Chapter 11, Page 16, Book 19

I saw old Autumn in the misty morn stand shadowless like silence, listening to silence.

Thomas Hood

November 16th - listening to the silence

True silence is the rest of the mind; it is to the spirt what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.

William Penn

Fall is a silent season with out the noise of summer.  No one hears the leaves fall.   I think its good to have a silent season to give us time to rest and renew.

Silence is good for our own physical health and well being.Besides giving our ears a break, silence has been shown to lower blood pressure, boost the bodies immune system, decrease stress and  promotes psychological and emotional benefits.

Silence makes us more creative.  Solutions to long standing problems may suddenly occur.  Silence permits the kind of reflection that is beyond mere introspection.  It promotes the ability to connect threads in a seemingly disorganized, disconnected world.

Going for walks in nature is an easy way to enjoy silence.  I saw old Autumn on a misty morn….

The word listen contains the same letters as the word silent.

Alfred Brendel

Since I am now completely deaf without my 'devices' I have actually learned to appreciate silence. It does open up a new world. Until this entry I had never thought of Fall as the silent season, but it is seeing leaves fall with a sound. NEAT entry. Thanks.

Like Betty, I find silence comforting. When I was commuting 32 mi. each way, I deliberately kept my car's sound system off, allowing me one-on-one time with God.
