Chapter 7, Page 31, Book 13

Information is not knowledge.

Albert Einstein

Specially blended for asking…

Human beings are big on how to. Search on the Internet, and you will soon learn how to tie a tie, boil an egg, or even train your dragon.

The information age is changing who we are, how we think, what we believe, how we behave.  The world is not going to ever revert back to way things were ten, twenty or thirty years ago.

It is important for us to understand that there is a difference between information, knowledge, truth, and wisdom.  not all knowledge is healthy, positive. On the contrary there is much knowledge that is harmful.

People should want to know how and why things work.  Sometimes, even when we are very well in touch with our needs and wants, it's hard to know how to ask, or even what to ask, to get what we are looking for.

One thing I've found to be very true is that when I'm seeking answers, the best thing I can do is pray.  Prayer is the  connection between God and believer. Prayer is asking and thanking, but it’s more than that, it’s also worship, listening, learning, expecting, and hoping.

The answers are not all on the internet.  The Lord has most assuredly promised to answer our prayers.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

Matthew 7:7

There is no formula to prayer, it is simply conversing with God. It is essentially talking with God as you would talk with a parent who loves you and wants the best for you.

This past Sunday our deacon shared some information on praying and I thought it was worth sharing.

He explained the ACTS method of praying. ACTS stands for Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication.

Adoration means worship. Begin your time of prayer by adoring and praising God. Praise Him for who He is and for all that He has done for you.

Confession, the next component, is telling God about the things that you have done wrong. It's a time to express sorrow about what you have said, thought, or done that is not pleasing to Him. Ask God to forgive you for these things, and then believe that He does so freely.

Thanksgiving basically means being thankful to God. Thank Him for His love, protection, and provision just to name a few things.

Supplication is the final component, and this means praying for your needs and for the needs of others, such as friends, family and you may want to pray for such things as God's guidance and wisdom too.

Keep in mind that the ACTS model serves as a guide to help you, not a rigid formula to follow. There is no canned approach that you need to take; just talk from your heart

Where is all the knowledge we lost with information?

Chapter 7, Page 30, Book 13

Is the glass half empty, half full, or twice as large as it needs to be?

Author Unknown

Specially blended to fill your cup...

Some peoples glass is half full, others half empty, it just depends on their outlook; positive or negative.

We are all familiar with the story of two people looking at the same glass and one perceiving it as half-full while the other sees it as half-empty. As much as we’ve heard this, it’s still a valuable lesson to really look ourselves and notice whether we are in half full or half empty way of thinking.

Indeed, a glass with water at the halfway point can be seen as both half empty and half full. If you see the glass as half full, you're generally optimistic.   I even heard one person exclaim, what does it matter?  You still have water don't you?  Pessimists think that improvement is not possible, so they tell you to be happy with the world as it is.

When the glass is half filled, the open space of the glass offers opportunity to be filled to change the situation of the half empty glass to be an overflowing glass.

You miss so much if you look at life through the half empty glass.  I firmly believe that if your focus is always on what is lost, you will feel like a looser.  Focus on what is broken and you will feel like having a breakdown.

I try to see every situation as a glass half full. If you didn't reach a goal, think of it as a learning process, or an opportunity to get it right the next time.

Of course I look at the glass half full.  The only time I would look at it half empty is when I think about how good the first half tasted.

Chapter 7, Page 29, Book 13

Look at life through the windshield,
not the rear-view mirror.

Byrd Baggett

Sometimes when things get tough, we get caught up in how great the past was and we take our focus off the now and what’s right in front of us.

I've seen it happen too many times.  People do get caught up in the past and forget to enjoy what is in the present.

When we live through the windshield  we understand that whats in front of us is most important, our quality of life expands and helps us live more fulfilled, passionate lives.   We need to make sure that our past does not limit us in what God has for us ahead.

Don’t let your rearview mirror be bigger than your windshield.

It’s not easy to keep looking ahead and sometimes it’s scary to wonder where the road will end. But it’s still better to keep looking through the windshield than to live regretting what you can never go back to

Let your eyes look directly ahead, and let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.

Proverbs 4:25

Chapter 7, Page 28, Book 13

Anyone can slay a dragon, he told me, but try waking up every morning and loving the world all over again. That's what takes a real hero.

Brian Andreas

Specially blended to wake you up!

