It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.

Do you know that at military funerals, the 21-gun salute stands for
the sum of the numbers in the year 1776?
Have you ever noticed the honor guard pays meticulous attention to
correctly folding the American flag 13 times? You probably thought
it was to symbolize the original 13 colonies, but we learn something
new every day!

The 1st fold of our flag is a symbol of life.

The 2nd fold is a symbol of our belief in eternal life.

The 3rd fold is made in honor and remembrance of the veterans
departing our ranks who gave a portion of their lives for the defense
of our country to attain peace throughout the world.

The 4th fold represents our weaker nature, for as American citizens
trusting in God, it is to Him we turn in times of peace as well as in
time of war for His divine guidance.

The 5th fold is a tribute to our country, for in the words of Stephen
Decatur, "Our Country, in dealing with other countries, may she
always be right; but it is still our country, right or wrong.

The 6th fold is for where our hearts lie. It is with our heart that We
pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States Of America, and the
Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with
Liberty and Justice for all.

The 7th fold is a tribute to our Armed Forces, for it is through the Armed
Forces that we protect our country and our flag against all her enemies,
whether they be found within or without the boundaries of our republic.

The 8th fold is a tribute to the one who entered into the valley of the
shadow of death, that we might see the light of day.

The 9th fold is a tribute to womanhood, and Mothers. For it has been
through their faith, their love, loyalty and devotion that the character of
the men and women who have made this country great has been molded.

The 10th fold is a tribute to the father, for he, too, has given his sons
and daughters for the defense of our country since they were first born.

The 11th fold represents the lower portion of the seal of King David and
King Solomon and glorifies in the Hebrews eyes, the God of Abraham,
Isaac and Jacob.

The 12th fold represents an emblem of eternity and glorifies, in the
Christians eyes, God the Father, the Son and Holy Spirit.

The 13th fold, or when the flag is completely folded, the stars are
uppermost reminding us of our nations motto, "In God We Trust."

After the flag is completely folded and tucked in, it takes on the
appearance of a cocked hat, ever reminding us of the soldiers who
served under General George Washington, and the Sailors and Marines
who served under Captain John Paul Jones, who were followed by
their comrades and shipmates in the Armed Forces of the United States,
preserving for us the rights, privileges and freedoms we enjoy today.

There are some traditions and ways of doing things that have deep
meaning. In the future, you will see flags folded and now you will know

Ephesians 4:4-5

There is one body and one Spirit – just as you were called to one hope when you were called – one Lord , one faith , one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all

Now we are the body of Christ and we are each a part of it.

In the church God appointed apostles, prophets, teachers , workers of miracles and those having gifts of healing, those able to help others, those with gifts of administration and those speaking in different kinds of tongues. When all those gifts are put together we get something very special

Rather than expending energy on something we have no control over, rather than disliking somebody because he or she can do something that we can’t do, He wants us to unite our talents as one.

BEE the best that you can

Be aware of who you are
Eliminate the negatives from your mind
Expect the best from yourself and other people

God has given us everything it takes to overcome obstacles . Through love and the Spirit and with God’s help we can live with one heart. We can create unity wherever we go – in ourselves , in our families , and in the church.

The next and final chapter will be on Does God Deserve our Trust

May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves.

Romans 15:5

God wants us to find unity within the Body of Christ. To do this we must first have unity with ourselves and with our family.

Sometimes we find that in the first six to eight seconds of meeting someone, we decide if we’re going to let that person into our life or not.

We quickly evaluate things like eye contact, facial expression, how we shake hands with each other or their position in life.

No matter how good we think we are we have some prejudices, biases, some preconditioning that we have to shed

We need to look ‘spirit’ to ‘spirit’--To look beyond the flesh and mess on the surface. We need three things in order to do this.
Love, the Spirit, and God. These three things will help us to find oneness in the Body of Christ.

Love One Another

John 13:34-35

A new command I give you. Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another

It’s like He’s saying love one time for the Father, love two times for the Son, love three times for the Holy Spirit.

Unity in the Body of Christ, unitiy in your own spirit, and unity in your home can only be experienced through perfect, indescribable, unconditional love of God.

There is no one not worthy of God’s love. Everyone can be and is loved by God

Before the foundation of the world we were already on God’s mind. Before anything we were on God’s mind.

