The vanity of human life is like a river, constantly passing away, and yet constantly coming on.
Alexander Pope
Excerpt from one of my weekly devotionals… slightly adapted
There is much to be said about rivers. We are only too aware of the great power of a river in a flood, and in contrast the beauty of the gentle flowing river in the heat of summertime. Every river has and energy and flow. Comparing life to a river is a good image. The many twists and turns of a river reflect life and is unpredictability. Every day brings forth some measure of how uncertain life can be. Life can be uplifting and rewarding but just as quick, it can be cruel and unforgiving. We have no option but to go with the flow.
Even when the river floods out over the banks on either side, there comes a time when the river will recede back to where things were.
Life just is. You have to flow with it. Give yourself to the moment. Let it happen.
Jerry Brown.

My life is flowing like a river...
This is a wonderful analogy, Ma!
Just yesterday afternoon I was watching olden home movies here at the computer: My 5 y/o self sitting atop a rock beside the Arkansas River. I wondered, whatever became of that rushing water? Yep, one can no more capture those swells than stop time.
i like the analogy of life compared to a river. "The many twists and turns of a river reflect life and is unpredictability. "
Good analogy with the river and life. And as God stopped the Jordan River so the Israelites could cross to the Promised Land, we need to remember He is with us no matter which way our rivers of life may be flowing.
betty
Going with the flow. WE are doing just that.
