Chapter 12, Page 3, Book 20

No small act of kindness is ever wasted.

Aesop

December 3rd - always be kind

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a harder battle.

Plato

In this age of technology and fast paced living, it’s sometimes all to easy to simply ignore those around us, to forget to interact with them , to forget to be compassionate and thoughtful.  To forget to be generous and considerate.  To forget to be kind. And sadly it is often those closest to us. The ones right at home.

We need more people to put their focus into the good, to change the way we treat each other and the way we communicate with each other and to spread kindness as a way of life.

It can be something small, doesn’t have to be big but if you want to do something big, then go for it.  Take the time to show acts of kindness by making a positive difference in someone’s day.

Aesops message reminds us that the success we have in our lives is limited by our persception of ourselves and what success actually is .  And that any act of kindness whether toward ourselves or others is never wasted. Whatever view we have of ourselves is never truly accurate.  We all have the untapped ability, talents and potential we are unaware of .  We are changing all the time, as is the world around us.  We often get stuck in a particular view about ourselves that limits our willingness to challenge and explire new opportunities as they arise, forgetting that we can change and grow.

There are many opportunities  available to us all the time that  creates conditions for our continued growth and success.  It’s the opportunity to practice loving kindness. All our activities, interactions, and events in our lives provide us with opportunities for loving kindness.  When we explore the rich potential for kindness, they are immeasurable.

The motivation of loving kindness is primarily concerned with the well being of ourselves and others.  It seeks to nurture and support ourselves, others  and the world we live in.

When others treat us with loving kindness, we feel it and want to keep those people around .  Likewise many others will want to feel our loving kindness and keep us engaged in their lives as well.  We may never know the full impact of a small act of kindness , such as a smile or a helping hand, but we do know that acts of kindness never wasted.  Kindness provides the nourishment for all of us to live together in healthy and meaningful ways.

Be the reason someone smiles.  Be the reason someone feels loved and believes in the goodness in people.

Be a little kinder than you have to.

Well, this sure resonates! In fact, I recognized myself in something another blogger posted this morning. Cathy said it far better than I could: "Why is it the person we love the most is the one we can be the grumpiest with? I really hate that, but it's the truth. Maybe it's because we feel safe with them ...."

I want to be that person Mr. Bennett challenges us to become.

Especially this holiday season with it being such a unique year we really do need to be more kind (and patient) than in previous years!
