Chapter 11, Page13, Book 14

Courtesies of a small and trivial character are the ones which strike deepest in the grateful and appreciating heart.

Henry Clay

When you watch the news today, or hear the stories people are telling, it is quite often too easy to develop a pessimistic view of our society. We often hear that common sense is not so common, and common decency has gone south as well.

It seems that our society so values youth that we often fail to see where the age and experience of older men and women can serve as valuable resources for younger men and women.  But sometimes I think that the frequent failure of young men and women to honor their elders has as much to do with the fact that elders need to make sure they are worthy of respect.

If we want younger men and women to be self controlled and models of good deeds in every respect, we need to model integrity in setting good examples.  The lesson is not just about following the rules.  Young people rebel from rule oriented lifestyles because older people often hold up rigid standards for passing judgment on them.

Our actions do speak louder than words.  And I believe that kindness begins at home.

Today I’m thankful for:

2216. for our little Sweet Sugar AB, it’s her birthday today

2217. for those that show kindness every day

2218. for a birthday party to look forward to, I get to celebrate this one in person!

When you share your heart with someone, the bond is there forever. The blessings multiply!

I totally agree that seniors have to earn the respect of our youth. In fact so do the youth have to earn our respect. I have seen where both have a lot of work to do. Another great post.

Happy birthday to AB! How exciting to turn 1!

So true about respecting our elders and then making sure the elder is worth respecting. Eyes are watching us everywhere, we always need to remember that :)

You said: But sometimes I think that the frequent failure of young men and women to honor their elders has as much to do with the fact that elders need to make sure they are worthy of respect.