In Psalm 139:13-16 we are told that we are more spirit than we are flesh.

For you created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother’s womb
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made,
Your works are wonderful
I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
When I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body
All the days ordained for me
Were written in your book
Before one of them came to be

With in our flesh, our spirit guards and rules. When we meet
people spirit to spirit, we know that God has made them. All fearfully and wonderfully made by God.

God is love and His love is unconditional. We were made in His image and filled with His spirit.

Having love in you as God loves is what unity is all about.

Next time we’ll take a look at several things that will bring about that unity.

The Master Gardener

First, he selects the land.
Before a gardener beings to plant he must select a location. God selected you and me. He calls us to be one of His own.

Second, a gardener prepares the soil.
Rocks and weeds must be removed. God pulls the weeds from our hearts. Preparation is critically important so the seed that is sown will have a chance to grow

Next comes the planting.

He plants His Word in our life, just as a gardener plants seeds. He relates to us through His Word and prayers.

The Fourth thing God does is waters and waits.
You have to have adequate water as well as fertilizer. Then you must be patiently. Gods timing is much different than ours, but we have to remind ourselves, it is perfect.

Finally when all is completed a bountiful harvest can be enjoyed.

1 Peter 5:6

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all you anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

Women deserve to be treated with kindness and respect, but all the relationships in the world cannot fulfill all the desires we may have to be treated with compassion and tenderness. We should look to God first as an answer to our longing. He cares for us and we can have a tender relationship with Him that surpasses all others.

Next we take a look at the Spirit of Unity

For those who are lucky to still be blessed with
your Mom this is beautiful. For those who aren't,
this is even more beautiful.

The young mother set her foot on the path of life.
"Is this the long way?" she asked.
And the guide said "Yes, and the way is hard. And
you will be old before you reach the end of it. But
the end will be better than the beginning."

But the young mother was happy, and she would not
believe that anything could be better than these

So she played with her children, she fed them and
bathed them, and taught them how to tie their shoes
and ride a bike and reminded them to feed the dog,
and do their homework and brush their teeth. The sun
shone on them, and the young mother cried "Nothing
will ever be lovelier than this."

Then the nights came, and the storms, and the path
was sometimes dark, and the children shook with fear
and cold, and the mother drew them close and covered
them with her arms, and the children said, "Mother,
we are not afraid, for you are near, and no harm can

And the morning came, and there was a hill ahead, and
the children climbed and grew weary, and the mother
was weary. But at all times she said to the children,
"A little patience and we are there."

So the children climbed, and as they climbed they
learned to weather the storms. And with this, she gave
them strength to face the world. Year after year, she
showed them compassion, understanding, hope, but most
of all....unconditional love.

And when they reached the top they said, "Mother, we
would not have done it without you."

The days went on, and the weeks and the months and the
years, and the mother grew old and she became little
and bent. But her children were tall and strong, and
walked with courage.

And the mother, when she lay down at night,
looked up at the stars and said,
"This is a better day than the last, for my children have
learned so much and are now passing these traits on
to their children."

And when the way became rough for her, they lifted her,
and gave her their strength, just as she had given them

One day they came to a hill, and beyond the hill, they
could see a shining road and golden gates flung wide.
And mother said: "I have reached the end of my journey.
And now I know the end is better than the beginning,
for my children can walk with dignity and pride, with
their heads held high, and so can their children after

And the children said, " You will always walk with us,
Mother, even when you have gone through the gates."
And they stood and watched her as she went on alone,
and the gates closed after her. And they said: "We
cannot see her, but she is with us still.

A Mother like ours is more than a memory.
She is a living presence."

No possession is more valuable than the fact that you can celebrate Mother's Day.

If you were loved, you learned how to love. If you were secure, you learned how to trust.

If you were taught about God, you learned how to have faith.

My prayer for you is that you will never take your blessedness for
granted, that you will never stop being thankful, and that you will
pass this most precious of blessings on to your family and friends

The Stages of Life

In all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28

King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiates
There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven.

Our lives consist of a wide range of activities. Each stage of life we need to keep our focus on God.

We experience good times and bad, laughter and tears, poverty and wealth, sickness and health. Each stage brings different experiences and challenges. We need to be flexible and adjust to whatever that stage brings.

It is important that we adjust in order to successfully move from one stage to another.

