Chapter 12, Page 19, Book 08

THE SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS

I enter the home of poverty,
causing pale-faced children to open their
eyes wide in pleased wonder.
I cause the miser's clutched hand to relax,
and thus paint a bright spot on his soul.
I cause the aged to renew their youth
and to laugh in the glad old way.
I keep romance alive in the heart of childhood,
and brighten sleep with dreams woven of magic.
I cause eager feet to climb dark stairways
with filled baskets, leaving behind hearts
amazed at the goodness of the world.
I cause the prodigal to pause a moment
on his wild,wasteful way,
and send to anxious love some little token
that releases glad tears -tears
which wash away the hard lines of sorrow.
I enter dark prison cells,
reminding scarred manhood of what might have been,
and pointing forward to good days yet to come.
I come softly into the still, white home of pain,
and lips that are too weak to speak
just tremble in silent, eloquent gratitude.
In a thousand ways I
cause the weary world to look up
into the face of God
and for a little moment forget the things
that are small and wretched.
I am the Christmas Spirit.

GOOD MORNING
Each of us brings to this time of year the story of Christmases past and we hold to that story, its joy or its pain as we recreate and relive this holiday. Approaching Dec. 25th each year, we tend to examine our beliefs, our expectations and our disappointments. Each Christmas we are given the gift of new consciousness with each rebirthing of the Christ spirit within.

Christmas is a time of Giving and sharing. It used to matter little whether you were rich or poor. Christmas time was for remembering the Lord and giving. Sharing other's pains and helping others was the spirit.

The Season of Love isn't about "things" or something to be endured. There's a Spirit in the air and you can have it all year through

The joy, love and the very essence of Christmas is in my heart and in my soul. I don't need all the reminders of what Christmas means to me. I carry it with me every day in everything I do. I agree with those that say we should have Christmas in our hearts everyday of the year.

So, today I’m thinking about making a Christmas Prayer Chain. You remember making those red and green chains when you were a kid, don't you? I always loved them! I’ll put my friends and loved ones names on the slips of paper, then loop them together to hang around my house. In a way you’ll all be celebrating Christmas with me too.

Maybe you’ll want to make one too!

The Spirit of Christmas
Author unknown

I have a list of people I know

All written in a book

And every year at Christmastime

I go and take a look

And that is when I realize

That those names are a part

Not of the book they're written in

But of my very heart

For each name stands for someone

Who has crossed my path some time

And in that meeting they've become

A treasured friend of mine

And once you've met some people

The years can not erase

The memory of a pleasant word

Or a friendly face

So when I send a Christmas card

That is addressed to you

It's because you're on that list

Of folk I'm indebted to

And you are one of many folk who

In times past I've met

And happen to be one of those

I don't want to forget

And whether I have known you for

Many years or few

In some way you have a part in

Shaping things I do

This, the spirit of Christmas, that

Forever and ever endures

May it leave it richest blessing

In the hearts of you and yours

‘On Ya’-ma

Until one feels the spirit of Christmas, there is no Christmas. All else is outward display--so much tinsel and decorations. For it isn't the holly, it isn't the snow. It isn't the tree not the firelight's glow. It's the warmth that comes to the hearts of men when the Christmas spirit returns again.
