Chapter 5, Page 30, Book 20

Life is similar to a bus ride.
The journey begins when we board the bus.
We meet people along our way of which some are strangers, some
friends and some strangers yet to be friends.
There are stops and intervals and people board in
At times some of these people make their presence felt, leave an impact
through their grace and beauty on us fellow passengers while on other
occasions they remain indifferent.
But then it is important for some people to make an exit, to get down
and walk the paths they were destined to because if people always made
and entrance and never left with either for the better or worse, then we would feel suffocated and confused like those people on the bus, the purpose of the journey would use its essence and the journey altogether would neither be worthwhile nor smooth.

May 30th - your presence is a present to the world.

We convince by our presence.

Walt Whitman

Sometimes we try to deal with problems and worries all by ourselves.  It is not an easy thing , nearly always an impossible task.  But with the help of someone it can become manageable.

Our presence can be a great gift to someone.  It goes way beyond what we ever think.  Over  the years I’ve come to realize more and more that just being present for someone is what matters most.   On many occasions I didn’t have the words to say but I was willing to be present and just hold the light.

When we hold the light we are making such a difference.  We may not feel the difference but others most certainly do.  Presence makes a big difference. There have been occasions I needed to be able to learn to be alongside people without being able to do anything but just be there for them.

Wherever you are - be all there.

Jim Elliot

To be a good friend, you simply have to be there for them when they need you.

I'm trying to maintain a presence with those close to me, whether in person at a safe distance or virtually. It's been tough, but so worthwhile. Take care!

That bus ride analogy is sure something! In particular, these words: "..... if people always made and entrance and never left with either for the better or worse, then we would feel suffocated and confused."

I agree, sometimes just having someone to BE there with us is an incredible gift. Bill Withers expressed it so beautifully: "Lean on me, when you're not strong and I'll be your friend..."

I liked the analogy with the bus. We do need to be present in people's lives especially these days. We need to reach out especially those in need.

I too liked the analogy, but when you said:
Over the years I’ve come to realize more and more that just being present for someone is what matters most.....
I remembered just how true that has been...
