Chapter 9, Page 1, Book 17

Try to remember the kind of September
When life was slow and oh so mellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When grass was green and grain so yellow
Try to remember the kind of September
When you were a young and a callow fellow
Try to remember and if you remember
Then follow--follow, oh-oh.

Try to Remember, Lyrics by Tom Jones and Harvey Schmidt

September used to be my favorite month and I still have many fond memories of September days. This is the month I got married after all.  52 years ago, on September 11th,  a grand and wonderful adventure began. Besides that, I’ve always loved the cooler days and brilliant colors that September days bring our way.

DDH passed away at the very young age of 50 and I’ve been alone now some 20 or so years.  But adventure continues.  Not only did he give me a wonderful life, but he gave me 7 beautiful children and they in turn have given me 22 grandchildren.  I have had many Septembers without him and am thankful for those golden days we had together.

September morn
Do you remember how we danced that night away
Two lovers playing scenes from some romantic play
September morning still can make me feel this way.

Neil Diamond and Gilbert Becaud

Oh my but I do remember when I was young…and the days were mellow. Time did seem to move at a much slower pace.

These September days are now bitter/sweet ones of me.  Some sad and some happy but all are good.  The best thing of all is that my family and I are still making some wonderful memories and I’m sure DDH would approve!

The pictures today are of one of the many tailgating picnic’s in the park that we enjoyed last year.  The weather held up nicely and we were able to even have one in October.

By all these lovely tokens
September days are here,
With summer’s best of weather
And autumn’s best of cheer.

The nice thing we have is the memories from finer days when our loved ones were with us and those carry us through the bittersweet times. I know December is a hard month for me, but October a nice month as we got married in it. Time just seems to be flying these days.

Oh girl, I love your September entry. We too were married in September. You have a sweet family story. Like the pictures. Enjoy YOUR September.

I love Septembers too. I can't imagine losing my wife Jilda so young. I know it must have been a hard road without him.
Having kids and a bunch of grandkids has to be a good thing though.

How wonderfully poignant! Just the idea of SEPTEMBER(!!!) evokes a bit of latent energy and pleasant memories.

I just watched the weather forecast..... while none of next week's temps are supposed to fall below 106-degrees, I'm hopeful.

Both of these songs you've excerpted are favorites.
