R and R Sunday/ Eating Humble Pie

To eat humble pie means to act submissively and apologetically, especially in admitting an error. That is what I'm doing today. You know I'm always reminding you that it is very important for us all to get some rest and relaxation on Sunday. It is like a reward for all the hard work you've done all week and refreshes you for the week ahead.

But there is much much more to Sunday rest and relaxation than meets the eye.

That is where my humble pie comes into being. Sunday is more than a day of physical and mental relaxation it is even more than a day on which we worship. The Sabbath / Sunday is God's seventh day, not ours. God took six days to create everything that goes to make up our planet. Then He set aside the seventh day as His day of rest. We made no contribution to creation, we only received it as a gift from God. From Sunday to Sunday my faith is renewed.

The JOY of Sunday is one of the greatest ways we can wish each other Sunday rest. Daily Concerns and tasks can fin their proper perspective: the material things about which we worry give way to spiritual values. It's the day on which man is at peace with God, with himself and with others. Sunday become a moment when we can look upon the wonders of nature as we celebrate the Lord's day.

Sunday is the day of joy and rest precisely because it is the Lord's Day.

SUPER SATURDAY/ SUPER POWERS

Believe it or not we all do possess some super powers of our own. Some of us are super cooks, others are super moms, some are super wives.

With the Super Bowl coming up we'll all be seeing some super stars. Those with athletic powers that outshine many others.

My thought is that we all are super stars each one of us with our own unique super power.

We may not be able to pull a lamp out of a carpet bag like the magical Mary Poppins but we can all add a touch of magic to each and every day.

Making each ordinary day extra ordinary is a SUPER way to live life.

We are all super extraordinary people !

FANTASTIC FRIDAY! FANTASTIC PROMISES

Winter is about half way though with us and here at my house I've been able to endure it quite well so far. Sinclair Lewis said that Winter is not a season it is an occupation. While I do things differently in the winter and at a different pace, I do agree that winter is an occupation. I might think there is so little to do, but no, that is not the case at all. Ever since Thanksgiving, which I like to think of as the beginning of the winter season, I've been very busy. There haven't been very many days at all with little to do.

Someone asked me recently how I spend my days. I know a lot of you think that my days are probably less than to be desired. Staying home, not going to work and being by myself as I am. But let me tell you there is truly never a dull moment. I seem to keep at doing something all the time. It may be in baby steps with lots of breaks in between, but still busy busy.

I do a lot of things that I like to do such as reading, knitting, painting and of course blogging. I also do the usual everyday house work and cooking then clean up that everyone does.

This season of promise brings with it cleaning up the messes I didn't get to in the summer time too. When it is nice out, I want to be outdoors working in the yard, sitting on my patio or spending time at the camper.

I think the promise is that if you persevere these dark dreary days your reward will come with springtime.

Sometimes life can seem like winter. Long cold stretches of time with very little to get excited about. The days seem dark and all too brief. We know these times are seasonal and things will improve but when? How? And then suddenly a patch of joyous green shoots out of an all but dead branch and hope springs eternal.

I hope your Friday is a FANTASTIC one!

THANKFUL THURSDAY!

Being thankful is a blessing in its self. It focuses my mind and is very often an attitude adjustment. To begin each day with a grateful heart is the best way I know to assure myself of a good day.

This past week was a busy one at my house. I knew in advance that I had company coming in. So I am very thankful that I had the strength to get it all done. As each year passes I find I have more time on my hands, but less strength do many of the things that used to come so easily.

I am very thankful for all the time I have as I need those extra moments.

I'm very thankful that I have a family that enjoys being together and that they love sharing what they do and schedule time to be together. Too often people let their to do lists come before family and thankfully mine make time for quality family times together.

I'm thankful for the blessings of a mild January. Our weather here continues to be a roller coaster with high temps in the 40's and even 50's now and then, while plummeting down into the single digits on other days. I say it is mild here because too often it gets cold and stays that way and having days with a bit of reprieve are just wonderful.

As always I continue to be thankful for my basics of home, food and clothing but more than anything I'm thankful to be able to live each day to the fullest and enjoy the blessings that are so abundant in my life. Most days my heart is near bursting at the seams!

I hope your heart is one full of thanks today too.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY/ WONDERFUL WORDS

Did you know that during the celebration of the Chinese New Year, it is customary to use certain words in print and conversation. One word is often used by itself. It is the word full, meaning abundance of and is used to wish someone material prosperity for the year ahead.

