It takes hands to build a house, but only hearts can build a home.

Chapter 7, Page 31, Book 14

Life is like a game of cards. The hand that is dealt you represents determinism; the way you play it is free will.

Jawaharlal Nehru

This is an interesting quote, in that it attempts to place both determinism and free will in play simultaneously. It's not about what you've been dealt, but what cards you choose to put down

A deck of cards can represent blessings and trials, worldly goods and eternal treasures. Some have been dealt sickness and job loss, heartache and betrayal. Not all of our cards are losing cards. Look at the rest of your deck. You have cards that can help you win. They are the lowly cards. At first glance, you may not think that they carry a lot of weight, but they do.

Just because Fate doesn't deal you the right cards, it doesn't mean you should give up. It just means you have to play the cards you get to their maximum potential.

Les Brown

The whole game is your life and you have to play with what you are dealt.  All you have to do is know how to play your cards right.  Life is like a deck of cards, you don't know what's next, but as you pick them up and include them in your hand you play them as best you can.

The day that we are born, into this world, we were dealt a hand of cards, of how our life was meant to be. Now we have many choices, some good or bad to take, but what we chose to keep and play, marks the type of life we make.  Sometimes the card picked up seems of little value for the game you are playing. Sometimes it's a nuisance, other times it's a game changer for good or bad.

We have weaknesses, vulnerabilities, and dark sides. Some even have disabilities. But these do not have to doom us. Successful people are those that have learned how to play with the cards they were dealt. They organized their cards, kept their wits, refused to tip their hand, and learned to play a smart hand.

One should always play fair when one has the winning cards.

Oscar Wilde

Chapter 7, Page 30, Book 14

Life is like a landscape. You live in the midst of it but can describe it only from the vantage point of distance.

 Charles Lindbergh

I’ve had the chance to see the view of Ohio from an airplane and it does allow you to see the scape of things for sure.  You can see the gentle hills, the deep valleys the flat lands and the shores of the lake too.  From a distance we see  order and design. What a difference a change in perspective makes !

I like to think of the landscape not as a fixed place but as a path that is unwinding before my eyes, under my feet. To see and know a place is a contemplative act. It means emptying our minds and letting what is there, in all its mulitplicity and endless variety, come in.

Gretel Ehrlich, author

Just like a land scape,  some people see only a tiny part of what our lives look like. But with a wider view they can see what makes us who we are.  In my tiny corner of the world life may not seem very exciting, but when you take in the whole of what it consists of, that is what makes it wonderful.

We are a landscape of all we have seen.

Isamu Noguchi, sculptor and designer of gardens

Chapter 7, Page 29, Book 14

LIFE IS…

Life is Like Weather Patterns. People can be calm, sunny, full of warmth and cheer. Then we can be stormy, cloudy, cold and hurtful.

Life is like the weather, it changes. People change too.  Like the seasons we all have cold and hot days, cloudy and sunny days.

Life is unpredictable, just like the weather.  Our stability rests on something more enduring than the current weather.  Whether or not today is a great day shouldn't depend on the weather.

All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism

Anonymous

Extreme weather teaches us to appreciate the days of warm sunshine.

The weather teaches us that we have no control over life. Since we can't control what happens to us, we ought not let what happens control us.  We have choices, and we are responsible for the choices we make.

Each of us makes his own weather, determines the color of the skies in the emotional universe which he inhabits.

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen

Never judge a day by the weather

Life is a gift we receive, for our joyful experience.  It is very much like the weather.   During these summer days we are enjoying whatever sunshine comes our way. May it always be a reminder of God's incredible generosity towards each of us.

Wherever you go, no matter what the weather, always bring your own sunshine.

Chapter 7, Page 28, Book 14

Life, is like a song. In the beginning there is mystery, in the end there is confirmation, but it's in the middle where all the emotion is to make it worthwhile

Some people dance to meet life, singing something like, Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ay; My, oh my, what a wonderful day. Others drag themselves into life singing something like, Nobody knows the trouble I’ve seen.  It makes a difference what song your heart sings.

A bird does not sing because it has an answer.  It sings because it has a song.

Chinese Proverb

There will be times for singing fun songs or the blues, lament, songs of protest, love songs, and patriotic songs, and lots of other kinds of songs. Life is rich and varied and so is the music of our participation in it when we dare to experience it deeply.

