Chapter 1, Page 31, Book 15

January 31st - worthy of love

Our job is to love others without stopping to inquire whether or not they are worthy. That is not our business and, in fact, it is nobody's business. What we are asked to do is to love, and this love itself will render both ourselves and our neighbors worthy if anything can.

Thomas Merton

Loving and respecting others means allowing them to be themselves.  When you stop expecting people to be a certain way, you can begin to appreciate them more. Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle, just like you.

Remember that people rarely behave exactly the way you want them to.  Hope for the best, but expect less.  Everyone dislikes being judged, criticized, and rejected as unworthy. We all want to be loved, appreciated and respected. Judging others makes us blind, whereas love is illuminating.

We can judge others or we can love others -
but we can't do both at the same time.

Author Unknown

By forgiving ourselves and others, we clear away barriers to giving and receiving love. Love is the most powerful force that exists. Add love to forgiveness and you have a very, very powerful combination.

You're imperfect, and you're wired for struggle, but you are worthy of love and belonging.

Chapter 1, Page 30, Book 15

January 30th

Absence sharpens love, presence strengthens it.

Thomas Fuller

There is a saying that absence makes the heart grow fonder and there is another adage that says, out of sight, out of mind.  It's kind of like you don't know what you have until it's gone. In your absence the person you love will understand how much you mean to them and the void you leave behind.

For two who are close in heart and mind . . . the miles that
separate them are no more than inches.

It applys to friendship and also relationship.  I believe that having a chance to miss each other teaches us important lessons..  Avoiding taking each other for granted can be hard, but it is crucial.  I think absence helps keep the gratitude for that person alive and kicking.  Reuniting is always exciting and special.

The times we do spend together strengthen our love for family and friends.  We build relationships by being present in each others lives.  I can never outdo the joys and  benefits of sharing time and space with those I love.

Life is a matter of passing the time enjoyably. There may be other
things in life, but I've been too busy passing my time enjoyably
to think very deeply about them.

Chapter 1, Page 29, Book 15

January 29th - Sincere love

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Romans 12:9

This is a good verse to live by.  Sincere love must be free from deceit, and unmeaning and deceitful compliments and have peaceable conduct towards all men, with forbearance and benevolence.  Our love should  not be seeking our own credit or profit, but the good of many.  It must be genuine - the real thing.

To be sincere is having or showing true feelings that are expessesd in an honest way. : genuine or real : not false, fake, or pretended.  Sincerity of feeling, intent and presentation touches the hearts of everyone. Do things out of the goodness of your heart; don't seek a reward or do things to acquire things from people. When you give without expecting the boomerang effect to occur, the giving becomes an act of sincerity and an expression of your genuine concern for and interest in others

Sincere love is a commitment to do good to someone else, to make them a priority, the focus of our attention. The good news is that when you show an interest in others and the things that are important to them, they will show an interest in you and the things that are important to you!

I do hope you all aren’t sick of reading about my topic for the year - LOVE.   There are so many quotes, poems and stories to share on the subject that I don’t think I’m going to run out.  It seems every other article I read seems to have something to do with love or the lack of it these days.

Sincerely Yours
xoxo

Life is just a short walk
from the cradle to the grave,
and it sure behooves us to be kind
to one another along the way.

Chapter 1, Page 28, Book 15

Smiles

Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner,
And someone saw my grin,
When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
Then realized its worth,
A single smile, just like mine,
Could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
Don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
And get the world infected.

 Author Unknown

January 28th - Love is what makes you smile when you're tired.

Some days, it’s easy to smile. You wake up to the sounds of birds chirping, with the warm glow of the morning sun cradling your face.  Some days we have all we can do to get out of bed and start another day.  But love makes us get up and go to work, or fix breakfast, or clean house.

Blow me a kiss from across the room. Say I look nice when I'm not. Touch my hair as you pass my chair. Little things mean a lot….

These little things, be they gestures, actions, or words, are the many small things that we do every day and that naturally express our heart. They are not the result of calculations or intentions, but are rather spontaneous expressions of what we feel moved to do.

It may mean caring for an elderly parent, being patient with a difficult child or a wearisome neighbor, or working faithfully at our everyday tasks.  We do a lot of things for love even though we’re dead tired.  And the nice thing is that it leaves us with a smile on our face.

I think it's important to find the little things in everyday life that make you happy.

Paula Cole
Love is closely associated with happiness, and it is no wonder that small gestures can elicit great happiness. Continued happiness does not come from occasional grand achievements, but from the little things that fill our daily lives and make us smile.