I've seen many using One Word to describe their hopes or wishes for the new year on their blogs.

One word can make such a difference in our lives. We really have to be careful in just what words we choose. One word can change everything.

When I think about it, I've often say YES, when I should have said NO. And there have been many times when I've said NO that I should have said YES.

Words can inspire us and change us. A negative word pushes us down and a positive word lifts us up.

We all have had tough words to say and we also have had soft ones repeated to us again and again.

Sweet words can light up a day like a ray of sunshine. Kind words make us feel warm and cozy. Horrible words are best not remembered.

If you could describe your life in one word, what would it be? Wonderful, valuable, happy, sad, ordinary, fantastic?

What would we do without words.

TERRIFIC 2'S TUESDAY / DO'S AND DON'TS

Do:

Begin each day with a promise to respect others

Sit down and talk quietly

Listen carefully to what others say

Look for things to appreciate in others

Give praise out loud for the good you see in others

Tell others they are good, good enough, and lovable

Tell others they are worthwhile and important to you

Speak in a quiet voice even when you disagree

The simple things we do or don't do in our lives everyday can make a HUGE difference in our lives and the lives of others. There are times when we don't always feel like doing things and don't take the time to do the right thing or even think about it as being the wrong thing.

It's so easy to say or do something that makes another feel bad and then we have REGRETS.

I DO try live my life without any regrets for my actions, but I'm human and it happens sometimes before I even realize what I've done.

Don't ever be afraid of admitting to defeat, it can only make you stronger in the long run. Being aware of what you DO and DON'T do helps others as much as it helps you!

MERRY MONDAY!

As you all know I have a very hard time with winter. I don't like the cold and I don't like the dreary short days. But on THE BRIGHT SIDE of things, this winter has been much milder than the past few have been. I don't know if this is the calm before the storm or not, but so far the snow we have had has been much less than last year and the cold we've had has been short lived as our weather keeps rebounding giving us some days above freezing that melts all the snow we've had.

I've had some very quiet days which have enabled me to do many things I wouldn't have been able to do otherwise. I've been sorting and tossing some things away around here, I've been able to sit quietly and pray along with my Scripture readings each day. I've also been blessed by some family gatherings too. We were able to get together for a New Years dinner even though it was a week late. And my youngest son and his family came in for a visit with me this past weekend. It was his birthday and surprisingly he wanted to spend some time with me to celebrate. I did some cooking and baking for that and I do love to feed my family. My two children and their families that live here in town also came over to share in the celebration. Cooking is a whole lot more fun when there is more than just me here.

Next weekend will be another time of family celebration and I'll be able to once again be with quite a few of my family as we celebrate another January birthday and one for February too. We'll all be doing the Stroll for Epilepsy which is a fund raiser to help those with this disease. One of my darling grand daughters is afflicted by this disabling disease and as many of us as possible try to support her by participating in the stroll. All that will be weather dependent as it does involve some traveling so I'm praying that it will be one of those weekends where the weather treats us kindly.

So today I really am thinking that JOY is everywhere. It's a good thing to hang onto as I know winter is not quite halfway through with us yet.

There is a story about a beautiful tree that was tall, graceful and mature. Everyone who saw it could only admire it. During the spring it would burst into life, in the summer its leaves were a sight to behold, in the autumn it shone brighter than gold and in winter it stood solid and firm withstanding the cold and wind. One day its roots burst into conversation: Although no one sees us we give you strength to be as tall as you are. Although we seem barren and hidden, we pull up water and nutrients. You as a tree are only as good as your roots.

At this the soil interrupted: My dear tree and dear roots, do you not realize that it is the soil which is so often taken for granted and the least praised, which gives you all you have and makes you what you are. Without me, you would not exist. I give you nourishment, security and strength. I am the one who holds you firm. Without me the soil you are nothing.

And so the story goes on to say that all three of them argued it out. Eventually all of them realized that to find the balance, all three of them had to work together with each one as important as the next.

The same can be said of life. Are we sometimes like the tree forgetting about the soil and roots? Do we sometimes feel off balance, without depth or meaning? Or do we strive for balance drawing strength and nourishment from what we believe in, from our family and friends, from love filled moments, from accepting each day as God's precious gift to us, from enjoying the simple moments and treasuring the good news to be found in our daily lives?