Those who wish to sing always find a song.

Proverb

Each of us chooses what song his or her life is going to sing. And we always make that choice in the absence of any conclusive evidence about which is the right song. A big part of choosing a song is choosing what kind of life we want to live.    Put a song on your heart too whenever you need a quick lift.

A friend knows the song in my heart and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Donna Roberts

Some times we all need someone to remind us of the reasons we have to sing and that’s what good friends are for.

Some days there won't be a song in your heart.  Sing anyway.

Emory Austin

Not every day will make us sing for joy, but joy is in some part of every day….look for it.

Life is a song - sing it.

Chapter 7, Page 26, Book 14

Mirror, mirror on the wall

Mirror, mirror on the wall
Do you have to tell it all?

Where do you get the glaring right
To make my clothes look just too tight?

I think I'm fine but I can see
you won't cooperate with me;

The way you let the shadows play
You'd think my hair was getting gray

What's that, you say? A double chin?
No, that's the way the light comes in;

If you persist in peering so
You'll confiscate my facial glow,

And then if you're not hanging straight
You'll tell me next I'm gaining weight;

I'm really quite upset with you
For giving this distorted view;

I hate you being smug and wise
O, look what's happened to my thighs!

I warn you now, O mirrored wall,
Since we're not on speaking terms at all,

If I look like this in my new jeans
You'll find yourself in smithereens!!

Author Unknown

Do not let yesterdays disappointments overshadow on tomorrows dreams, because your life is like a mirror, if you keep smiling it smiles right back to you.

Have you laughed yet today? For most of us laughter doesn’t come very often, yet the magic it performs on our well being can’t be denied. It helps you enjoy friends and family. It diffuses stressful situations and it allows you the opportunity to keep things in perspective

Mirrors show us what we look like and for me looking in the mirror is often like looking at a stranger.  I don’t always like what I see, but one thing I’ve learned is that when I smile, the image does smile back.

When we smile at life, even when it’s not so good, I think we are showing our best side.  The side of us where hope lives and where nothing is so terrible that we can’t find our way through it with a little help from our good Lord.

Time moves on and  believing that this too will pass and there will be better times coming is a way of life for me.  I am not denying that bad things can happen, but with a little perspective, we can see our way through it all.

Remember:

Trust is like a mirror you can fix it if broken but still see the cracks in that reflection

Don't waste your time looking back on what you've lost.  Our relationships with people are like mirrors. During the good times, what we see is clear. We see one clear picture. But once the relationships starts to crack, it cracks. Sometimes it is just a little piece that breaks off and sometimes the whole thing falls to pieces. When it breaks we can try fix it but it’s never going to be the same. As hard as we try to make it like it was before it is never going to be like that. We are always going to remember what happened that caused it to break. Once a lie was told, the trust is broken. Once you are replaced, there is no turning back. Once words are spoken, they are out there for the world to hear and you can’t take them back.

It’s true that we can always find another mirror or another person and unfortunately we live in a world where we just replace. There are times, however. when we need to fix things, sometimes something new can’t always replace the thing we have lost or broken. Once something has broken it will never be the same. The past is the past for a reason but every piece of the mirror has a story and we need to remember that. Those stories once made us laugh and smile and they hold some of our saddest tears and most scariest fears. Sometimes the put back together mirror is better than no mirror at all.

Mirrors are like life…in many different ways.  When I look into my mirror today I want to see a +++BIG SMILE+++ looking back at me.  I hope you all do too.

Chapter 7, Page 25, Book 14

Life is like a multiple choice question, sometimes its the choices that confuses you, not the question itself.

When it comes to decisions, life can be like a multiple choice question. Sometimes all of the choices sound great and other times none of them.  The choices we make do make a difference.  Take it from one who has made some poor choices. Rather than dwell on them, I try to use the lessons learned because they will help me make better choices going forward.

It's not hard to make decisions when you know what your values are.

Roy Disney

Life questions are not as simple as A,B, C or D.  Don’t I wish they were.  But I do agree that the values that have been instilled in me do help to make them.  Values lie at the very heart of all we do , because values create the core of our personality and character. Only when our values are clear and we honor them, can we experience consistent self confidence and self esteem.

