Chapter 6, Page 2, Book 18

Don’t dig up in doubt
what you planted in faith.

Elizabeth Elliot

second guessing yourself

If we are ever in doubt what to do, it is a good rule to ask ourselves what we shall wish on the morrow that we had done.

John Lubbock

There are times we all find ourselves doubting a decision we’ve made. It’s easy to get wrapped up in second guessing yourself, going round in circles and over complicating things.

When making decisions we are encouraged to take our time and think things through.  And when it comes to important decisions I always pray a lot too.

It’s not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.

Roy Disney

Doubting our decisions after we make them, steals the enjoyment from every thing we do.  We need to make the best decisions we can and trust God with the results.

Doubt sees the obstacles
faith sees the way.
Doubt sees the darkest night
Faith sees the day.
Doubt dreads to take a step
Faith soars on high
Doubt questions, who believes?
Faith answers, I.

I don't do it often, but second guessing has hurt me many times. I cannot remember a time that prayer actually failed me. May not have been answered the way I liked every time, but it has never failed. I do not like DOUBT!

I really like that quote by John Lubbock … good advice! One of the phrases I'd most like to see eliminated from our vocabulary is, "Are you SURE?"

I tend to sometimes second guess decisions, but I do a lot of praying for the important ones I have to make. Those I don't seem to second guess usually.

That first quote is one I’ve never seen. It resonated with me.

that first quote is profound, indeed. "When making decisions we are encouraged to take our time and think things through. "