This thought for today was found while reading my daily devotionals this week.

SUPER SATURDAY/ WE ARE WHAT WE DO

Our lives are a mirror image of the choices we make. We are what we do. We are not what we think, or what we feel, or what we say, we are what we do. Actions do indeed speak louder than words. If you are unhappy with a particular part of your life, take a strong look at what you are doing to be happier.

For all of us the new year brings with it an opportunity to reflect on new choices and reaffirm established choices. That may be done in significant and momentous instances, but will also, and perhaps mostly, be done in the routine of daily living.

Where we are and whom we are at this very moment in life is based on the decisions we have made. Our physical health is largely the reflection of our decisions. Our finances are what they are because of our decisions. Where we work and what we earn is the outcome of our decisions. The state of our relationships is the result of our decisions. Everything we have or don’t have is a reflection of our decisions.

Things can go wrong in life. Yes, there are issues and problems to solve. But we have a choice. We can choose to become pessimistic and not see the value in what we experience, or we can choose to laugh as an admission to the fact we are not perfect and life can get the best of us at times. What a relief to know that no matter how bad things may look, a smile or a good laugh can begin to make the circumstances feel better.

Fantastic Friday!

Life can hand us some difficult situations which can cause us to feel torn about making a decision that is the right one, versus the wrong one. Sometimes when you are faced with a difficult situation, the right answer may not always be very popular. But, as the saying implies, the right thing to do is almost always the right thing to do.

Next time you are confronted with a dilemma, try using these fantastic old but true tests and your decision may become much more apparent

You have to be able to live with yourself and your actions. If you know that you can wake up the next day and look yourself in the mirror and feel content with what you have done, you are making the right decision.

The old intuition tactic is tried and true. Very few of us lack a conscience or don’t carry guilt or remorse from doing something wrong. When something doesn’t sit well or seems questionable, it is most likely because intuition and the gut know better

Whether or not we grew up knowing our grandparents, we all have a general belief that our elders are wiser and know better. We tend to want to please our family, show our best qualities and make them proud. When making a decision, think about whether your grandmother or a family member you respect would approve.

When we make good decisions, we are at peace. It is only when we make poor decisions do we suffer physical stress. When we feel good about how we live our lives and the choices we make, sleep is much easier. When we make bad choices, they keep us up at night. They eat away at us and they make it difficult to be at peace.

Being at peace is a very good thing. Being content with who you are and what you do and with what you have is a FANTASTIC thing.

THANKFUL THURSDAY!

Being thankful for the gift of today, and the joy that I find in it, seems like the most simplistic of things to be thankful for, but in reality, it’s probably the most difficult to remain focused upon. So many things happen in life that allow me to stray from my focus of this that it’s always nice to be refocused on the things that really matter. And nothing is more important than the gift that we’ve been granted in today.

We as human beings often suffer from a terrible disease. It’s called, the Take It For Granted disease. We wake up in the morning, and we take that for granted. Our bodies, have the ability to breath in oxygen, and our lungs the ability to process that so that we can have air to live off of, and we take it for granted. We laugh, cry, eat, drink, love, and every emotion in between, and we’ll take that for granted.

Every simple thing that happens throughout the course of the day is often taken for granted as it comes as an expectation that it was simply going to happen. I don’t want to take these things for granted. Quite the opposite. I want to relish in the gifts that they truly are and be joyful that I have the ability to get up in the morning, to walk around, and to embrace all of the joy that has been gifted to me on THIS day.

We often forget about enjoying the life we have right now, in this moment. We often forget that, at some point, these moments will be gone.

I'm thankful this Thursday for each new day.

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY/ WONDERFUL WORDS

SORRY

Most of the time, if I say I am sorry I mean that I take responsibility for what I did wrong and try to make it right. Saying that you are sorry simply means that you regret your choice or action toward another being or feel remorse. It can also mean the sorry person never meant to do it or will never do it again.

I think we've all heard the expression we are better safe than sorry. It's a cliche that means we should be cautious. If we're not then we may regret it. I try not to ever have any regrets in my life. So with that in mind, here is a list that will help us from ever having to say I'm sorry

You will never be sorry

…for thinking before acting.

…for hearing before judging.

…for forgiving your enemies.

…for being candid and frank.