Here are 6 questions to ask yourself that will really help you to cope

1. Am I experiencing God’s love at this stage of life
2. How am I loving God
3. What is my purpose for living
4. Who is in my grandstand
5. Am I in control of my actions and attitude
6. What lasting impression am I leaving

Sometimes when we are having difficulties we find ourselves blaming God.
Or we wonder if we are disappointing God with our actions

Can God really love me?

Yes, He really does!

Where ever we are, God is here.

A.W. Tozer

He is here this very moment. Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Psalm 44:21
God…knows the secrets of the heart

Strive to focus on Jesus, not on the circumstances or people causing our difficulty.

In Philippians 4:6 we are told not to worry about anything, but instead to pray about everything and tell God our needs. We can pray at anytime, in any place.

We women can experience a stage where we become restless and overloaded
So we must regularly ask God ‘ What do you want me to do at this stage of my life.

At this point all we can do is wait and listen. In order to hear God we have to spend time with the Scriptures. He even speaks through unlikely people sometimes.

We just have to wait and listen.

The Lord will show you the way as you trust Him with all your heart.

It is extremely important to be flexible and open to change. If you are not flexible you are going to break.

Suddenly thing happen…the car breaks down, the washing machine breaks, there is an accident or something unexpected changes your plans. In spite of these temporary set backs, remain faithful to the Lord and tell yourself ‘This too shall pass’

The Lord wants us to be faithful in every stage of life.

As we journey along in life we can also develop a satisfied heart.and life will become a peaceful adventure rather than a disappointment

There are many treasured moments in life, but they don’t remain. The become only memories of peaceful times.. But if we are satisfied with our Lord we have His peace anytime.

Build up your attitude by spending time with the Word of God. Memorizing verses or placing them on cards where you see them helps to instill good thoughts. Don’t depend on others to keep your spirit up.

The impression we leave with others should be one of a Christlike manner.
Depend on Lord to uphold you and guide you and when you do, others will see an extraordinary woman of God.

Love Him with all your heart and be faithful.

In the next chapter we'll take a look at how Jesus cared for women.

Self-Concept (Who Are We?)

The LORD says…I have summoned you by name, you are mine

Do you know who you are?

We are often shaped by experiences in our lives. Often we think we are less worthy than others. We build up a defense system and try to do what we think others want us to do. We perform to earn approval from others.

Of course this isn’t the way it should be. We have the potential for an ideal personality structure, It is a life long process.

Consider the deep longings of your heart.

God gave you these desires of your heart in order to draw you to Him. We were created to be in an eternally secure love relationship with God

That longing to belong is something we should respect and allow it to draw us closer to God

Early in our lives we develop a defense system to protect our wounded souls.

There are seven major areas in a Woman’s life

1. The spiritual area

We can feel alienated from God if we feel He is angry or disappointed in us
God’s Word says that He loves us He is our loving Father. He wants to love and protect us. As a result we should have a sense of being cherished.

Ephesians 3:17 captures the key

And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you turn to him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.

We must accept the freedom of God’s unconditional love in order to change our lives.

2. The personal area

If we are spiritually inadequate it spills over into other areas of our lives

There is a difference between knowing God loves the world and experiencing the reality that He loves YOU.

3. The Relational Area

Our relationships with others are affected by our longing for acceptance.

If we have a love relationship with God it will have a profound healing effect on every part of your personality. God takes the center stage in our lives and we can face the reality of relationships with others.

All human relationships end. Sometimes they fail to satisfy. We become angry and disappointed. Human beings cannot supply what God can.

We will be fulfilled because all fullness comes from God. His mighty power will work within us.. We are the beloved children of our Abba God.

4. The Rational Area.

We develop distorted ideas in our belief system if we have no way to discern the truth

5. The emotional area

If we are on the defensive , we are sad, depressed and anxious

6. The Volitional Area

We make choices to gain and maintain acceptance rather than disappoint someone.

7. The Behavioral Area

Our outward expression of life can either be focused on others or on God. If our well being is connected to how others perceive us rather than what God sees.

How can we experience this deep fulfillment and help others to do the same?

If we sink our roots deeply in God’s love our human relationships can thrive. We develop realistic expectations and don’t expect them to meet all our longings.

If we turn to God first we don’t struggle as much with the sense of loneliness.
As we spend time with God, we begin to change. Day by day we find our self – concepts changed by Him.