When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.

For January 27th, 2015

January 27th - love lost

I hold it true, whateer befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.

Alfred Lord Tennyson

I’m going to use myself as an example today.  I’ve loved and lost but I don’t regret any of the love I’ve given or received in my life.  How can love be anything but great!

I’ve loved lots of things and lots of people.  I can remember my first love, the puppy love of a teenager.  I remember falling in love only to find out that my love wasn’t returned to.

I loved a man and married him.  He died over 20 years ago, but I’ll never regret falling in love with him.

A life with love must have some thorns,
but a life with no love will have no roses.

 Author Unknown

I love my children.  As they grew up and found their own loves and ways of life, I had to let them go.

I found myself some very good and loving friends along the way too.  Some of those friends were only in my life for a short time, and some proved themselves long lasting friends that are still mine to love today.

No matter what we go through, I’d have to say, YES, it is better to have loved and lost, than never to love at all.

There is no better feeling than love.

Chapter 1, Page 26, Book 15

January 26th - Love is in season

To everything there is a season, and time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted; A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak; A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace

The Bible

They say that when the weather warms up, instead of wind chill, it’s love that's in the air. Spring time blossoms and so does love.  Forget the birds and the bees. Skunks reek of love, at least during January and February. It's their mating season, when love is in the air. Oh dear !

It seems impossible that this is now the last week of January and next week we’ll find out what the Ground Hog has to say about what’s left of winter.

To me there is always season and time for love.  It doesn’t need a special season.  Time may fly by,  but it’s never a bad time to take the time to love.

We can choose to put more love into our encounters with those who are close to us and, and even with those who are not. Any time we take to show love is the right time.

There are some people who show love by doing, by making things, creating projects or engaging in small acts of kindness, and others who show and want to receive love through being, snuggling, doing mundane activities together, just spending time in the other’s presence.

I think that we’ve all got to be a bit of both to find that balance between doing and being

Take Time

Take time to laugh
It is the music of the soul.

Take time to think
It is the source of power.

Take time to play
It is the source of perpetual youth.

Take time to read
It is the fountain of wisdom.

Take time to pray
It is the greatest power on earth.

Take time to be friendly
It is the road to happiness.

Take time to give
It is too short a day to be selfish.

Take time to work
It is the price of success.

Take time to love and be loved
It is a God-given privilege.

Chapter 1, Page 25, Book 15

January 25th - Love lightens the load

Love carries through many difficulties easily and makes heavy burdens light.

John Cotton Jr.

Love lightens every load. When we love people, we want to do what love requires. And even if there are difficulties involved, love makes us eager to respond anyway.  We can endure almost anything if we have someone at our side who truly loves us, who is easing the burden and lightening the load. Love does that, it lightens every load and makes us eager to help, even at great cost.  It moves us to be generous, kind, merciful, patient and even extravagant. AND, we don’t do what we do because we have to, but because we want to.

In order to maximize your life and relationships, you also have to minimize your load. We must focus on what's important when it comes to our relationships.  Sometimes lightening our load means knowing when to release things. We can move ahead and conserve our strength for things that count, like the people in our lives.

We can easily manage if we will only take, each day, the burden appointed to it. But the load will be too heavy for us if we carry yesterday's burden over again today, and then add the burden of the morrow before we are required to bear it.

THE MAGIC OF LOVE

Love is like magic
And it always will be.
For love still remains
Life's sweet mystery!!
Love works in ways
That are wondrous and strange
And there's nothing in life
That love cannot change!!
Love can transform
The most commonplace
Into beauty and splendor
And sweetness and grace.
Love is unselfish,
Understanding and kind,
For it sees with its heart
And not with its mind!!
Love is the answer
That everyone seeks...
Love is the language,
That every heart speaks.
Love can't be bought,
It is priceless and free,
Love, like pure magic,
Is life's sweet mystery!!
 Helen Steiner Rice

January 24th - Love is magic

Love is the magician that pulls man out of his own hat.

Ben Hecht

Falling in love can feel like magic. It is the glue that holds us together; emotionally connecting us to everything that we do with passion and with all of our heart.

It makes pain tolerable. It makes shame and guilt overcomable. It makes peace instead of war. It makes grief heal more quickly. It makes suffering tolerable. It makes loneliness flee. It makes life beautiful.

Love is magic because it makes hard things easy.

Living in the wonder gives you forever eyes, and forever eyes, looking at everything from God’s perspective, really reduces your stress.  I hope each and every one of us has witnessed the magic of love. Love comes in many shapes, sizes and situations.