…for helping a fallen brother.

…for being honest in business.

…for thinking before speaking.

…for being loyal to your church.

This winter I've made up my mind that I'm not going to be sorry and I'm mostly keeping inside when the weather is inclement. I've been stocking up on necessities so that I won't be forced to go out when the roads are snow covered and icy.

I think I'm becoming more cautious as I get older and don't like to take many chances. I absolutely love the fact that I no longer have to go out to work each day no matter what the weather.

I won't be sorry, I'll be safe.

Into every life a certain minimum amount of harness must fall. We all have times that we've been frustrated at achieving our goals, Sometimes defeats and disappointments will even cause us to give up.

But there is a very simple secret can help us in achieving our goals. This proven method has worked for thousands of years.

It's so simple that it sounds like a cliche. But the truth is that every human achievement uses this principle:

Mile by mile, life's a trial.
Yard by yard, life is hard.
But inch by inch, life's a cinch!

I'm not sure who came up with that little poem. But like a bricklayer putting up a building one brick at a time, you can use this truth to tackle any goal you set.

Here’s a good inspirational message. Keep it in your hearts.

Death was walking toward a city one morning and a man asked,

What are you going to do?

I’m going to take 100 people, Death replied.

That’s horrible, the man said.

That’s the way it is, Death said. That’s what I do.

The man hurried to warn everyone he could about Death’s plan. As evening fell, he met Death again.

You told me you were going to take 100 people, the man said. Why did 1,000 die?

I kept my word, Death responded. I only took 100 people. Worry took the others.

This interesting tale portrays so well what a Mental Health Committee reported a few years ago – half of all the people in hospital beds are constant worriers. Mental distress can lead to migraine headaches, arthritis, heart trouble, cystitis, colitis, backaches, ulcers, depression, digestive disorders and yes, even death.

Add to that list the mental fatigue of nights without sleep and days without peace, then we get a glimpse of the havoc worry plays in destroying the quality and quantity of life. Worry is, and always will be, a fatal disease of the heart, for its beginning signals the end of faith.

Release the regrets of yesterday, refuse the fears of tomorrow and receive instead, the peace of today.

Merry Monday!

No worries here today. Just staying in and keeping warm for the most part. I do a little work around here each day, trot up and down the stairs for a while and then rest a bit. Nothing much new in my routine for sure.

You have heard of possibilities. But have you heard of availabilities?

If possibilities describe that which could be, then availabilities describe that which already is

An old story tells of a tourist who paused for a rest in a small town in the mountains. He went over to an old man sitting on a bench in front of the general store and asked, Friend, can you tell me something this town is noted for?

Well, the old timer answered. I don’t rightly know ‘cept that it’s the starting point to the world.

Excuse me, said the newcomer.

Yep, the old man continued. You can start here and go anywhere you want!

Many people don’t believe that. They feel hopelessly trapped in their life. They do not believe they can go anywhere they want. Their options are limited to availabilities. They consider what is available and discard their choices in discouragement.

Other people believe that they can start from where they are and go anywhere they want. Their options are limited only by their imaginations. They consider what is possible and pursue their choices with vigor.

Perhaps you are feeling stuck… not so much in a physical location, but in a situation or in your life! If so, have you been confusing availabilities and possibilities?

What if instead of feeling stuck in a routine of work today, you considered the possibility of rest instead.

Sunday rest and relaxation is the starting point for the new week ahead.

SUPER Saturday/ Do you have SUPER strength?

I have a feeling that the Proverbs lady isn't laughing because she thinks the future will be happy funny. She laughs because she is strong enough to pursue her dreams, knowing full well that life will throw all kind of obstacles in her way, and the only way to get through those obstacles without feeling completely overwhelmed and discouraged is to find it the humor in it.

Reasons to laugh now

Lower blood pressure. Initially upon laughing, blood pressure increases, but then falls below normal levels and as breathing deepens blood becomes more oxygen and nutrient rich.

Strengthen immune system. Laughter increases the number of natural killer cells that like to eat viruses for breakfast, as well as certain cancer cells. Antibodies are also increased , which is especially helpful for respiratory infections.

Reduce stress, irritation, depression and anger. In short, laughter changes our biochemical state significantly by decreasing stress hormones, relaxing muscles and upping antibodies that fight infection.

