Chapter 6, Page 4, Book 19

You can excel in any walk of life, any stage of life, all you need is the two traits of focus and concentration to compliment your ability to work hard.

June 4th - focus on what’s important

Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next

Dennis Whitely

When I focus on what is important in my life it’s easier to set goals and make plans for what I need to do.  Everything that I do, evolves around three things, my faith, my family and my friends.  They are what is important in my life.

I know that I have to make lists, set dates on the calendar, and plan my time carefully.  The older I get the slower I go, so keeping my focus has become more and more important these days.

I like to do a lot of different things and enjoy them all, but I’ve learned to pick and choose my priorities.  When I worked it was the same.  I had to choose what needed my attention first and then do what could wait until later.

There are always going to be distractions and interruptions, that try to steal our focus away, that’s why I try to be flexible and will turn my focus to something else, if it’s needed.  Not everything is truly important though, and deciding what is a priority is up to us.  It’s not easy but a good way to live in order to do what must be done.

The main thing is to keep the main thing a main thing.

Steven Covey

By focusing on what is important, our goals are easily met.

I like your thought about we have to prioritize what you might want to do. I have too much on my plate right now I need to sort out what I really want to do and get rid of a lot. Thanks for that reminder Ma.

I used to say I was 'putting out the fire that burned the highest.' So happy to have put multi-tasking behind me! Life will always give us 'pop-up's', but prioritizing (and learning to say 'no') makes life much nicer.

For me to stop I almost have to scream STOP to myself.

Sherry just got to your blog. Where is our comment? I don't know! for some reason I hit the wrong thing on the keyboard and it is gone. This is the 3rd keyboard in three weeks. I'm beginning to think it is ME!
Anyway, I try to follow my lists, but HONESTLY I am getting just like the standard joke about the man who starts 5-8 tasks and moves from one to the other forgetting he started the others. The I run across something I started and do finish it. But I am beginning to worry about me LOL.
Nice cooler day down here,
Sherry & jack

focusing on what is important saves the day. "Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next."
