Chapter 11, Page 12, Book 15

The world needs more warm hearts and fewer hot heads.

To err is human; to forgive, divine.

Alexander Pope

November 12th - only human

Scandals, like gossip, create news, headlines, and are the patter of talk shows. Politicians and entertainers cause the public concern with their dress, their lifestyle, or their secrets. Indeed, scandal not only drives public opinion. It can increase profits for media and visibility for publicity hungry.

Scandal is a two edged sword. We can be scandalized by the acts of others. Or we can cause scandal by our actions. Even the act of being scandalized can cause scandal. Obviously we cannot control others, but we can be responsible for our own acts.

Grace: Getting what we don’t deserve.

Mercy: Not getting what we do deserve.

Grace is outrageous and scandalous. By grace, God loves all, forgives all, and accepts all, with no conditions, no strings attached, no fine print, no qualifications, no limits, and no ongoing requirements.

Grace, by definition, is unmerited. There is nothing that can be done or not done to earn or merit or deserve grace.  That is what makes it scandalous.

Maybe we all could be a little scandalous ourselves this week.  Remembering to err is human, to forgive is devine.   We respond by loving others in the same way.

Happiness is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.

Denis Waitley

That is a good thought about grace being scandalous. Hadn't thought of it like that before. I do agree to forgive and to treat others like we would want to be treated. Sometimes scandalous living is a good thing.

You said it again! Thanks... Good thoughts. I hate it that scandal and terror drives the gossip world. And we call it news. (sigh)

It's easy to get swept up in gossip. I think gossip actually fueled some of the offices where I worked. I tried to steer clear, but I found my self edging closers at times to people spreading rumors so I could hear better.i know it isn't right, but unless I'm vigilant, I do it without thinking.
