Chapter 3, Page 31, Book 18

The world always looks brighter from behind a smile.

Author Unknown

Just smile...

If you smile at someone, they might smile back.

Author Unknown

A smile is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.  A smile makes people feel good and people look beautiful when they smile.  When the joy in your life is obvious, it rubs off on others.  But when you keep it locked inside of you and don’t allow it to show on your face, you deprive others of a pleasant and refreshing experience.

A friendly look, a kindly smile, one good act, and life’s worthwhile.

Author unknown

Most of us don’t understand the power of a smile.  Expressing joy can change circumstances and even the lives of others.  Smiles can chase away a negative and depressing day.

Wear a smile and have friends, wear a scowl and have wrinkles.

George Elliot

Expressing joy by smiling brings good things into our lives and by sharing it with others, we can brighten their lives too.

If you don’t start out the day with a smile, it’s not to late to start practicing for tomorrow.

Chapter 3, Page 30, Book 18

We must strengthen, defend, preserve, and comfort each other.  We must love one another.

John Winthrop

just for today, I will make love my highest priority

What the world needs now is love, sweet love: It’s thinly thing that there’s just too little of

David Bacharach

I have Good Friday on my mind today and my thoughts wander to the greatest love story ever told.  So I’m sharing thoughts on love and my love with you all today.  Don’t we all love a good love story.

Love was the reason, the motivation, and it’s the answer to it all.

One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life:  That word is love.

Sophocles

The greatest love is the love that gives the most.  The more you’re willing to give for somebody, the more you love them.  Loving involves giving.

This is my commandment:  that you love each other as I have loved you.  There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Life can be like a roller coaster with it’s ups and downs.  What matters is whether you are keeping your eyes open or closed during the ride and who is next to you.

Ana Ortega

The roller coaster of life

With peaks of joy and valleys of heartache, life is a roller coater ride. the rise and fall of which defines our journey. It is both scary and exciting at the same time.

Sebastian Cole

The rise and fall of circumstances can wear on us. We’ve all been on it: zooming to the crest of elation, plunging to the depths of despair, whipping around changes in the direction of our desires and will.  But it is our choice to enjoy the ride.

There are those who say growing older is tough. It can be. It all depends where you are sitting on the roller coaster that day or time. Enjoy the ride while you're at the top, it will give you strength to hold on when you're down at the bottom.

Hold on and enjoy the ride!

Chapter 3, Page 28, Book 18

There is nothing that makes its way more directly to the soul than beauty.

Joseph Addison

Stop the world and take in the beauty around you

Looking for and enjoying beauty is a way to nourish the soul, the universe is in the habit of making beauty.  There are flowers and songs, snowflakes and smiles, acts of great courage, laughter between friends, a job well done, the smell of fresh baked bread.  Beauty is everywhere.

Mathew Fox.

It is easy to overlook people, places and things that we see every day, but there is still beauty if we take some time to look for it.

When we look for the beauty all around us, it changes how we see the world.  We need to see beauty in everything from our daily problems to ourselves.

Looking for beauty in everything isn’t always easy. We don’t always know how to see it or always want to see it.  But it is there and it makes life better too.  It’s worth it.

I’ve discovered that even if you are not exactly where you’d like to be, it doesnt mean that right now can’t be beautiful .  You don’t have to do anything to make it beautiful, it already is.

We get caught up in the things that really aren’t important .  Realizing that beauty exists in every moment is possible, it simply takes a way of seeing things a bit differently.  We have to slow down so we don't miss the beauty that is every where.

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

Ability is what you’re capable of doing.  Motivation determines what you do. Attitude determines how well you do it.

Lou Holtz

There are many things that motivate us to do what we do.  Sometimes it’s fear, or a desperate need for control.  Other times it is love and my love for my family is what motivates me in more cases than not.

When it comes to getting results, it takes motivation and ability.  Motivation makes things happen.  Where there’s no will.  There is no way.

People often say the motivation doesn’t last.  Well, neither does bathing - that’s way we recommend it daily.

Zig Ziglar

With my large family my motivation is constant as new things are constantly happening.  My motivation never ends…there is always something to keep me reaching for a goal.  It may be making things for them, cakes and cookies, artwork for gifts, or even praying…always something to pray about too.

