Thanksgiving Day is a jewel, to set in the hearts of honest men; but be careful that you do not take the day, and leave out the gratitude.
November 26th - gratitude is an expression of love
When autumn darkness falls, what we will remember are the small acts of kindness: a cake, a hug, an invitation to talk, and every single rose. These are all expressions of a nation coming together and caring about its people.
It has been pointed out that I love people by feeding them. This is true. It is also true that I'm certainly not finished loving people,
Food can be a form of love. Chopping, mixing, simmering are like rituals with the end result being its own kind of offering. All the care you put into your cooking adds another nutrient, up there with protein and antioxidants, and is just as essential. After all, none of us can truly thrive without love in our lives.
Love - the secret ingredient
I believe that tender love and care is the secret ingredient when it comes to food and to life. Pour love into your cooking and it will always taste better. Spread love through food! The greatest gift you can give to anyone is the giving of yourself.
Don't fret over the perfection of the meal. No one will remember if the turkey was dry, or the gravy came out of a jar, if a side dish was left off the menu, or if the pie came from the store, not straight out of the oven. Focus instead on the people around the table, on the victories of the past year, and adversities overcome.
I hope you all have a Happy Thanksgiving!
