Chapter 12, Page 16, Book 08

And the Grinch,
with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow,
stood puzzling and puzzling,
how could it be so?
It came without ribbons.
It came without tags.
It came without packages, boxes or bags.
And he puzzled and puzzled 'till his puzzler was sore.
Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn't before:
What if Christmas, he thought,
doesn't come from a store?
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more?
Dr. Seuss

We are back to being very cold once more and are promised some new snow. Sunday had brought rain to our area and washed all the old stuff away. The weather cannot seem to make up its mind. At this point I’m really thankful that we have had no huge amounts of snow and am thankful every time I drive to work that roads are clear and not icy.

Work is slowing down right now and we have a few of our men laid off. As we are a small company that’s work is mostly done outdoors, this is not unusual for us at all. The end of the year is almost here so I’ll have work to do in the office. There are always end of the quarter reports to do and purging the files of old folders and such to make room for a new year. Those purged files go into the archives and then I get to purge the archives. Some things you only keep for 7 years and those are the files that will have to be shredded and put in the rubbish.

With Christmas almost here my thoughts are turning to the New Year. It was a fast year and I had a lot to be thankful for. I thoroughly enjoyed my summer camping and my family had a good time at our Family Reunion too. I can count many blessings for sure. Although I’m still in shock and numb over the death of my grandson, I do try each day to look on the ‘Bright Side’.

Christmas for us this year will have more meaning than ever before…

The gift of life is so precious.

We worry about what we can buy for friends, for loved ones - everyone seems so hard to shop for. Isn't it strange, when you come to think of it, that we just can't think of anything that our friends and loved ones need!

Perhaps we look in the wrong place. There may be nothing in the store that we need, but how about a token of love - -

love itself

and friendship

and fellowship

and thoughtfulness

and smiles

and a prayer

These things are not for sale - - but they are the things that people need. Everyone needs them, and those who receive them this Christmas or at any time will be blessed indeed

At least you made lots of good memories with your grandson, treasures to store up in your mind. I have a feeling all your Christmases and Thanksgivings will have a bitter-sweet edge to them from now on.

I do agree with you; this year has gone by so fast; I'm sorry it was a sad one for you and your family; I know the Lord is with you all through these hard sad days

Sorry I am a little behind in my reading, I liked the fact that you stressed just being a friend and loving your friends instead of trying to buy a gift for them. I tend to wrack my brain looking for the perfect gift when I already try to love and fellowship and pray for them. Enjoy your day.