God asks no man
whether he will accept life.
That is not the choice.
You must take it.
The only question is how.

Chapter 7, Page 24, Book 14

LIFE IS

Life is like a rainbow. You need both the sun and the rain to make its colors appear.

Just like the rainbow, my life is colorful, fun filled and never dull.  Life is beautiful like the colors of the rainbow.  Rainbows represent hope, renewal and inspiration.

Hope is one of those things we take for granted while we have it, but when life turns pear shaped, and our minds and hearts are encased in fear, we cherish it all the more.  And surely as the rain does stop, the rainbow comes out and reveals an ever present brightness that was always there. The rain always stops at some point. The troubles in our lives don’t continue forever.

Have faith in your dreams and someday your rainbow will come smiling through. No matter how your heart is grieving, if you keep believing, the dream that you wish will come true

Life is like a rainbow and so is the human spirit!  Both filled with different colors.  Brilliant, calming, unusual and of course dark.  Friends can be like a rainbow too. Coming to your rescue after a storm and helping you to see the world is truly beautiful.  When I spot a rainbow in the sky, I always stop, and look, and reflect in awe at one of nature’s miracles.

Rainbows appear after mighty storms, when things look their worst. Just when the sky is darkest, out of heaven a rainbow appears and we see the colors of rainbow.  Whenever it rains and the sun shines, I hope to see this beautiful band of colors in the sky, and the sight of one never fails to cheer me up. Personally, I believe rainbows are a symbol of hope, and the meaning associated with each color adds more significance to this colorful band. There is red for courage, orange for vitality, yellow for justice, green for life, blue for perseverance, indigo for intuition, and pink for our new tomorrows.

Don't miss all the beautiful colors of the rainbow looking for that pot of gold.

Chapter 7, Page 23, Book 14

Life is…

Life is like a turning wheel: you can't always be on the top. Sooner or later you wind up on the bottom.

They do say there is a circle of life. Relationships end, and new relationships begin, or are renewed. Time keeps moving whether you want to or not.

When we are suffering, we may get through it to rise again in hope. Happiness will be regained, but the wheel also continues to turn. The cycle is repeated, and such is life.

We cannot help but ride the turning wheel of our lives, shaped by thousands of relationships, events and circumstances far beyond our capacity to understand, much less control, but even so we are also part of what turns the wheel of our lives in the first place.  We are the turning wheel and the hands that make it spin.  We are always part of life, always making countless differences, big and small,  but we can never truly control life no matter how hard we try.

Life's a wheel of fortune and it's my chance to spin it. …

We all get to make the choices in life as to how fast we want that wheel to spin, or how slowly.  I d like think that at this point in my life the wheel is turning slowly.  I love life in the slow lane.  It gives me more time to enjoy the view.

I had a boss one time that was very fond of saying the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Meaning that the loudest complaints get the most attention.  There are definitely times I’m squeaky.  The point I try to get across more than anything is we were meant to enjoy this life and be thankful for it.  To rejoice in each day we have !

Time is like a wheel. Turning and turning - never stopping. And the woods are the center; the hub of the wheel. It began the first week of summer, a strange and breathless time when accident, or fate, bring lives together. When people are led to do things, they've never done before. On this summer's day, not so very long ago, the wheel set lives in motion in mysterious ways.

Chapter 7, Page 22, Book 14

Life... is like a grapefruit. It's orange and squishy, and has a few pips in it, and some folks have half a one for breakfast.

Douglas Adams

The grapefruit illustrates the fact that there are different areas in one’s life.  All areas of our life are important, but sometimes we need to focus on one more than the other.  Just as our finances, values, attitude, priorities, thinking, relationships and commitments are all parts of life, our faith is sometimes like sugar on grapefruit! Sugar does not change the grapefruit to an apple, it just makes it more bearable!

There is a lot more juice in grapefruit than meets the eye.

Author Unknown

Taking only one day at a time or one problem at a time makes life easier and more enjoyable.  Keeping the segments of our work life and home life separate is a good idea too.

Every part/segment of our lives is important but we need all of them to have a full life.  Each segment comes together to make a whole.

