most noble form.

Chapter 9, Page 12, Book 16

The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.

September 12th - wisdom

Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. To know is not to be wise. Many men know a great deal, and are all the greater fools for it. There is no fool so great a fool as a knowing fool. But to know how to use knowledge is to have wisdom.

Charles Spurgeon

We live in a world where we are constantly assailed by false beliefs and flawed values, but reading Proverbs equips us with wisdom to stand firm in our faith.

The word WISDOM means knowledge applied.

The first and foremost place to find wisdom, of course, is in the Scriptures. But don’t stop there. Learn from your own mistakes. I’ve found more wisdom in failure than I’d like to admit. My biggest failures have not occurred because of a lack of wisdom, but because I failed to practice wisdom. I knew better, but I forged ahead and did things my way.  Wisdom is one thing. Practicing it is another.

On the way to success, many people pursue money and power over wisdom. As Benjamin Franklin once wrote:

Who is wise? He that learns from everyone.

Who is powerful? He that governs his passions.

Who is rich? He that is content.

Who is that? Nobody.

A truly wise person would refuse to accept that conclusion.

Chapter 9, Page 11, Book 16

I will remember and never forget 9/11

Embedded in the memories of everyone who lived through it, this was the day four jet planes were hijacked and crashed into the New York World Trade Center and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, causing the deaths of 2,977 people. The fourth plane, United Airlines Flight 93,  was directed at Washington DC, but its passengers bravely attempted to take back control and it crashed into a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

The large majority of those lost after the attacks on the Twin Towers were working at or above the points of collision; thousands of people who had gone to work that morning like every other day, found themselves suddenly stranded at the top of a burning skyscraper. A number made the choice to jump from the flaming buildings rather than wait to be caught by the flames or for the building to collapse. No one could forget the terrifying and heartbreaking stories and images captured by the news footage of the day.

In the wake of the World Trade Center collisions, many brave men and women from the emergency services risked their lives to try to help rescue victims of the attacks, and of them 411 lost their own lives attempting to fight fires and rescue people.

I will remember and never forget.