Real magic in relationships means an absence of judgment of others.

Wayne Dyer

Chapter 1, Page 23, Book 15

January 23rd - loving friends

Love is friendship that has caught fire. It is quiet understanding, mutual confidence, sharing and forgiving. It is loyalty through good and bad times. It settles for less than perfection and makes allowances for human weaknesses.

Ann Landers

A fair weather friend flatters you when the sun is shining and the birds are chirping.  A true friend, on the other hand, always has your very best interests at heart

True friends love and appreciate each other just the way they are.

When you come out the other side of a difficult period in your life, look around you.  The people still standing beside you are your true friends.

Beware of friends who try to belittle your ambitions.  Small hearts and minds always do that.  The greatest hearts and minds, the people you should spend time around,  make you feel that you, too, can become great

Don’t look for a friend who will solve all your problems; look for one who will face them with you

Love given reflects love received.

A true friend who understands your tears and troubles is far more valuable than a hundred friends who only show up for your smiles and joys.  Because a true friend accepts who you truly are, and also helps you become who you are capable of being.

A true friend never holds the unchangeable past against you; instead, they help your repair your present and future.

Friends are God's way of taking care of us.

Chapter 1, Page 22, Book 15

January 22nd - Love vs. fear

Love is what we were born with. Fear is what we learned here. The spiritual journey is the relinquishment, or unlearning, of fear and the acceptance of love back into our hearts.

Marianne Williamson

Love is said to be the greatest protection from fear, the best armor .

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

 1 John 4:18

When I am fearful I am less grateful and that I am less open to options. I don’t see as clearly when I am fearful. When fear is removed, we can operate in the spirit of love. We have the ability to love the unlovable. We can even love our enemies.

While we are focusing on fear, worry, or hate, it is not possible for us to be experiencing happiness, enthusiasm or love.

Bo Bennett

If there is any fear in the love you seek or the love you give, it is not real Love at all, but an emotional barter game. Love has to be freely and unconditionally given away, or it is not really Love.

Fear is just your feelings asking for a hug.

Danielle Sanchez

Love without expectation.  Don’t let fear get in your way.

a prayer attributed to St. Thomas More:

Grant me, O Lord, good digestion, and also something to digest.  Grant me a healthy body, and the necessary good humour to maintain it.  Grant me a simple soul that knows to treasure all that is good and that doesn’t frighten easily at the sight of evil, but rather finds the means to put things back in their place.  Give me a soul that knows not boredom, grumbling, sighs and laments, nor excess of stress, because of that obstructing thing called ‘I’.  Grant me, O Lord, a sense of good humour.  Allow me the grace to be able to take a joke and to discover in life a bit of joy, and to be able to share it with others.

Chapter 1, Page 21, Book 15

January 21st - the gift of love

Love is a gift. You can't buy it, you can't find it, someone has to give it to you. Learn to be receptive of that gift.

Kurt Langner

Falling in love.  The beauty of it all is this is that there are many benefits to falling in love with as many things as possible.

When you are a loving person, your relationships are sweeter.

When you are a loving person, people are drawn to you.

When you are a loving person, you’re happier.

When you are a loving person, it’s harder to shake your world.

The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance.

 Brian Tracy

Love is a very powerful, beautiful thing. It’s something that we take for granted as much as we do the air we breathe.  Of course, we couldn’t live without air, whereas I suppose we could live without love.  It’d be more like existing than living, though.  Big difference.

Gifts are an expression of love that begins with the gift of life itself

January 20th - love the moment

Love is a choice you make from moment to moment.

Barbara De Angelis

Life unfolds in the present. But so often, we let the present slip away, allowing time to rush past unobserved and unseized, and squandering the precious seconds of our lives as we worry about the future and ruminate about what's past.

To avoid worrying about the future, focus on the present.  Savor every moment.

Happiness, not in another place but this place...not for another hour, but this hour.

Walt Whitman

When we concentrate our attention on the present we focus on the task at hand. We give our full attention to what we are doing and we let go of outcomes.   To make every moment count we must embrace it. Everything we do and every person we come in contact with deserves our full attention.

The smallest things can be so wonderful when you're living in the moment and taking them in rather than just taking life for granted. We need to know that every moment we spend doing anything is a choice and a
ll that we do on a moment by moment basis combines to influence the way our life unfolds

Today me will live in the moment unless it's unpleasant, in which case me will eat a cookie.

Chapter 1, Page 19, Book 15

Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile.

