Chapter 9, Page 30, Book 12

If winter is slumber and spring is birth, and summer is life,
then autumn rounds out to be reflection.  It's a time of year
when the leaves are down and the harvest is in and the
perennials are gone.  Mother Earth just closed up the drapes
on another year and it's time to reflect on what's come before.

Let Me Be...

Let me be a little kinder,
Let me be a little blinder
To the faults about me;
Let me praise a little more,
 Let me be, when I am weary;
Just a little bit more cheery,
Let me serve a little better
Those that I am striving for.
Let me be a little braver
When temptation bids me waver,
Let me strive a little harder
To be all that I should be;
Let me be a little meeker
to the brother that is weaker;
Let me think more of my neighbor
and a little less of me.

This Day's Greatest Gift

We can't change the past…
But we can gather up
It's lessons and move on,
Stronger and wiser.

We can't control the future…
But we can send our dreams
Ahead of us
To help prepare the way.

We can live each moment…
Heart and soul,
And cherish this day's
Greatest gift…
The gift of now.

May peace with the past
And faith in the future,
Gently guide you through each
Precious moment of Today

Chapter 9, Page 24, Book 12

Happiness consists more in small conveniences of pleasures that occur every day, than in great pieces of good fortune that happen but seldom to a man in the course of his life.

Ben Franklin

By Author Unknown

You have heard of possibilities. But have you heard of availabilities? If possibilities describe that which could be, then availabilities’describe that which already is.

An old story tells of a tourist who paused for a rest in a small town in the mountains. He went over to an old man sitting on a bench in front of the general store and asked, Friend, can you tell me something this town is noted for?

Well, the old timer answered. I don’t rightly know ‘cept that it’s the starting point to the world.
Excuse me? said the newcomer.

Yep, the old man continued. You can start here and go anywhere you want!

Many people don’t believe that. They feel hopelessly trapped in their life. They do not believe they can go anywhere they want. Their options are limited to ‘availabilities.’ They consider what is available and discard their choices in discouragement.

Other people believe that they can start from where they are and go anywhere they want. Their options are limited only by their imaginations. They consider what is possible and pursue their choices with vigor.

Perhaps you are feeling stuck… not so much in a physical location, but in a situation. Or in your life! If so, maybe you have you been confusing availabilities and possibilities.

Chapter 9, Page 23, Book 12

Every day is an important day, and every second is a growth opportunity to develop character, to demonstrate love, or to depend on God.

Rick Warren

I think that the things we don't understand sometimes are the scariest. It's hard to deal with those things because we don't know how to process it or see it in a tangible form.

It's like the howling sounds of the wind on a dark and stormy night shrieking at us.

There are some things we've just got to let go of and give over to the Lord and our fears are one of those things.

Don't Fall Apart

Old times never come back and I suppose it's just as well.  What comes back is a new morning every day in the year, and that's better.

George E. Woodberry

We may not be thrilled that summer is over, seriously, how did that happen so fast, but that’s no reason to turn our backs on fall. Autumn is upon us, so why not embrace this crisp, cool season with open arms?

Autumn is full of leave-taking.

 Mary Webb

Last Week I threw out WORRYING,
It was getting old and in the way.
It kept me from being me,
I couldn't do things my way.
I threw out those inhibitions,
They were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Growth,
Got rid of my old dreams and doubts.

I threw out a book on MY PAST
(didn't have time to read it anyway).
Replaced it with New Goals,
Started reading it today.
I threw out childhood toys
(remember how I treasured them so)?
Got me a NEW PHILOSOPHY too,
Threw out the one from long ago.

Bought in some new books too,
Called I CAN, I WILL, and I MUST.
Threw out I might, I think and I ought.
WOW, You should've seen the dust.
I ran across an OLD FRIEND,
Haven't seen him in a while.
I believe his name is GOD,
Yes, I really like His style.

He helped me to do some cleaning
And added some thing's Himself.
Yes I placed them right on the shelf.
I picked up this special thing
And placed it at the front door.
I FOUND IT - its called PEACE.
Nothing gets me down anymore.

Yes, I've got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place.
For things like Worry and Trouble
There just isn't any place.
Its good to do a little house cleaning,
Get rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things brighter,
Maybe you should TRY IT YOURSELF.

Every blade in the field
Every leaf in the forest
lays down it's life

The miracle of autumn is the reminder that though the leaves may turn red, and then fall away, the tree remains. And in the springtime it will again bud and bloom and become full again.

Chapter 9, Page 11, Book 12

As the sun rises on 9/11/12, take a moment to remember the victims, their loved ones, and the tireless heroes of 9/11/01
There is no avoiding the memories and the passage of yet one more year since the 2001 terrorist attacks on the USA.  God has always been the refuge and strength of those who sought Him.  And so, we remember, honor, pay tribute – NEVER FORGET – and we  pray...

We pray that we may know that a broken heart has the tremendous opportunity to love.
We pray that we may be drum majors for peace, justice, hope, and peace.
We pray that people of all religions and countries will work harder for justice, love, respect, and peace.
We pray that we may love.
We pray that we may never lose our faith in that which is true, good and beautiful.
We pray that our faith may make us righteous and be a source of healing for us and the nation and the world.
Take a moment to remember those we lost and the people they left behind. Pray for the families and friends whose lives were ripped apart that day. Send silent blessings, wish them well, plant a flower, or whatever you choose. Just give them a moment.

FANTASTIC Friday! / Changes are coming...

I'm making some changes here here at my house today.  In case you don't know it I've been keeping up two blogs for a long long time now  and have decided it's time to reduce it down to one.  Except for a quote to start the day, I'll no longer be posting here.