When people are highly motivated, it’s easy to accomplish the impossible. And when they’re not, it’s impossible the accomplish the easy.

Teach us to delight in the simple things.

Rudyard Kipling

Just look around…

A happy life is made of little things.

Carol Homes

It truly is the simple things in life that make us happiest.  It can be as simple as a hot shower, a sunny morning, or taking a long walk in the woods.  The best things in life are free for the taking.  They aren’t even available to buy.

To be rich in admiration and free from envy, to rejoice greatly in the good of others, to love with such generosity of heart that your love is still a dear possession in absence or unkindness - these are the gifts which money cannot buy.

Robert Louis Stevenson

Money cannot buy happiness.  When we stop long enough to allow ourselves to delight in even the smallest things in life, our worries and cares seem to shrink as our joy and happiness grow.

A thousand daily little things make their offering of pleasure to this who know how to be pleased.

Chapter 3, Page 25, Book 18

Do more than belong: participate
Do more than care: help.
Do more than be fair: be kind.
Do more than forgive: forget
Do more than dream: work.

William Arthur Ward

There is always more to do…

You’ll seldom experience regret for anything that you’ve done.  It is what you haven’t done that will torment you.  The message, therefore, is clear.  Do it!  Develop an appreciation for the present moment.  Seize every second of your life and savor it.

Dr. Wayne Dyer

Life goes on and is ever changing.  Just when we think our work is done, we find out there is more to do.  I think the important thing is choosing what to do.  We all want to live life with no regrets.

Truth is that we must find time to do the things that matter to us and are important to us.  Otherwise we’ll find ourselves regretting what we didn’t do.  Life is short and time is precious.

I’ve made some mistakes but still I have no regrets.  Mistakes only help to make us better. We can learn from them and move on.  Life comes with no guarantees, we just have to live it to fullest.

This is the beginning of a a new day.  You have been given this day to use as you will.  You can waste it or use it for good.  What you do today is important because  you are exchanging a day of your life for it.  When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever; in its place is something you have left behind…let it be something good.

Chapter 3, Page 24, Book 18

Spring itself is Faith.  In all it’s glory and colors the true nature of our being is being reborn.  Faith roots in our souls and grows in our hearts.  Faith is the very beat of our hearts.  Faith is the air we breathe.  Faith is the lump in our throats and the tears we shed.  Faith is the first rose that blooms.

Barbara Collier

Keeping the faith...

Faith is a curious thing.  It must be renewed;  it has it’s own Spring.

Gladys Taber

I am a woman of faith and I do believe that no matter what our circumstances , things do work out for the good.

A woman of faith trusts in the Lord, which means trusting in His promises and therefore will follow in keeping their own promises.  A woman of faith keeps herself in the Word, by learning…since we never stop doing that.  A woman of faith prays.

No matter what happens my faith cannot be shaken.  It’s tried and true and  I won’t stop believing.

Faith is not without worry or care, but faith is fear that has said a prayer.

Author Unknown

With Easter right around the corner, I thought the symbolism of Spring and Faith was a good topic to pursue. We can plant seeds of faith this spring.

Spring is a time when the ground is ready for planting.  But in order to see the seeds grow, we have to actively tend to the process.  After the seeds are planted, we have to water them and weed the garden.  We cannot sit back and expect to harvest what we have not sown.

And so it is with our faith.  We have to be active participants in order for it to grow. Faith roots in our souls and grows in our hearts.

Faith is putting all your eggs in God’s basket, the counting your blessings before they hatch.

Chapter 3, Page 23, Book 18

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Trying...

That man is blest who does his best and leaves the rest.

Charles F. Deems

The best you can be is being the best you can be.  My  best isn’t going to be your best.  What’s best for others isn’t always best for me either.

I’ve always thought that as long as I was doing anything, I should give it the best I’ve got.  If my best wasn’t in it , then it’s was worth doing at all.  If I try my best to do something, even though I make mistakes, at least I know I gave it a try.

Doing your best is synonymous with living out each and every moment to it’s fullest potential. Doing your best is about putting all your energy into whatever you are currently doing.

If you put your best effort in, then it doesn’t matter if you won or lost.  It’s enough that we live each and every moment with the intention of giving it your all.