Some people dream of success... while others wake up and work hard at it.

Chapter 7, Page 27, Book 13

Be Nice to People

If you haven’t any charity in your heart, you have the worst kind of heart trouble.

There is no greater loan than a sympathetic ear.

Wherever there is a human being, there is an opportunity for a kindness.

Don’t wait for people to be friendly, show them how.

The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway.

Kindness, like a boomerang, always returns.

You cannot do a kindness too soon, for you never know how soon it will be too late.

By swallowing evil words unsaid, no one has ever harmed his stomach.

Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out.

How beautiful a day can be when kindness touches it!

Those who bring sunshine to the lives of others cannot keep it from themselves.

To err on the side of kindness is seldom an error.

There are no traffic jams when you go the extra mile.

The best way to knock the chip off your neighbor’s shoulder is to pat him on the back.

A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives roses.

The kindest word in all the world is the unkind word, unsaid.

In a world full of people who couldn’t care less, be someone who couldn’t care more.

We have two ears and one mouth so that we can listen twice as much as we speak.

Being considerate of others will take your children further in life than any college degree.

Open your heart – open it wide; someone is standing outside.

Author Unknown

Specially Blended for loving kindness…

No act of kindness, no matter how small is ever wasted.
Aesop
Little things mean a lot and when it comes to kindness, there is no doubt that each and every bit of kindness is needed.  We hear about random acts of kindness, but not much about the everyday kindnesses we can show to those around us.  Anything nice you do for someone can be considered an act of kindness.

Kindness is love in action. Kindness is something you do. It's a practical expression of love. It's visible and active, not just emotional.

When I think of someone that is kind, I think of someone that is supportive.  One of the best ways to be supportive is by your speech. Building people up rather than tearing them down.  When it comes to kindness, good intentions don't count.

I choose kindness, I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone, kind to the rich, for they are afraid and kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.

Chapter 7, Page 26, Book 13

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food, for love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Specially blended for thankfulness…

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.  Have you used one to say thank you?

William A. Ward

Those two little words, Thank You, mean so much and really aren't used as often as they should be either.  I'm as guilty of that one as the next person.  Remembering to be thankful for everything we have is something I've been working on this year and I've been trying to list at least 3 things every day.  I keep record of them on my other blog and am now up to almost 800 with my aim being 1000 before the end of the year.

The thing is there are probably 800 things that happen every day of my life that I should be thankful for and most of the time I just take them for granted.  From each breath we take to the bed we sleep in, we all have things to be thankful for.

It seems we don’t need more to be thankful for, we just need to be more thankful.

We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures.

Thornton Wilder

Chapter 7, Page 25, Book 13

Train Of Life

Some folks ride the train of life
Looking out the rear,
Watching miles of life roll by,
And marking every year.

They sit in sad remembrance,
Of wasted days gone by,
And curse their life for what it was,
And hang their head and cry.

But I don't concern myself with that,
I took a different vent,
I look forward to what life holds,
And not what has been spent.

So strap me to the engine,
As securely as I can be,
I want to be out on the front,
To see what I can see.

I want to feel the winds of change,
Blowing in my face,
I want to see what life unfolds,
As I move from place to place.

I want to see what's coming up,
Not looking at the past,
Life's too short for yesterdays,
It moves along too fast.

So if the ride gets bumpy,
While you are looking back,
Go up front, and you may find,
Your life has jumped the track.

It's all right to remember,
That's part of history,
But up front's where it's happening,
There's so much mystery.

The enjoyment of living,
Is not where we have been,
It's looking ever forward,
To another year and ten.

It's searching all the byways,
Never should you refrain,
For if you want to live your life,
You gotta drive the train.

Author Unknown

Specially blended for traveling…

The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore.

Psalm 121:8

When I read this poem I could just see myself there on that train.  Chugging along on the track, going wherever life leads me.  I know that I will travel many pathways during my lifetime. Some may take me only a short distance and there will be others that I will travel for years. On my journey through life, I will have countless opportunities to choose one path over another.

There have definitely been times my train has jumped the track too, but thankfully with a little help from above, I got back on track again.  By listening to my heart, I know God will lead me to right choices on my journey. I've found that I never travel alone and it's the best feeling in the world.

