It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.

Chapter 1, Page 1, Book 16

God grant us this year a wider view,

so we see others' faults through the eyes of You.

Teach us to judge not with hasty tongue,

neither the adult ... nor the young.

Give us patience and grace to endure

and a stronger faith so we feel secure;

and instead of remembering, help us forget

the irritations that caused us to fret.

Freely forgiving for some offense

and finding each day a rich recompense,

in offering a friendly, helping hand

and trying in all ways to understand,

that all of us whoever we are ...

Are trying to reach 'an unreachable star'.

For the great and small ... the good and bad,

the young and old ... the sad and glad,

are asking today, 'Is life worth living?'

And the answer is only in loving and giving.

For only Love can make mankind

and Kindness of Heart brings Peace of Mind,

and by giving love we can start this year

to lift the clouds of hate and fear.

 Helen Steiner Rice

January 1st — how sweet it is.

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

T.S. Eliot

Thinking about 2016 made me think of Sweet 16 and so my perfect word for this year is SWEET!

Life is sweet, you are sweet, I have a lot of sweeties and it’s going to be a sweet 2016!

How sweet it is!
Jackie Gleason

The more we focus on what is good and right in our lives and in the world, the better and sweeter life is.   Research says that people who appreciate where their bread is buttered and how sweet the jam on their toast is, are healthier, they live longer, they’re usually more successful , and for sure, other people want to spend more time around them.

When life is sweet, say thank you and celebrate. And when life is bitter, say thank you and grow.

Shauna Niequist

We need to stay open to the reasons for happiness all around us. There’s a mountain of evidence that life is sweet, if we’ll just stop to look at it

What shall I wish thee?
Treasures of earth?
Songs in the springtime,
Pleasure and mirth?
Flowers on thy pathway,
Skies ever clear?
Would this ensure thee
A Happy New Year?

What shall I wish thee?
What can be found
Bringing thee sunshine
All the year round?
Lasting and dear,
That shall ensure thee
A Happy New Year.

Faith that increaseth,
Walking in light;
Hope that aboundeth,
Happy and bright;
Love that is perfect,
Casting out fear;
These shall insure thee
A Happy New Year.

Frances Ridley Havergal, A Happy New Year

 The new year 2016 is going to be sweet one !

We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year's Day.

I like the last quote; all were great, but we do have a new book here to write in the days ahead of 2016 :) Sweet is a wonderful word for the year, Ma! So true with Sweet 16; imagine we are here already in the year 2016; I remember 2000 so vividly :)

May it be a great year!
