Chapter 7, Page 9, Book 16

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

Russell Baker

July 10th -The lazy, hazy Dog Days of summer are upon us.

dog days:  the sultry part of the summer, supposed to occur during the period that Sirius, the Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun: now often reckoned from July 3 to August 11. a period marked by lethargy, inactivity, or indolence.

We all look forward to the lazy days of summer, but when the heat and humidity hit us, we are zapped of energy and we find relief in our air conditioned homes and offices.  Many begin to look forward to fall.

Lately, my energy is stifled and I’m feeling downright lazy. Every year around this time, I tend to have a dampened spirit and even less motivation than usual.

When you have zero enthusiasm, taking a first step is daunting, but sometimes we must take that step.  I simply cannot just sit around and do nothing except sip on my glass of iced tea or lemonade.   I make lots of excuses because it’s too hot.  But then again I made the same excuses in February when it was too cold.

Deep summer is when laziness finds respectability.

Sam Keen

Hot weather has a draining effect on people and creates feelings of tiredness to even laziness. Many of us, myself included, think, It's just too hot to do anything.  Maybe it’s just good to do nothing and sit awhile on the porch.  After all the busy days will return and I for one want to be ready for them.

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time.

John Lubbock

Since we are still getting used to the heat, we are being lazy at times. I think once fall comes we will feel more like getting out and exploring. For now, a little extra rest is a good thing.

those dog days of summer are getting to all of us. it's the heat. i think a little laziness is in order. so get a good book, a glass of lemonade and relax.

DH and I've noticed our pups have become more lethargic ... napping often, consuming less and drinking lots of water.
Methinks their master and mistress could take a lesson!

Yep, John Lubbock has it there!

Take another sip of lemonade!

I like the excuses statement, whether summer or winter! haha