Chapter 7, Page 21, Book 14

Life Is Like A Roller Coaster. Throw Your Hands Up And Enjoy The Ride

Just like a roller coaster is designed with hills up and down, and sudden turns, the same goes for our lives. Life has its ups and downs...but it's your choice to either scream or enjoy it.  It doesn't matter how up and down, fun or frightening, suspenseful, thrilling, sickening, or costly life's ride might be, when it comes to a stop... most people will beg, like a child leaving a roller coaster, to be given JUST ONE MORE minute of it.

Everyday can bring new challenges, new peaks and new valleys.  We stand in line to start our day, just like we stand in line to ride a rollercoaster. When the day is over we end up, pretty much in the same place we started, just like when we get off a roller coaster.  The thing is that we get to enjoy the ride in between.

When something bad is happening and I just want to get off,  I remember that it won’t stay bad forever because I’m on the amazing ride called life.  Don’t fight it, ride it.   If I make a decision to enjoy the ride regardless of how I feel, in other words, whether I like it or not, I seem to enjoy it. Time seems to pass much more quickly and life doesn't seem so bad after all.

like this world, with all of the ups and downs of the rollercoaster, it is right where I am supposed to be.  As I ride, I can't stop smiling, and find myself laughing spontaneously, while I raise my hands in the air, feeling the rush through my body as it goes up and down.  I accept the ups and downs, and love the anticipation of what's next, the excitement about the unknown and the overall giving of myself to the experience. Saying ‘yes' to life is like going on the biggest roller coaster ride of life

Life is like a roller coaster, live it, be happy, enjoy life

Chapter 7, Page 20, Book 14

Life is like a party. You invite a lot of people; some go, some join you, some laugh with you, some didn’t come. But in the end, after the fun, there would be a few who would clean up the mess with you. And most of the time, those were the uninvited ones.

Unknown

I do believe that we should celebrate every day and when you’re celebrating, you have a party!  One thing I know for sure is that you need people in your life in order to celebrate.  The only party I know of that one has by themselves and that’s a pity party and believe me those parties are not much fun at all.

You invite a lot of people into your life. Every day we meet new people and become friends.  Or maybe it is your family, parents, sibling, cousin or aunts or uncles.

Some are fun to laugh with when you need that in your life.  Makes you happy on a cloudy day.  Then you have those that you thought maybe you could count on that forget to even show up.  Most of the time when you need them the most.

Life is for celebrating when you have the right people and the right attitude.   This is why it is so important to pick the people you want in your life that can help you shoot higher, laugh louder and look forward to tomorrow.

Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance.

Author Unknown

Not all parties are good ones.   Have you ever had a party where the food just didn’t turn out the way you wanted it too?  That is like inviting the wrong people to the party, negative people are like a party crasher.  It’s when you get the right party goers coming to your life party, that the fun begins.

Life's a party. Invite yourself.

Chapter 7, Page 19, Book 14

Life is like a 1,000 page book. You want to quit halfway through, but then you realize you have a lot left to look forward to.

Unknown

Every chapter in the Book of Life defines our character and tells us who we are.  Some tell of tragedy, others of triumph.  Some chapters are dull and others are exciting. The key to being a success in life is to never stop on a difficult page, to never quit a tough chapter.

I write my book here in my blog every day.  Each chapter is a month, each page is a day and the book is the year. I love filling the pages with good thoughts to carry me through the day, but that is not always the case  as there have been some sad things I’ve written about too.  For the most part I try always to keep it uplifting as I do believe that what we think about is what we become.  Since we have the power to make our days better, we would be foolish indeed if we didn’t do it.

Each day is a new page. May your book be a bestseller with adventures to tell, lessons to learn and tales of good deeds to remember.

Chapter 7, Page 18, Book 14

LIFE IS…

Life is like a canvas. It begins blank and every day is like another brush stroke.  Make it a masterpiece!

 Unknown

Each morning, we are given the gift of 1440 minutes. It comes in a package wrapped with a ribbon of infinite possibility. You may think, as you are presented with it, that you know what it contains, but the reality is, it is truly a surprise. Each moment is ripe with possibility and it takes only one tweak of thought to change what you find when you open it.

Like art, each life moment is sacred and special, worthy of admiration and gratitude. When you choose to see your life as extraordinary, it becomes extraordinary. No one else but you gets the chance to make your life beautiful.

It begins blank and every day is like another brush stroke.