Connect socially. People are drawn to happy people. No one wants a sour-puss. Living is challenging enough without someone frowning and whining in your face. And if you have something to laugh about, people will naturally want to laugh with you.

Workout for the lazy. Or busy. Anyone, really. Laughter not just works out the abs, but also works on the facial, leg, back, diaphragm and respiratory muscles.

Reduce pain. Laughter releases endorphins which are more potent than morphine and reduce the feeling of pain.

…and laugh at yourself.

You’ll make yourself more approachable and human to others.

Gain control. You’ll take away the opportunity of others to make fun of you.

Take things lightly. You won’t take yourself so seriously and realize that everyone stumbles. And really, most of the time the situation is minor and not as earth-shattering as it appears.

Change your perspective. You’ll see things from a different perspective, which may offer a solution or new way of thinking. It’s all in the way one looks at a situation. Look at it with humor and you’ll gain a healthy control over it.But don’t start to make fun of yourself to the point of self-degradation. Always love and respect yourself. Humans make mistakes.

There is something to appreciate and celebrate every day. Find it, Celebrate it! Taste it! Revel in it!

Normally we wait for festive seasons like Christmas and New Year to be in the mood to celebrate. You decorate the house and you play Christmas songs to fill the air. But we can do it every day and find ways to fill our hearts with joy and cheerfulness.

We can listen to our favorite music, treat ourself to our favorite food and do all the things we enjoy every day. Why limit your uplifting mood only during special occasions? Pamper and celebrate with what you like best every day.

The best thing in life is free. Go slow, pay attention and observe. Look at the clouds, the big trees, the children playing in the playground, the blooming and colorful flowers in your garden and the boats drifting in the river. The secret is to focus and discover small and delightful things in your life every day.

What a wonderful world this is for us to live and love and work in. Doesn't it make you want to celebrate your existence every day of the year?

This is the time of year for us to take stock of all the wonderful things that have happened to us in our life. This is a time for us to remember all our blessings. This is the time for us to take stock for all that God has blessed us with and be thankful.

Celebrate life with each new day to make a FANTASTIC difference. Their really is no such thing as an ordinary day.

I do love my life and usually find JOY in every day. That's why I faithfully participate in Thankful Thursdays

WONDERFUL WEDNESDAY!

Sometimes we start a day with the previous day still in mind. We think about the mistakes we made in the previous day, how things went wrong, and how we felt bad about it. No wonder it becomes difficult to focus on the current day. And since we cannot fully focus on the day, our performance may drop and things may once again go wrong.

At the end of each day, we need to take some time to think about what happened that day.. We should finish dealing with that day before the next morning comes. Think of it as closing the door to the past day. You are done with it; don’t think about it anymore. You should close the door to the past day so that you can start your new day fresh.

We need a fresh start at times, a sort of mental cleansing that provides a much needed boost to our outlook on life.You've got to get up every morning with a smile on your face, And show the world all the love in your heart, Then people will treat you better, You're going to find that you're wonderful as you feel

We often need more than simply a new day. People need more than a change of scenery. we also need some kind of radical internal change. We need to start each new day with a fresh outlook on life

Make it a point to look for joy. It can be a great distraction to try and find the bright spots of joy in your life.

Investing our time and energy into experiences, particularly those we can enjoy with our family and friends, is much more likely to enhance our lives in the long run. Life is too short to drink bad wine, eat trashy food and spend all my precious free time taking care of and worrying about stuff I don’t really need.

Surviving 2012 doesn't mean mapping out all 366 days in advance. We only get one at a time. Hopefully there will be more good ones than bad.

Remember, health, happiness and success do not just happen by accident. In 2012, take what life throws your way, do your best and each new day will be a wonderful one!

TERRIFIC 2'S TUESDAY! / A new day and planning

I love being able to get up, and greet a wonderful new day. Most of the time I start off reading several daily devotionals and more often than not they seem like they were written just for me. Yesterday was no different. You know I was concerned about my car repairs and the possibility that my budget was going to have a huge dent put in it.

So today I'm sharing a few thoughts from what I read yesterday.

Enter your day happy and relaxed, and you greatly increase your chances of a healthy, productive day.

It is God who wakes us each morning. If He didn’t keep us alive overnight, it wouldn’t matter what kind of an alarm clock we had!