What a moving lesson. After reading this I have realized more and more the importance of a closer walk with God.

Our Role in Life

We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do

Ephesians 2:10

What is a woman’s role? Where is our place?

The answer is found in the Scriptures

Women were the first to appear at the foot of the Cross and the last to leave

All through the Bible women were valid witnesses.

When Jesus invited the Samaritan to worship, He instructed her about how to worship. When a woman touched the hem of His garment (Luke 8:40-48O he hailed her as an example of faith. Martha and Mary were taught a great lesson by Jesus.

Many such parables in the New Testament incorporate women as examples.

In the parable of the Lost Coin, Jesus uses the woman as an analogy to Himself. Just as she searched for a lost coin , God seaks the lost.

In John 4 Jesus meets the woman at the well. Jesus uses her as a witness and she brings her whole town to Him.

Jesus offered her the living water – Himself – something that she desperately needed.

This woman represents every woman.

God’s plan for our lives is to is to come along side those that don’t know Him .

How do we help the lost?

Jesus says ‘I have the words of Eternal Life. Listen to Me and you will live.’

We’ve got to do our homework. Jesus focused on the Samaritan woman’s beliefs and background. He used this information to form a bridge. To reach women we have to understand their culture., just as He did.

Stand firm. Let nothing move you . Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

Psalm 63:5

My soul will be satisfied as with the richest of foods

Our relationship with God is like that. We are never meant to go on Spiritual diets. This is one area where we can be lavish.

God made our souls to long for Him and we are not fully satisfied without Him in our lives.

We sometimes make the mistake of NOT letting Him fill our lives on a daily basis.

God wans us to have a relationship with Him all our lives. When our heart is not fully given to Christ, we can’t trust what we feel or what our heart tells us

A deluded heart misleads him; he cannot save himself or say’Is not this thing in my right hand a lie?
Isaiah 44:20

To crave something outside of God and never feel like we have enough is a deluded heart misleading us. If it is not from God, it will betray you.

Food That Satisfies

The Word of God is health and life for souls and to the marrow of our bones. His Word is alive and powerful.

Psalm 90:14

Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days

This is satisfaction !

Psalm 62 tells us we can pour out our hear to God. He is a refuge

If we pour out our hearts to Him, we make room to allow Him to take over.

His love is the only love that never fails. His love is unconditional. If we approach Him and ask him to help he will not only fill our cup but He will overflow it.

Life is hard, we may get some help during the day from family or friends, but our message from God each day is unchanging -- He loves us !

Tomorrow we’ll take a look at a Woman’s role today.

Starting A New Book - A Woman and Her God

I have a new book to read called A Woman and Her God by Beth Moore, Jill Briscoe, Sandra D. Wilson, Katheleen Hart, David Hager, Thema Wells and Beverly LaHaye.

I thought I'd share some thoughts with you all as I go through the book.

On the back cover it says:

Learn the secret to what makes Life work

Discover how God really views you

Live out God’s prupose at every stage of life

Remove your prejudices and enjoy unity with others

Get outside your ‘God-box’ and Trust HIM no matter what.

Well those are pretty profound words and now you can see why I got the book!

Mary stood outside the tomb crying…She turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not realize that it was Jesus…

Jesus said to her ‘Mary’

She turned toward him and cried out in Aramic, ‘Rabbone!’ (which means Teacher)

Jesus said ‘Do not hold on to me for I have not yet returned to the Father. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, I am returning to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.”

John 20:11,14,16-17

With just one word Jesus changed everything for Mary. He said her name.

Mary was filled with Joy because Jesus was alive!

Mary knew that Jesus cared deeply for her

God knows each of us by name. Just as Jesus knew Mary by name. God loves you right now, no matter what you feel or look like. He loves you just as you are.

You are an extraordinary woman right now!

To act justly and to love mercy
And to walk humbly with your God

Micah 6:8

Discovery of what makes life work

Deuteronomy 7:7-8

The Lord did not set His affection on you and choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you.

Our God is the same yesterday , today and tomorrow. God created us and set his affections on us. In return, He asks us to set our affections upon Him.

When we seek to glorify God above all else, He will carry us through any hardship.

He wants us to come to the point that we can say

You are my life
—we were meant to be utterly devoted to Him

Tomorrow we’ll take a look at SEEKING SATISFACTION