Franklin P. Jones

Sometimes it seems as if life were a merry go round ride. Only, something is out of whack and the ride has suddenly started moving a little too fast. The colors blur together. The music is too loud. The gentle ups and downs feel more like serious plunges and crests.

The ride isn’t what we bargained for. But we can’t seem to find a way to slow down or get off. It’s in the moments when we realize we’re on the ride, and that it’s getting overwhelming, that we can take action.

Obviously the daily grind can feel like an endless circle of movement that never seems to have an end. But hopefully when you are able to slow down you will see things a little more clearly.

You don’t really understand human nature unless you know why a child on a merry go round will wave at his parents every time around – and why his parents will always wave back.

William D. Tammeus

A child delights in going  up and down, the playful music playing and the game of seeking to find pleasure in those who love him. His parents delight in all things that make their children filled with joy ! The love goes round and round.

If I had my life to live over, I would start barefoot earlier in the spring and stay that way later in the fall. I would go to more dances. I would ride more merry go rounds. I would pick more daisies.

Nadine Stair

On the merry go round of life, we climb up and hold on with all our might, knowing that a moment of distraction could lead to injury or worse. We enjoy the highs, manage the hurts and in many cases, offer the rest to the Creator with a knowing that all is well. We do gain and lose things in life and the hope is that at the end, it all balances out.  Enjoy the life you have.

With all the thousands of pictures and graphics that I do have I couldn't find any of merry go rounds.  Unbelievable but true.

Life is like a merry go round. You can either whine or find wonder and love the ride

Chapter 1, Page 18, Book 15

Amazing grace! how sweet the sound
That sav'd a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found,
Was blind, but now I see.

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears reliev'd;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believ'd!

Thro' many dangers, toils, and snares,
I have already come;
'Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

John Newton

January 18th -  Love is grace

God's grace is the oil that fills the lamp of love.

Henry W. Beecher

When we speak of God's grace, we mean all the good gifts we enjoy freely in life.  Grace is an undeserved free gift, undeserved favor, and undeserved love

God's grace is an active thing, not merely cutting us slack and granting us mercy, but working in our hearts and lives for good.  Grace means favor or goodwill. Grace is the kindness and love shown to one another.

We often say, I would likely have experienced or done the same bad thing if God had not been watching over me.  By the grace of God, things worked out.  Grace is the expression of divine love.

Grace is the easiest thing in the world to receive and I believe we are to use this gift when we see an opportunity to love others.  The amazing thing about this kind of love is its reciprocation. You can’t bestow love on anyone without reaping the benefits of that love for yourself. It doesn’t matter whether the one receiving it reciprocates it or not, for in essence in discovering how to love others we learn how to love ourselves.

Gifts That We Can Pass On to Others:

THE GIFT OF LISTENING

You must REALLY listen.  No interrupting, no daydreaming, no planning your response.  Just listening.

THE GIFT OF A COMPLIMENT

A simple and sincere,  You look great in red, or You did a super job or That was a wonderful meal, can make someone's day.

THE GIFT OF AFFECTION

Be generous with appropriate hugs, kisses, pats on the back and handholds.  Let these small actions demonstrate the love you have for family and friends.

THE GIFT OF A CHEERFUL DISPOSITION

The easiest way to feel good is to extend a kind word to someone; really, it's not that hard to say Hello or Thank You.

THE GIFT OF LAUGHTER

Clip cartoons.  Share articles and funny stories.  Your gift will say, I love to laugh with you.

THE GIFT OF KINDNESS

Every day, go out of your way to do something kind.

THE GIFT OF A WRITTEN NOTE

It can be a simple Thanks for the help note or a full sonnet.  A brief, handwritten note may be remembered for a lifetime, and may even change a life.

THE GIFT OF SOLITUDE

There are times when we want nothing more than to be left alone.  Be sensitive to those times and give the gift of solitude to others.

THE GIFT OF ENCOURAGEMENT

It costs nothing, it's easy to pass on, and its effects can be truly magical.  Find some aspect of another person's life in which he or she could use an encouraging word or three, and pass it on!

It is a challenge to extend grace to others when they have created their own troubles!

Love is my decision to make your problem my problem.

Chapter 1, Page 17, Book 15

January 17th - The more you give, the more you love.

The cure for all the ills and wrongs, the cares, the sorrows, and crimes of humanity, all lie in that one word  love.  It is the divine vitality that produces and restores life. To each and every one of us it gives the power of working miracles, if we will.