A fresh start is what many of us were seeking just over a week ago, when we made our New Year’s resolutions. But around this time is when two hard realities usually come to light. Number One: Resolutions are hard to keep! Number Two: There are things about ourselves that no resolution can ever set right. That refusal to forgive, that envy at someone else’s good fortune, that fear, that reluctance to pray—in each of us there are forces and habits too deep-seated for us to reach.

God gave us 24 hours in each day. How I use them is up to me. I may not be able to complete every task assigned to me in a single day. But to continue to put off important things that need doing is not being a good steward of the time and tasks God has given me.

God is to be found in the ordinary events of our everyday lives

I am convinced once more that God communicates with us in many different ways, reminding us of the importance of living each day as though it were our last

All too often we respond to the interruptions of our well ordered lives with attitudes like frustration, irritation, fear, and doubt. God’s surprises in our day are full of opportunities. Let’s welcome them as a new to do list from

Him.

Lessons learned: He places you in the opposite situation. If God wants to teach you love, He will put you around unlovely people. If God wants to teach you peace, He will put you in a situation of total chaos so you can have inner peace.

You don’t have to be thankful for a bad situation. But you can be thankful in a bad situation. That frustration, that irritation, that inconvenience, that interruption, may be a blessing or an opportunity in disguise.

We can be actively thankful about the things that make us the most aggravated. When your temperature rises during the craziest points of this week, stop and give thanks. See how peace invades you

THREE TOUGH MICE

Three mice are sitting at a table in a pretty rough

neighborhood late at night trying to impress each other about

how tough they are.

The first mouse turns to the second mouse and says, When I

see a mousetrap, I lie on my back and set it off with my foot.

When the bar comes down, I catch it in my teach, bench press

it twenty times to work up an appetite, and them make off with

the cheese.

The second mouse replies, Yeah, well, when I see rat poison,

I collect as much as I can, take it home, grind it up to a

powder, and add it to my coffee each morning so I can get

going for the rest of the day.

The first mouse and the second mouse then turned to the third

mouse.

The Third mouse lets out a long sigh and says to the first two,

I don't have time for this. I've got a date with the cat.

It's MERRY Monday here at my house. I hope that maybe that little story made you smile. Very often Monday morning we need something to smile about!

Yesterday morning as I got ready for church I was thinking about how peaceful and quiet my world had been lately. The last time I felt such peace was on Mother's Day morning last year. It was a wonderful feeling knowing that just everything was going right in my world. You do know what happened on Mother's Day...in case you forgot, I wrecked my car. Every now and then the good Lord needs to remind me of just why I depend on him to get me through each day.

Sunday morning was no different. As I pulled out of my driveway to go to church, I noticed that my power steering didn't seem quite right. Then when I drove home from church, I knew it wasn't there at all. I don't know if you've ever driven without power steering or not, but turning a corner isn't easy at all. So today I'm making a date. A date at the car dealership for some repairs. Hopefully it won't be a major thing, but I know it has to be done.

Hope your Monday is a MERRY one at your house, it will be at mine. I have a date after all! Hopefully we will not be playing cat and mouse games!

R AND R SUNDAY / A DAY TO REST

Sunday is the day of the week to rest and relax, worship, spend some quality time with our family and friends. Some find it very hard to break away from household duties and chores and let go of work one day a week, but I've found that your accomplishments will be greater if you take Sundays off. Because our world now seems to operate 24/7, your Sunday may be a different day of the week, but it can be a day of rest anyway

What we need is time to stop and time to rest. For the sake of our personal health and well-being, everyone needs to have a weekly, regular day off.

Relaxing on Sundays remind us of why we work all week. We need to take time to appreciate all that we've accomplished during the week. When you think about it, God finished all His work in 6 days and then rested on the 7th. He took time to look around and see what he had accomplished.

A good way to look at relaxation is to put off doing anything that might be on a To Do list. Another way to look at it might be refraining from anything that is not peaceful. We need to stop what we habitually do, and enjoy the fact we've done some things this week that have made our lives better.

Sunday rest gives us the time and space to enjoy the exquisite shape and glowing color of a daffodil or a rose, the soft fur of a beloved pet, the inviting smell of soup or bread or a scented candle. Sundays give us time to refuel, and to renew our relationships with those we love.

I hope that you didn't need me to remind you to get some rest and relaxation today!

