Chapter 12, Page 18, Book 15

The best of all gifts around any Christmas tree: the presence of a happy family all wrapped up in each other.

December 18 - be present, being loved

Your children know you love them by your presence, not your presents.

I think we all need the presence of those we love a lot more than we need their presents.  It’s nice to get a gift, but to be able to spend time with our loved ones is something I prize much more.

It seems to me that our best memories typically include the presence of others, the presence of love and connection. We don’t remember Snapchats or Facebook posts. Our memories are not littered with status updates or tweets or that perfectly styled Instagram pic. We remember the aftermath, the moments when our lives stop being lived out for the eyes of others and are, instead, lived in the presence of the people in front of us.

It is important to be a constant, loving presence in the life of another.  Each of us has known someone in our life that has been a constant, loving presence.  They create an awareness of goodness and unconditional love.  We can't give presence without taking the time out of our lives to give to others.

When you spend time together, you strengthen bonds that will last throughout the years.

Presence is more than just being there

I remember that saying the best thing you can give is your time and that is so true, presence over presents and time really spent with someone, not distracted by the TV or chores, etc., but just time spent with a loved one is so very worth it!

There is an art to "being here" and the payoff is huge.