Unknown

In life, we  all have to create and start over and start once again, everyday. If we look at each day as our blank canvas, that is waiting for us to take a risk or to make the first stroke and we can only wonder what will we create in the end.  All of our experiences, good or bad, will only help to deepen the colors and make our strokes bolder.

Remember that here are many stages of creating a great painting or a great life. We must have the courage to take a step, make a mark or take an action even when we do not know what the outcome will be.

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.

Danny Kaye

PS:  I hope you are not getting bored already with these Life Is thoughts because I’ve found enough different ones to take me all the way through the middle of August.  I’m having fun in searching for and finding all the different comparisons there are out there.

Chapter 7, Page 17, Book 14

LIFE IS…

Life is like a bar of soap, once you think you’ve got a hold of it, it slips away.

Unknown

Life is exceedingly brief. You might feel like there’s a huge mass of time ahead of you, but it passes much faster than you think. Your kids grow up so fast you get whiplash. You get gray hairs before you’re done getting your bearings on life. Appreciate every moment.

Either you let your life slip away by not doing the things you want to do, or you get up and do them.

Roger Von Oech

Do less. Most people try to do too much. They fill life with checklists, and try to crank out tasks as if they were machines. Throw out the check lists and just figure out what’s important. Stop being a machine and focus on what you love. Do it lovingly.

Life is like a wet bar of soap. If you hold on to tight it will slip. When you just let it rest on the palm of your hand and you are relaxed, then the bar of soap won’t slip. Just relax and life wont slip away from you.

Slow down. Rushing is rarely worth it. Life is better enjoyed at a leisurely pace.

Live life to the fullest, it's the only one you get.

Chapter 7, Page 16, Book 14

LIFE IS…

Life is like an ocean. It can be calm and still or rough and rigid. But in the end it’s always beautiful.

Unknown

Learn to ride the waves…  Life in many ways can be a series of hard hitting, unsuspecting waves of challenges, problems and worries. We could be swimming in the calm part of the ocean to be struck by waves that push us to places we didn’t want to go. Waves that are unsuspecting, that bring heavy burdens and too fast for us to cope with.  Waves will try to knock you down and push you back to where you started but once you fight through them, the entire ocean is yours.  You can be like the ocean wave always leaping back up after falling.

We can cope with life the same way we cope with waves. We have to accept that waves, big and small will come our way. We can’t control the size, frequency and dangerousness of the waves but we can control how we respond to the problems and challenges life washes over us. Life will happen to us like it or not, we have no control over that.  Sometimes it's stormy, choppy, and a complete mess, other times it's calm and perfect.  We only can control how we respond to life.   Have faith, be strong and courageous and you can rise again like the ocean tide and the ocean waves.

All of the unknowns that the ocean provides it is similar to our own unknowns of our lives. Allowing the opportunity for us to expand and see so many new experiences. Experiences that will help us to grow and stretch as the waves grow and stretch across the ocean.

Life is kind of like the ocean. You can see how it starts, but not the way it ends

LIFE IS….

Sometimes life is like a dark tunnel. Though you can not always see the light at the end, if you keep going you will eventually get to a better place.
Jeffrey Fry

I’m one who likes to think that there is always a light at the end of tunnel no matter what you’re going through.  I am ever the optimist when it comes to getting through tough situations.  Thanks to a lot of help from the good Lord, I’ve been through a lot of them and come through a survivor.

In our life it is hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel when we become filled with doubt and frustration, but we must have faith, for the light at the end of the tunnel gets brighter, the more positive you are about a solution.  Have hope and faith that you can come through the most difficult of situations.

If you say you can’t, you won’t. If you say you can, you will. It’s really that simple. The secret is to stop looking at limitations as roadblocks. Instead, see all the opportunities life offers. Embrace them with the belief that you deserve them just as much as anybody. The truth is, you do.

The light at the end of the tunnel is not an illusion. The tunnel is.

 Unknown.

One thing in life is certain, nothing ever stays the same.  Everything changes day by day.  One day might be dark, but the next one maybe bright.  And even though the day may not be a good one, there is something good to be found in every day.  Your hope is your light. As long as you have hope kindled in your heart, your life will have light enough and you will get through all the darkness. The light of hope, the light of faith, the light of love does not only light your life, but all others that are around you.

The pessimist sees only the tunnel; the optimist sees the light at the end of the tunnel; the realist sees the tunnel and the light - and the next tunnel.

