Chapter 8, Page 23, Book 13

A word spoken at the right time is like golden apples on a silver tray.

Proverbs 25:11

Of Morals and Morale….

Seldom is heard an encouraging word…

In order to raise someone's morale, we have to do one of two things:
1. We praise them
2. We encourage them

I believe that by giving encouragement to someone,  we are adding courage to that person. We are helping a person stand firmer and go farther. On the other hand to discourage a person is to take away a person’s courage.

So often it happens, that we open our mouths and insert our foot. We want to say the right thing , but as we start to speak it comes out all wrong. Even when we don’t really mean to say the wrong thing, our words will sometimes get all twisted around.

We never know when even a small gesture of encouragement might make a very significant difference.

I know that very often the quotes I read encourage me and I hope that at some point they offer encouragement to you too. I am very thankful that the  many beautiful written words, words in book and song and story, are still inspiring men and making the world fragrant with their beauty!

There is no effect more disproportionate to its cause than the happiness bestowed by a small compliment.

Robert Brault

Compliments are a powerful force for positive good for both the giver and receiver, most people are pretty stingy with them. It would be wonderful if we could change that and start lifting each other up more often with encouraging words.

God was just showing off when he created you.

Most of the time I don't think we are aware of the effect our words--especially encouraging ones or calming ones--have on others. But the recent news story about the school clerk whose calm and soothing words to a would-be murderer saved a school full of children! Your post reminded me of this.

Encouraging words are sometimes all we need for motivation.