SUPER SATURDAY! We are new everyday

The feelings that the dawn of a new year brings are varied, to be sure. We look forward to new experiences, new relationships, new ventures, new opportunities and new hopes in the coming year.

We all want something new. We like shiny, fresh, pressed and crisp, but I think we need to be cautious in handling the new things that may enter in our lives, taking care, not to make the same mistakes that were made in the past.

The beginning of the year is a time for thinking afresh. We make lists for ourselves at New Year's of things we'd like to improve about our situations, homes, attitudes, health, education, etc. But if we focus too much on the negative aspects of our lives, we shouldn't be surprised if we find that we're stuck in a rut and can't get out, that our experiences don't seem any better, or that we don't have the will to move forward.

When we have cobwebs in our house, we get a broom and brush them off of all the nooks and crannies that they occupy and we look forward , we experience all the present goodness that surrounds us continually. Put in this light, it seems odd that we would ever choose to look at the cobwebs (mistakes, failures, disappointments, regrets) and focus on the past.

As I strive to live totally in the present, I find that each moment can be filled with something new. We cannot just cover up the old with the new, we have to stop holding onto the past. The past is the past. It's gone.

Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.

Celebrating Epiphany

I think that's the real message of Epiphany.

Today, I'll be packing away all the Christmas decorations here at my house, but I certainly hope that even though Christmas is over, I'll be remembering always to keep that Christmas spirit alive in my heart. There will be, of course, some new trinkets and baubles adorning the tables and shelves around here. January is here and we've had a cold and snowy start to the New Year here. Dreary winter days can get to me and so I try to always keep something shiny and bright on display.

There are no donkeys for us to ride, no camels to take us through the desert. We are left mostly to walk through our days, dependent on our own two feet. But knowing that the work of Christmas is just beginning, I will be making the best of every day that's given to me.

That would be quite the sight. I don’t know any drummer and that is my plight. But there are 12 months in every year and I have my calendar to make the kids seem near. Each day that I write what I am to do, It's a reminder to me of how much I miss each and every one of them.

This twelfth night of the twelve days of Christmas is the official end of the winter holiday season and one of the traditional days for taking down the Christmas decorations.

Twelfth Night is followed by Epiphany which is celebrated tomorrow, January 6th. It's the day when the wise men finally end their journey.

I hope you'll join me Friday, when I'll be sharing my thoughts on what Epiphany is all about.

On the Eleventh Day of CHRISTMAS..

As we look into 2012 we look at a block of time. We see 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, 31,536,000 seconds. And all is a gift from God. We have done nothing to deserve it, earn it, or purchased it. Like the air we breathe, time comes to us as a part of life.

Music should be soothing .

And listening pleasure.

Speaking of which, bed that is, one of my Christmas gifts were some sheets that were called Polar Fleece. Oh my, they are wonderful.

I don't know if you remember a song that was sung by some greats like Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Durante, and Tony Bennett...

As Time Goes By...

that was truly a pleasure to listen to which ever one of them happened to be singing it.

My gift to you today is a thought or two about time

The gift of time is not ours alone. It is given equally to each person. Rich and poor, educated and ignorant, strong and weak – every man, woman and child has the same twenty-four hours every day.

Another important thing about time is that you cannot stop it. There is no way to slow it down, turn it off, or adjust it. Time marches on.

And you cannot bring back time. Once it is gone, it is gone. Yesterday is lost forever. If yesterday is lost, tomorrow is uncertain. We may look ahead at a full year’s block of time, but we really have no guarantee that we will experience any of it.

Obviously, time is one of our most precious possessions. We can waste it. We can worry over it. We can spend it on ourselves or on others.

The new year is full of time. As the seconds tick away, will you be tossing time out the window, or will you make every minute count?

Time is a gift that we can treasure each and every moment.

On the tenth day of Christmas...

Change is a part of life. Seasons change, children become adults, people enter and exit my life under both sad and happy circumstances. Every change brings a blessing, however easy or hard it may be to see at the time. Every change is a part of our life's journey

January 3rd:Day 10 Ten lords leaping, Wonder if they could reach the stars?

I don’t know but they liked candles

The ones put in jars.

I went ahead and burnt them.

They are the very best.

