Chapter 8, Page 6, Book 15

Meanings

Standing for what you believe in,
Regardless of the odds against you,
and the pressure that tears at your resistance,
... means courage.

Keeping a smile on your face,
When inside you feel like dying,
For the sake of supporting others,
... means strength.

Stopping at nothing,
And doing what's in your heart,
You know is right,
... means determination.

Doing more than is expected,
To make another's life a little more bearable,
Without uttering a single complaint,
... means compassion.

Helping a friend in need,
No matter the time or effort,
To the best of your ability,
... means loyalty.

Giving more than you have,
And expecting nothing,
But nothing in return,
... means selflessness.

Holding your head high,
And being the best you know you can be,
When life seems to fall apart at your feet,
Facing each difficulty with the confidence,
That time will bring you better tomorrows,
And never giving up,
... means confidence.

August 6th - what love means

So much of what is best in us is bound up in our love of family, that it remains the measure of our stability because it measures our sense of loyalty.

Haniel Long

Loyalty is faithfulness or a devotion to a person, country, group, or a cause.  To be loyal its a free choice and not an obligation. We choose to whom we are loyal or not.

You must be willing to allow your own interests to take second place to be truly loyal to another person or cause.  A truly loyal person will be loyal because they want to.  If you are faithful and devoted to someone or something, you're loyal.

The world, we'd discovered, doesn't love you like your family loves you.

 Louis Zamperini

We live in a world where selfishness seems to be the rule of the day, and personal gain the objective of most relationships and endeavors.  In a world where most relationships are about what we can get, let us be the type of friends who focus on what we can give.

Our life is too precious to waste on negativity, on complaining and worrying, on resentment, on anger.

The glory of life is to love, not to be loved; to give, not to get; to serve, not to be served.

The love of family and the admiration of friends is much more important than wealth and privilege.

Charles Kuralt

I liked that Meanings poem. It is so true there is a lot of selfishness in the world. It is good to find a loyal person and to call them a friend!

Loyalty is definitely not a character flaw.
Oh I thought of you and Ohio, seeing all this corn growing in the fields. It sure makes a pleasant journey.