Chapter 7, Page 14, Book 14

LIFE IS….

Life is like a piano: the white keys represent happiness, the black keys show sadness. But as you go through life’s journey, remember that the black keys make music too…

Remember both keys are played together to give Sweet music to life..   There are often times I need to remember that everything that has happened in my life, both good and bad,  have led me to now. Those times have led me to who I am and where I am. And I love where I am.

You control what happens in your life by your attitude. You take it as it comes up and go with it. Sometimes you play it well and it all works. Other times you find you need some more practice. The trick is not to judge that you need more practice and go with it. The practice part is fun, that is living. Sometimes it feels that you’ll never get it right, even after many years of practice.

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.  Good music cleanses and makes our spirits shine.

Berthold Auerbach

Every time you do something it is a different experience so there is no right way. What matters is how you experience it.  Playing a piano can represent perseverance when you hang in there and practice every day.

Life is like a piano. It needs the master’s touch.

So very often when I hear someone play piano, it does seem as if it touches my heart and soul.  The chords blend together to make some beautiful music.  Just like all the pieces of my life have blended together to make for a wonderful life.

Some one once said that life is what you make it…I’ve found that to be true.  It is also true that:

Life is like a piano. What you get depends on how you play it.

LIFE IS….

Life is like a mountain, hard to climb, but once you get to the top the view is beautiful.

Author Unknown

A mountain represents both a high point and a low point.  Even when climbing a mountain, there will be spots where you are going up, and then need to change direction and go down in order to continue to the peak.  Life Lesson: Life is like this.  There will be ups and there will be downs.  The important thing to remember is that through it all, we remember where we’re headed on our life journey.  Have we thought about the peak we’re aiming for?

Live your life each day as you would climb a mountain. An occasional glance towards the summit keeps the goal in mind, but many beautiful scenes are to be observed from each new vantage point.

Harold B. Melchart

Depending on where you are there may or may not be a trail to follow.  Along the easier parts of the mountain, those which are traveled regularly by many, trails are plentiful and in good condition.  The closer you get to the peak, or the farther away you get from places that are most popular, the less likely you are to have an easy trail to follow.   Obstacles are out there in our lives.  And we’ll most certainly encounter them as we go through life.  There will be times we stumble along the way in life.

Today is your day! Your mountain is waiting. So… get on your way.

Dr. Seuss

The 8 Secrets of Mountain Climbing and Life

Plan carefully so you know what you’re getting into.
Cheer yourselves on, admit it’s hard and congratulate yourself on how well you’re doing.
Stop to rest often and admire the view along the way.
Being part of a team of like minded people can make it more fun.
If you want to make it to the top you need to persevere.
If you concentrate on just taking one step after another, you’ll get there in the end,
The most important thing is to enjoy the process.
Drink plenty of water.

Let’s focus on enjoying our journey today, and not only on the final destination. Achieving goals is good, but having fun is important too.

Today was good. Today was fun. Tomorrow is another one.

Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t turn out – take another shot.

 Unknown

Much of how we feel in this life, regarding our state of happiness and life satisfaction, is determined by where we  focus our attention. While there are definitely real challenges and unexpected life events that test us all, we’re also a resilient and adaptable lot. So why is it that some people, no matter what dire circumstances confront them, seem to stay upbeat and positive? The answer has everything to do with what they choose to focus on.

The virtue of the camera is not the power it has to transform the photographer into an artist, but the impulse it gives him to keep on looking - and looking.

Brooks Atkinson, Once Around the Sun

It is amazing what happens when you decide to focus on and enjoy what God gives us every day. It is easy to get so caught up in all your responsibilities that you forget to enjoy what you are doing. You can get so busy raising your children that you forget to enjoy them. You can get so caught up in cleaning your house, trying to pay for it, and remodeling it, that you forget to enjoy it.

When I keep my focus on every blessing that comes my way, like a friend’s message, a hug, a lesson, it makes me energized and empowers me to see what is important in life.

What the human eye observes causally and incuriously, the eye of the camera notes with relentless fidelity.

LIFE IS LIKE….

Life is like a beautiful melody, only the lyrics are messed up.

