Chapter 12, Page 4, Book 20

We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.

Winston Churchill

December 4th  - have a life worth living

You can give without loving, but you cannot love without giving.

Robert Louis Stevenson

How well we live is largely determined not by how much we got from life but how much we can give to it.

There is no doubt that our lives will be more fulfilled and worthwhile if we give to others.  For what we give, we get back in abundance.

Our greatest gift os the ability to share our blessings.  It’s what makes life meaningful .  With just one act of kindness you can inspire others to go out and plant seeds of happiness through giving too.

Its the season of giving and most of us are thinking about what to give to other in our lives.  No matter what we give, we’ll be making someone happy and then we’ll be happy too.

Unfortunately many of us end up focusing on working for money to make a living which makes life seam insignificant in comparison.

Both are essential, but I’d rather have a life than make a living.  I give to others as much as I can.  I give my love, support, care and respect, not just the money that would make a living.  I choose to focus primarily and creating my life,  a life that is worth living, and from there I get all I ineed to make my living.

Most people do the opposite. They work ,work to make a living.  to pay their bills, to keep food on the table and find themselves too tired out to have a life.  They work so hard they forget about making a life for themselves.

It’s easy to let busyness take our focus off what’s really important.  This season of giving is an opportunity to give generously to the people I love.  And I make it my goal to keep my focus on that spirit of giving throughout the season.  It helps me keep the parties and preparations in perspective, so I can truly enjoy the experience of the joy of giving.

The heart of the giver is much more important than the contents of the gift box.  When I give from the heart, I receive mach joy.  and I believe it's more blessed to give than to receive.

Remember the happiest people are not those getting more, but those giving more.

H. Jackson Brown Jr.

Have a life worth living. There is more to life than work.

I see so much of the lives spent to GET stuff and less spent as 'valuable family time'. I call a lot of it 'big boy toys.' Buying the big boats, the big houses and other BIG stuff then working a lot of overtime or 2 jobs to keep them up with not enough time to enjoy them. We still remember the camper you had, and the quality times you talked about. It is a prize when people know the importance of the 'truly big' things in life. The things that last PAST our time on this earth in the minds of the children.

I'd have given anything if my father had realized this. Because he was so focused on working two jobs to give our family everything, he didn't live to enjoy retirement. For a while there, my son was headed down the same path, but turned his life around before it could impact his marriage and his health.

I think the best thing one can give is the gift of their time.
