The salt of the earth

The roots of love sink down and
deep and strike out far, and they are
arteries that feed our lives, so we
must see that they get the water
and sun they need so they can
nourish us.  And when you put
something good into the world,
something good comes back to you.

Merle Shain

It’s an old saying, but I’ve heard it said that some people are the salt of the earth. Being described by someone as the salt of the earth is quite a compliment, it means that you are a person of great worth and reliability.

When you consider the qualities you find most attractive in people, kindness, cheerfulness, thoughtfulness, or helpfulness may come to mind. When you see people with these qualities, you are drawn to them; you want to get to know them and maybe even become more like them. Well, these same qualities can make you more attractive as well.

Influence, just like salt shaken out, is hard to see, but its flavor is hard to miss.

Pam Farrel

The lives of many people are in great need of seasoning. We can make manual labor tangy and human relationships zesty.
It’s all about reaching out to others in genuine concern and compassion. It’s about offering to help someone with a problem. It’s about accompanying someone through a difficult time without expecting any reward or any thanks. It means giving flavor to life.

You are the salt of the earth.

Matthew 5:13

Make life deliciously delightful.

So true we need to season people's lives with the salt the Good Lord has given us.

Boy, that Jack hit the nail on its head!
Last year one of my h/s classmates lost his wife; and in the following days, reading all the on-line condolences, I had a bit of an epiphany: Almost to a person, people commented on how KIND she was. Not "how pretty" or "how witty" -- none of that stuff that seemed so critical in my youth.

influencing others is an important tool to help them. "It’s all about reaching out to others in genuine concern and compassion. It’s about offering to help someone with a problem."
