Chapter 12, Page 26, Book 17

RINGING IN THE NEW YEAR

Christmas day is the pleasantest day in the whole year. On that day we think tenderly of distant friends; we strive to forgive injuries—to close accounts with ourselves and the world—to begin the new year with a white leaf, and a trust that the chapter of life about to be written will contain more notable entries, a fairer sprinkling of good actions, fewer erasures made in blushes, and fewer ugly blots than some of the earlier ones.

Alexander Smith

After Christmas Day the house turns quiet with thoughts turning to the new year.  The 12 Chapters of the year 2017 will soon come to an end.  Yet who knows what the remaining pages may contain.  The future is not ours to know.

From now and through January 2018 I’m going to be ringing in the new year with some new thoughts and some old ones.  Hopefully some encouragement and smiles too.

Each page written here in this journal represents a day of my life and the thoughts I think.  The bits and pieces that I find to be worth keeping.  The sometimes bright and beautiful things I want to remember and maybe will mean something to you too.

It depends on us. . . Another year lies before us like an unwritten page, an unspent coin, an unwalked road.  How the pages will read, what treasures will be gained in exchange for time, or what we find along the way, will largely depend on us.

Esther Baldwin York

A bell is a good symbol to represent the new year. Bells emit a cheerful noise and are enjoyed in ringing out the old, ringing in the new.

Just like the holidays come and go before we know it, our lives also come and go before we know it.  Another year is is ending…ready or not…

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

T.S. Eliot

Its hard to believe this year is winding down and 2018 is just around the corner. I'm planning on making some good changes in 2018 and looking to see what is in store for me and the family :)

Oh! I wonder if your first image isn't that bell you said you bought shortly after you married?
Both of the quotes you've chosen are beautiful. I like the thought of a white leaf.

to make a beginning we must have an ending. it's nice to use bells to signify a new beginning. "It depends on us. . . Another year lies before us like an unwritten page, an unspent coin, an unwalked road. "