Hans Christian Andersen

There is truly some music I love until I realize just what the lyrics are saying.  The music itself is beautiful but the words are ugly.  That reminds me that people can often appear the same way.  Some are beautiful on the outside but on the inside things aren’t looking too good.

In 2009, Susan Boyle took the stage of Britain’s Got Talent. Compared to the other contestants, she was plain looking. No one expected much when she raised the microphone to her lips. But then she began to sing. Spellbound, the judges were clearly taken with the beauty and power of the voice that filled the auditorium as the audience stood to their feet cheering with delight. All were surprised that such a rivetingly beautiful song came from such an unlikely source.

All of us can be unlikely sources when it comes to the beauty within us. Common folk like you and me take turns on the stage of life in front of the world’s skeptical audience so that our friends, family, and all who fill the arena of our lives will see and hear melody that comes from our heart and soul.

There's a melody in everything. And once you find the melody, then you connect immediately with the heart. Because sometimes English or Spanish, Swahili or any language gets in the way. But nothing penetrates the heart faster than the melody.

Chapter 7, Page 10, Book 14

Life is either a great adventure or nothing.

Hellen Keller

In my blog post yesterday I mentioned that Life is like a journey.  Today I’m sharing some thoughts about how Life is an adventure.  Truth is that Life is compared to many things and I’m thinking that  in the days ahead I’ll use that topic, Life is like…, and see just how many comparisons there are.   I think it’ll be interesting to see how many different ones I can find.

We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.

Jawaharlal Nehru

Just thinking about how adventurous life for little children, makes me realize that maybe I need to add a little more adventure to my life.  No path in life is safe, including boring ones, so we might as well pick an adventurous path.

More often than not, my adventures are to seek out the JOYs in life daily.  Not every day is a good one but some good to be found in every day.

I’ve noticed that when you give young children a present, they might play with the wrapping paper or the box it came in as much as the gift itself. Give a little boy a small fire engine, and he’ll imagine himself putting out a giant fire. Give a little girl a doll, and she’ll treat it as her own child. Children are also curious and imaginative, capable of intently focusing on the task at hand, especially when it comes to playtime! Thankfully I have plenty of opportunities to observe them.

Children have a tendency to keep things simple. They trust their parents. They believe everything their parents tell them. By contrast, we adults ask far too many questions. We like to think things through, weighing the pros and cons and examining every angle. While that’s usually a good thing, too much examination can make it hard for us to be trusting. This is especially true when it comes to faith.

There are many benefits we can all gain by behaving like a child because the more we connect to that child within ourselves, the more we're freed up for adventure, wherever we go. Don't be afraid to look ridiculous. Climb a tree or join a child in drawing on the sidewalk. Run through a lawn sprinkler. Life's too short to worry about what people think. They're probably thinking they'd like to join you, anyway.

One more thing I’ve discovered is that children love a good hug and so do I. So today, I’m sending some (((BIG HUGS))) out to all.  Hugs and smiles are two of the best things we can all give to each other and what adventure would be complete with out them.

Life life to the fullest and enjoy the adventure every day!

Chapter 7, Page 9, Book 14

The past is supposed to be a guidepost, not a hitching post.

It’s easy to become tied to memories of the good old days instead of using our experiences to find direction for the road ahead.

Life is like a journey we take and our experiences are those, bumps and ruts along the way.  They way being our destination.

The journey is filled with lessons, hardships, heartaches, joys, celebrations and special moments that will ultimately lead us to our destination, our purpose in life. The road will not always be smooth. In fact, throughout my life I've encounter many challenges.

I feel that the  people that we meet on our journey, are people that we are destined to meet. Everybody comes into our lives for some reason or another and we don't always know their purpose until it is too late. They all play some kind of role. Some may stay for a lifetime; others may only stay for a short while.

Life is like a road. It has bumps, cracks and obstacles, but in the end, it gets you somewhere.  When you hit that unexpected bump in the road, remember that it is only a bump, not a mountain. Go over it or around it but make sure you keep going

The dips and curves in life can only make us stronger, more determined to succeed.  When we get caught up in wondering or worrying where we are going or how long it is taking, we don't enjoy the ride.  We can enjoy it if we remember to live one day at a time and trust the good Lord to take care of us.  Enjoy the ride and pull over from time to time to rest and enjoy God's panoramic view. There are many blessings along the way and that final destination will be worth it all