You’re not obligated to win.  You’re obligated to keep trying to do the best you can every day.

Chapter 3, Page 22, Book 18

One person can make a difference and every person must try.

John F. Kennedy

Make a difference ...

There can be no difference anywhere that does not make a difference somewhere.

William James

I like to think that most of us try to leave the world a better place than we found it, but it’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking that nothing we do matters. Truth is that we all can do things both large and small for others and for ourselves that make will make a difference every day if we choose to do so.

Whether it’s watering a plant or donating to the homeless, a difference will be made.  Every little difference can make a big difference to someone.

We may not make a change so big that it will be recognized by people of the world, but it’ ll be appreciated by someone, somewhere and that counts for a lot.

There is little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference.  The little difference is attitude.  The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.

Chapter 3, Page 21, Book 18

Expect to have hope rekindled.  Expect your prayers to be answered in wondrous ways.  The dry season in life do not last.  The spring rains will come again.

Sarah Ban Breathnach

Every season brings a reason to rejoice.

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.

Ecclesiastics 3:1

New seasons are important for many people.  Some count down the days because of what they hope a new season will bring. We also go through seasons of life that don’t have anything to do with the weather.

In fact, all of nature cycles through seasons of change and transformation.  It’s a natural part of life.  Each season of life brings valuable lessons that can help us to stretch and grow.

Human beings, by changing their inner attitudes of their minds can change out aspects of their lives.

William James

Life is about constant change and it’s our attitude toward life that counts.  You cannot change the seasons but you can change  yourself.  Attitudes determine choice and choice determines results.

Spring is a season of activity and opportunity.  It shows us that life is a constant beginning.  It’s a time of rebirth.  Everything comes to life again.

Spring reawakens the soul to wonder and expectation.

Nature often holds up a mirror so we can see more clearly the ongoing process of growth, renewal and transformation in our lives.

We all grow better in sunshine and in love.

Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Bloom and grow

We need 4 hugs a day for survival.  We need 8 hugs a day for maintenance.  We need 12 hugs a day for growth.

Virginia Satir

Just as a plant needs sunshine to grow we humans need cheerfulness and love too.   Our relationships need tender loving care and so do we in order to flourish and grow.

Growth itself contains the germ of happiness.

Pearl S. Buck

We must promise ourselves the favor of consistently planting, watering and nurturing the positive seeds that will cause our lives to bloom and thrive.

A flower can not blossom without sunshine, and man cannot live without love.

Chapter 3, Page 19, Book 18

Spring cleaning for the Soul.

I Threw Out…

Last week I threw out Worrying
It was getting old and in the way
It kept me from being me;
I couldn’t do things my way.

I threw out those inhibitions
They were just crowding me out.
Made room for my New Groth.
Got rid of old dreams and doubts

I threw out childhood toys
Remember how I treasured them so?
Got me a new Philosophy too.
Threw out the one from long ago.

Brought in some new books too,
Called:  I Can, I Will, and I must.
Threw out - I might, I think and I ought.
Wow!  You should have seen the dust.

I picked up this special thing
And placed at the from door.
I found it — its call Peace
Nothing gets me down anymore

Yes, I’ve got my house looking nice.
Looks good around the place
For things like Worry and Trouble
There just isn’t any place.

Its good to do a little house cleaning
Got rid of the old things on the shelf.
It sure makes things seem brighter.
Maybe you should try it for yourself.

Author Unknown

As the days get longer, although it is still cold outside, we all start to feel the pull to spring clean. Spring is the time we often clean out closets of unwanted things and dust out the corners of our space.  It’s also the time I think about the cobwebs floating about in my mind and this dust bunnies in my heart.

Spring cleaning the house is easy.  Spring cleaning life is tough.

Anonymous

I know there are negative thoughts that need to go and old feelings that cloud my windows and distort my vision.  Time to clear my heart of dusty grudges and outmoded resentments.

Forgive and set yourself free.  When we forgive, we heal our own anger and hurt and are able to let love lead again.  It’s like spring cleaning for our heart.

Angie Karan

It’s time to shake off winter and spring clean body, mind and soul.

It’s time for a spring cleaning of your thoughts, it’s time to stop to just existing, it’s time to start living.

Steve Maraboli