I'll be found at ON THE BRIGHT SIDE ( ) from now on.  I hope that you'll follow me there.  I've tried without much success to keep up with both of them but I'm not doing very well at this point,  so this blog will no longer be updated except for a quote each day.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE started out as a newsletter that I send out to my family and friends each day and I decided that I'd keep the archives of them on a blog so I could look back and find a recipe or news of note when I wanted to.  It's a combination of what is going on at home along with quotes, recipes, and trivia.

So this Friday I'm hoping you'll join me ON THE BRIGHT SIDE !

Have a fantastic Friday everyone!

Every Leaf Speaks Bliss To Me,
Fluttering From The Autumn Tree
Emily Bronte

THANKFUL Thursday!

I love having a specific day to say thanks.  It helps me remember to think about what I have. And that makes me happy.
What I'm thankful for the most, is the gift of today, and the joy that I find in it.

I recently read an article that said, life is like a string of colorful beads. The days of my life follow one after another. Every bead, every day, contributes to the whole.
As I reflect on the days of my life, some may seem brighter or more colorful than others; some may appear cracked or chipped, yet each day is precious. I have been strengthened by challenge, broken open in crisis, and sustained through it all.  I have been humbled by my errors and encouraged by my successes. I’ve been blessed by friends and family as we’ve lived through times of joy and sorrow. For every loss I’ve grieved, I have been blessed by a time of love.
I have no regrets. I am thankful my life!
Life is a precious thing and the moments go by so fast.  I'm thankful for today.

Hope your Thursday is one that you are THANKFUL for too.

Chapter 9, Page 5, Book 12

There is a story about a young man who was applying for a job. As a part of the application process, the young man had to take an aptitude test. He arrived at the appointed time, was given instructions about the test, and then was ushered into the testing room.

Immediately, though, the young man became enamored with the utensils at his disposal: he straightened the paper on the desk, sharpened his pencils and shined his chair. In fact, he became so engrossed in the material around him he never got around to taking the test! When time was up and the tests were collected, he had nothing to show for his efforts but a neat desk, finely sharpened pencils and an immaculate chair. Needless to say, he didn't get the job.
Working smart is not about how hard you work, but how effectively, how efficiently. Many people who spend long hours working are not necessarily more dedicated than their peers who are done early. Those who burn the midnight oil oftentimes have not learned how to use their time wisely.

WONDERFUL Wednesday / Wonderful time.

Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish.

John Quincy Adams

Time effects us all and our effectiveness is a matter of choice.  We can choose to do what we want to do or waste it worrying about what we should do.

I've got some very busy days ahead with lots to do in a short time.  So I thought it'd be appropriate to tell about using our time wisely.

I know that blogging might not be an effective way to use time wisely to some but for me it often puts things in perspective and with that knowledge I do get a lot more done.

Effectiveness is doing the things that get you closer to your goals. Efficiency is performing a given tast (whether important or not) in the most economical manner possible. Being efficient without regard to effectiveness is the default mode of the universe.

Timothy Ferris

With fall just ahead and the camping season coming to a close I'm trying to get all my personal belongings out of the camper this week.  I'm making more than one trip back and forth.  Times like this make me wish I had a large utility vehicle, but I don't

We immediately become more effective when we decide to change ourselves rather than asking things to change for us.

Stephen Covey

I am trying to get this done so that when  my camper sells, I can leave it in the best possible condition for someone else and go home knowing that I did a good job and won't have to redo anything.

Knowing that my house is already full to overflowing with everything here right now, I will also have to find an effective way to store what I'm bringing home too.

People, like nails, lose their effectiveness when they lose direction and begin to bend.

  Walter Savage Landor

It'll be another busy day here at my house, but I'm persevering and trying not to loose my focus so I can get this task at hand done.  What ever you might be up to today, I hope you'll keep focused and makes some positive strides to your life

Efficiency is doing better what is already being done.  Effectiveness is deciding what to do better.

Peter F. Drucker

I hope you all have a WONDERFUL Wednesday everyone!

Chapter 9, Page 4, Book 12

You who dwell in the shadow of His wings, who abide in His shadow for life, say to the Lord:
My refuge, my God in whom I trust!

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

The snare of the fowler will never capture you,and famine will bring you no fear:under
His wings your refuge,His faithfulness your shield.

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

You need not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day; though thousands fall about you,
near you it shall not come.

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, make you to shine like the sun,
and hold you in the palm of His hand.

For to His angels He's given a command to guard you in all of your ways'upon their hands they will bear you up,
lest you dash your foot against a stone.

And He will raise you up on eagles' wings, bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of His hand.

TERRIFIC 2'S Tuesday/  A hymn to start the week and my thoughts

I hope you all had a wonderful 3 day Labor Day weekend.  I've been starting each week with a hymn and so as today is our start to the work week, I thought I'd put it on my Tuesday post.

Did you know that an eagle knows when a storm is approaching long before it breaks? The eagle will fly to some high spot and wait for the winds to come.  When the storm hits, it sets its wings so that the wind will pick it up and lift it above the storm. While the storm rages below, the eagle is soaring above it. The eagle does not escape the storm. It simply uses the storm to lift it higher. It rises on the winds that bring the storm.

When the storms of life come upon us, and all of us will experience them, we can rise above them by setting our minds and our belief toward God. The storms do not have to overcome us. We can allow God's power to lift us above them. God enables us to ride the winds of the storm that bring sickness, tragedy, failure and disappointment in our lives. We can soar above the storm.

Remember, it is not the burdens of life that weigh us down, it is how we handle them.
What a great thought to start out a new week!

Have a TERRIFIC Tuesday everyone.
