Chapter 7, Page 20, Book 16

One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.

Bryant H. McGill

July 20th - listen

Courage is what it takes to stand up and speak; courage is also what it takes to sit down and listen.

Winston Churchill

Today we are so busy and in such a hurry, with so many problems, some of which are unimportant, that we lack the capacity to listen. We are constantly busy and thus we don’t have time to listen. To be heard, to be truly listened to, is a gift of love. We all yearn to be understood, to be known by another.

It seems so simple, so obvious, and yet how rarely this precious gift is given to another. Listening is perhaps the most important gift of all that we can give.

Were we as eloquent as angels we still would please people much more by listening rather than talking.

Charles Caleb Colton

Listening is hard work. Countless thoughts interrupt our focus, distracting us and blocking our understanding of one another. All too often, we are more interested in expressing our thoughts, than in hearing someone else’s. Listen more and talk less and see how your relationships change for the better. Listening breathes life into people and relationships.

Taking time to listen is a gift we can give day after day, every day.

It is a gift to our spouse, a gift to our children, a gift to a friend, a gift to someone we work with, a gift to our neighbor, and a gift to the stranger on the street or the check out person in the store.

Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening when you'd have preferred to talk.

Doug Larson

May your home always be too small to hold all your friends.
And may the blessings of each day be the blessings you need most.

This one I am working on. Being deaf for so many years, I talked to keep from listening. Now I am trying to rectify that. I noticed the other day a person who was deaf and now hears thru the Cochlear implant wrote a book, "IT IS A NOISY WORLD", BOY is she right! LOL I had forgotten all the night sounds, for one thing. LOL

There is an art in being able to be a good listener. It does take practice but one can change from not listening to listening and really observing what someone is saying through not only their words, but their actions, etc. I think that's why God gave us 2 ears to listen and 1 mouth to speak :)

Being a good listener is a valuable trait to foster.

This one is a keeper. "Wisdom is the reward you get for a lifetime of listening."