Lydia M. Child

The heart of the matter is that it is
the heart that matters.

Love is important for the health of your heart, body, mind and soul. They say that love is a great antidote to stress. Love decreases anxiety and staves off depression, which even reduces the signs and symptoms of heart disease.  Love decreases inflammation, improves your immune system, and can be a potent pain reliever.

It is important to remind yourself that there is so much more to love than just romantic love. There is love of life, love of nature, love of animals, love of others, and love of self, and all of these acts of love also provide amazing health benefits.

Years ago I learned that taking a walk is a good way to remove stress.  Just being outside and looking at nature is relaxing.  We had a slight raise in temps here this week and after being inside so many days, I got brave and went for a walk.  There were still many slippery spots and the going was slow, but it did improve my outlook.  I’m not a big fan of winter, but a good airing out really helps.

Eventually you will come to realize that love heals everything, and love is all there is.

Chapter 1, Page 16, Book 15

What we once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, For all that we love deeply becomes a part of us.

 Helen Keller

January 16th - Love never dies

Those we love remain with us for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade because a loved one’s gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart. For as long there is a memory, they’ll live on in our hearts.

Author Unknown

I do believe that we never really lose those we love, because we keep them close to us in our hearts. Those we love and lose are always connected by heartstrings into infinity

I think that’s what happiness and living is about. Cherishing the precious moments you can hold onto for a lifetime.  Love will always live on and I’ve learned to hold onto moments.   I know happiness, because I know what sadness is. The faster we learn to be grateful and love, the happier our lives will be.

Remembering the past can bring hope to the present.

Chapter 1, Page 15, Book 15

January 15th - To know you is to love you

For every beauty there is an eye somewhere to see it.

For every truth there is an ear somewhere to hear it.
For every love there is a heart somewhere to receive it.

Ivan Panin

We all had to experience a lot of different things in order to get to the point in our lives that we are today.  We were born knowing little of anything.  We had to learn what love was.  To know what it was about in order to give it and receive it.

We had to try out a lot of different foods in order to know if we loved them or not.  I’ve read a lot of books but I know I haven’t loved all of them.

No matter how long we may live, we’ll never stop learning. Every minute of every day brings new opportunities to learn something we've never known before.

There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice.

F. Scott Fitzgerald

I know a few things about love:

Love doesn’t hurt. If it hurts it’s something else. Fear. Attachment. Idolatry. Addiction. Possessiveness.

Jealousy isn’t love, nor is it evidence of love. Jealousy is fear. Love doesn’t drive people mad, it drives them sane.

If you say you Love someone because of what they can give you, that’s not Love, that’s selfishness.

Love is letting go because no one feels loved when they are controlled or manipulated.

Love is a sharing a circle of close friends who are generous, faithful and attentive.

Love is a lifetime of shared experiences that continually redefines what love is.

We can only love what we know, and we can never know completely what we do not love. Love is a mode of knowledge…

Aldous Huxley

Chapter 1, Page 14, Book 15

The love in your heart wasn’t put there to stay
Love isn’t love til it’s given away

January 14th -  Loving Kindness

Kindness matters !  Two words, kindness matters, so powerful, so true and yet, so easily forgotten.  Loving Kindness is good for you: it makes you feel happy, less focused on yourself, more connected to others and all of those things are good for your physical and emotional health.

A warm smile is the universal language of kindness.

William Arthur Ward

Loving Kindness  has to be some of the most beautiful words in the English language. It sounds beautiful; more importantly it carries some beautiful messages.  Loving kindness is an aspect of the caring feelings we can have in life that includes feelings of goodwill, benevolence, unselfish friendliness, and love

Love and kindness are never wasted. They always make a difference. They bless the one who receives them, and they bless you, the giver.

Barbara de Angelis

If we act in a kind way, it may seem that we are putting someone else’s happiness ahead of ours, but in practice it doesn’t work that way. Being kind invariably feels good, lifts our own spirits, and nourishes us in ways that we don’t always acknowledge. Everyone benefits.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

At the end of the day, what matters most are the people in our lives. Put them first every single day. Before work. Before the computer. Before your hobbies. Treat them like they are everything to you. Because they are

We need to be the change we want to see.  Love fearlessly and without limits.  No act of love or kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.  The best part of life is not just surviving, but thriving with passion, compassion, humor, generosity, and kindness, and using these tools to improve the lives of those around you.

Smile, and help others smile too.

Sure, not every day will be good, but there will always be something good about every day

Better three hours too soon than a minute too late.
William Shakespeare
