Chapter 5, Page 1, Book 16

It is easy enough to be pleasant,
When life flows by like a song,
But the man worth while is one who will smile,
When everything goes dead wrong.
For the test of the heart is trouble,
And it always comes with the years,
And the smile that is worth the praises of earth
Is the smile that shines through tears.

It is easy enough to be prudent,
When nothing tempts you to stray,
When without or within no voice of sin
Is luring your soul away;
But it's only a negative virtue
Until it is tried by fire,
And the life that is worth the honor of earth
Is the one that resists desire.

By the cynic, the sad, the fallen,
Who had no strength for the strife,
The world's highway is cumbered to-day;
They make up the sum of life.
But the virtue that conquers passion,
And the sorrow that hides in a smile,
It is these that are worth the homage on earth
For we find them but once in a while.

May 1st - Grin and bear it

It hurts when you have to smile and you don't want to smile, but the best thing to do is to smile.

Mary J. Blige

Smiling is a powerful gesture. It can increase your happiness, and it can make people around you feel good. But sometimes smiling is the last thing you want to do. There are even times when a smile feels close to impossible. It might be a tough day at work, or being caught in the midst of family drama that's causing your face to be uncooperative. Smiling is good for you, but it's not always easy.

Most people don't realize that smiling is not only the product of feeling good, but smiling can actually cause us to feel better.    A number of people will say that they find it hard to smile due to circumstances in their life. Research has shown that our thoughts and feelings influence our behaviors.  When you feel like crying, I encourage you to close your eyes and think of the moments that have made you laugh and smile.

When you’re smiling, no doubt you’re having a much better time than when you’re not! Smiling simply makes you feel better!

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

I can sure attest to the fact, the act of smiling DOES improve your mood! No matter what else is going on in my life, when I approach my workplace I'm expected to smile. No-one wants to see or interact with a sourpuss; in particular, our guests.

I like the advice of thinking of things that make us happy and try to snile especially during times when we might want to cry instead.

It is important at times to grin and bear it. But "smiling shines through tears."