I think we all dream of some changes we'd like to make in our lives. Sometimes the change is as simple as putting away the Christmas decorations. Other times our dreams take us to far off places that we'd like to see. The changes in my life come day by day and I'm always intrigued about what may come my way. Having had a good many days of my life that have been very ordinary, I've come to love those too. There is comfort in knowing that nothing drastic has changed in my life. I find a lot of JOY in simple pleasures.

I saw on the calendar that this is a LEAP year. So for this year we'll be having 366 days instead of the normal 365. I am not leaping to any conclusions about what this new year may bring, but I do think that at this time of new beginnings it is more important than ever to make the most of every moment.

ON THE 9TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS

TheTWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS continues...

Christmas is a time for Love; a time for Joy and Peace; A time to trim the Christmas Tree and a time to stuff the geese. It’s a time when we can come together, however far or near;To shed a little hope into a world of sorrow and fear.

Yet Christmas could be all year ’round, if only we would try To gently wipe an old man’s brow or soothe a baby’s cry. If we could smile throughout the year as we do on Christmas Day; Just think what happiness we’d shed along life’s weary way.

To give a gift of Hope to one who otherwise has none; To be a Friend to somebody whom everyone else has shun. To be Forgiving of our faults, and of our sisters and our brothers;To Live in Peace and Harmony with ourselves and with each other.

January 2nd: Day Nine

Nine Ladies dancing they put on a show. Their feet got so tired So wouldn’t you know, I found some slippers for soothing my feet They’re comfy and cozy . Wow what a treat!

When you think about about it, waking up each morning and feeling refreshed does remove all the weariness of the previous day. Tired aching feet or even a grumpy attitude improves after a little rest and relaxation. The little poem below says it all.

To Believe

On the 7th Day of Christmas...

December 31st: Day Seven Seven swans swimming

But the water was so cold I couldn’t catch them, I couldn’t grab hold. So I grabbed some towels to dry my hair. You can go swimming and chase swans if you dare.

Recipe for Life.

1 Heaping cup of encouragement

1 cup of melted compassion

2 cups of hope

1 cup of love

1 tablespoon of faith -- it only takes a little

2 large unbeaten attitudes

Lots of hugs in assorted sizes

Cream encouragement and compassion together.

Add hope, love, and faith.

Mix thoroughly until smooth.

Slowly add the unbeaten attitude.

Batter should be firm but not unyielding. knead gently.

Roll in hugs and cut out to the desired shape.

Add stars for eyes and a kiss.

Bake in a warm oven.

Excellent when shared with a friend.

To mark a new beginning of the year here at my house, I try to make sure that the refrigerator and the pantry is stocked and that I have plenty of sweets and citrus around the house. I've always believed that oranges cure a lot of winter ills. The Chinese believe that oranges symbolize gold and good news and often roll then into the house at the lunar New Year.

Some like to buy flowers or a new plant to greet the New Year to symbolize a healthy a healthy and lush start.

Placing quarters on the window ledge is another way to symbolize wealth in the New Year. All you really need to do is have enough quarters for everyone present, and maybe a few for those who are not, and set them out until the New Year arrives. With any luck, everyone will have great financial luck in the New Year.

There are all sorts of things we can to do symbolize a new and prosperous beginning in our homes. Maybe you'd like to share what you do at your house.

FANTASTIC FRIDAY

ON THE 6TH DAY OF CHRISTMAS...

December 30th: Day Six Six geese a laying

*Sigh* We’re back to those birds! I tried stealing their eggs. But their cries could be heard. So I gave up and went to the grocery store. and bought some candy canes

Candy canes are fantastic Christmas treats. I always have a bunch of them around every Christmas. I decorate with them and also use them for a stirrer in my hot chocolate . Mmmmm good. Today my gift to you will be a little recipe for a delicious dip I make every Christmas using Candy canes.

Candy Cane Dip

1/2 Cup crushed peppermint candy canes

12 oz. Cool Whip, thawed

Wafer Cookies

Fold crushed peppermint into whipped topping. The easiest and fastest way to crush is by using a food processor…Warning--it is rather loud!. Cover and refrigerate overnight. Before serving, stir dip to

distribute the peppermint bits. Serve with wafers.

To make a great presentation it can be served with Pepperidge Farms Pirouette Créme Filled Wafers! My favorite!

Everyone seems to love it, but this year I had a bit leftover and think that maybe there were just too many other things to eat at our family celebration, so I'm not sure if I'll make it again next year.

And here's something for you to try out...Just for fun..
