Chapter 1, Page 10, Book 17

Approach the New Year with resolve to find the opportunities hidden in each new day.

Michael Josephson

January 10th - something new every day

Every day is a fresh beginning;
Listen my soul, to the glad refrain,
And in spite of old sorrow… and possible pain,
Take heart with the day and begin again.

Susan Coolidge

Opportunity inspires hope, as well as something we can wish upon to make our lives better. They say that every day is an opportunity to make a new happy ending.  We can do this by the choices we make.  It’s our choice and no one else can change that without our permission.

Life is too short to wait. Every new day is another chance to change your life.  The thing is that if we don’t make the choices we want to see, someone else will end up making those choices for you.

For sometime now I had thought about downsizing but didn’t do anything about it.  Circumstances here made the choice for me and now I find myself in a situation I wouldn’t have been in at all.

It would have been a whole lot easier, if I’d made this decision a few years ago, but that is neither here nor now.  Now is what I’m dealing with and we can never go back.  However the lesson learned is that: for better or worse what we do today will effect our lives in the future.

We cannot choose how many years we will live, but we can choose how much life those years will have. We cannot control the beauty of our face, but we can control the expression on it. We cannot control life's difficult moments but we can choose to make life less difficult. We cannot control the negative atmosphere of the world, but we can control the atmosphere of our minds. Too often we try to choose and control things we cannot. Too seldom we choose to control what we can … our attitude.

John Maxwell

There is no sense in wasting time regretting the past. Today is what matters and I for one try to do better with each new day.  To learn from the past in order to grow.  Every new day is another chance to change your life.  Every great accomplishment starts with the decision to try.  Trust that little voice inside your head that says, What if… and then do it.

This year I’m going to try and remember that some of the best opportunities we’ll ever get are ones we find when we are looking for something else.

Opportunities are like sunrises. If you wait too long, you miss them.

You have such a great attitude, Ma, about the changes happening in your life. I know its been an uphill battle with the downsizing, but even that seems to be coming to an end. We do need to take the opportunity every day to try to make it the best day we have for we will never have this particular day again in our lives.

This one says a lot. I think THE AVERAGE American knows they have too much STUFF. For some reason as life is happening, we fill up every 'empty' space with something, because we have 'room'.
Downsizing is actually simple to do, but hard to 'MAKE THAT DECISION'. The decision is harder than the actual DOING. Or that is what we found to be true. (But one advantage (or disadvantage)we had, was that we had not lived in one place over 4 years or so. So we automatically downsized some ever 4-6 years.

But in reality, one is usually forced to 'downsize', seldom is it simply voluntary.

I love how you opened your post. The words ring true for me. I have to start over with a black mark against my name because of something that happened to me unexpectedly and can be easily misunderstood if all the facts were not told. So this rings true to me today. "Pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again."

How powerful to accept the lessons life hands us, then learn from them and (hopefully) take action. Any action.