When I see two paths ahead I can be sad that I don't always make the right choice or I can focus on hope instead of looking at where I fell short.  Hope inspires me to keep on going.  I want to feel those winds of change blowing me in the face.

Chapter 7, Page 24, Book 13

Nobody grows old merely by living a number of years.  We grow old by deserting our ideals.  Years may wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul.

Samuel Ullman

Specially blended for longevity…

There is a wonder to life. Pursue it. Hunt for it. Don’t listen to the whines of those who’ve settled for a second rate life and want you to do the same so they won’t feel guilty. Your goal is not to live long…it’s to live!

Max Lucado

Isn’t it true that we all desire to be fully alive? We want to live each day knowing that our lives have meaning and purpose.  A full life cannot be measured by the quantity but rather by the quality. Living a meaningful, passionate life has nothing to do with its length and everything to do with its width. It's often called quality time!   Life events you want to experience and values you want to embody.

Life is full of routines like sleeping, eating and working with occasional landmarks such as marriage, birth and death. These and all the moments in between are what make up our lives.  It's up to us to choose how we want to spend them, to live life fully and live life as God meant for us to live.

Seasons and years come and go.  We are living longer but not necessarily better.  We can only live the full life when we live fully in the moment

It's important to have a twinkle in your wrinkle.

Truths For Living

The more generous we are,
the more joyous we become.

The more cooperative we are,
the more valuable we become.

The more enthusiastic we are,
the more productive we become.

The more serving we are,
the more prosperous we become.

The more outgoing we are,
the more helpful we become.

The more curious we are,
the more creative we become.

The more patient we are,
the more understanding we become.

The more persistent we are,
the more successful we become.

William Arthur Ward

Specially blended with integrity...

Truth allows you to live with integrity. Everything you do and say shows the world who you really are. Let it be the Truth.

Oprah Winfrey

Many have their own ideas about how to live but I think the words by William Arthur Ward spell out my thoughts pretty well.  I have discover that I really like being able to give something to others.  Whether it's a SMILE, a kind word or a pat on the back, I like to do things for others.  When I can't find something to give, I'm not happy at all.  I'm always on the lookout for a great quote, a meaningful poem or story to share.

Truthfully, if I couldn't do this, my days just wouldn't be complete.  There are just a very few of us that blog every day any more.  For me it's become a way of life.  I know that my computer is not going to last forever, and I know my budget won't accommodate a new one either.  I have seen a few posts done recently by mobile blogging so if and when my computer ever decides to quite, that maybe an option.

Meanwhile, everything is working A-OK!  I'm not holding my breath waiting to see if that will ever happen.  I don't go around on egg shells, but do try to live a full life using whatever means I have.

Remember every day might not be good, but there is something good to be found in every day!

Have the courage to say No. Have the courage to face the Truth. Do the right thing because it is right. These are the magic keys to living your life with integrity.

Chapter 7, Page 22, Book 13

You Are Worth It

Do not undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Do not set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.

Do not take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as you would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.

Do not let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past nor for the future. By living your life one day at a time, you live all the days of your life

Do not give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying. It is a fragile thread that binds us to each other.

Do not be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.

Do not shut love out of your life by saying it is impossible to find.

The quickest way to receive love is to give love; The fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly.

Do not dismiss your dreams. To be without dreams is to be without hope; To be without hope is to be without purpose.

Do not run through life so fast that you forget not only where you have been, but also where you are going.

Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Author Unknown

Specially blended to be worthwhile…

We should never go through life doubting our existence or believing the lie that our life does not matter. By being alive in this day and time, we
should be eager for each new day that comes our way to meet its challenges and exceed what we even thought was possible.

A few years ago I was fortunate enough to do a Bible study of the book of Ruth.  In it we were reminded time and again that we born for such a time as this.  A time to be the special and unique person we all are.

Right now, at this time, we have a chance to live life to the fullest in your own special way.  No one else can do what you can.  We all have some kind of talent or gift and even though they may not be the talents others have.  They are still special!

My little picture today is of a little garden snake sitting on one of my bird feeders on Sunday morning.  I guess he thought he was pretty special having found a safe place to enjoy a little sunshine.  I can't imagine how he managed to climb up the pole to sun himself there, but hey, he is talented.

I went off to church after snapping the picture and when I got home he was gone.  Now I'm going to be looking to see if he comes back.

I am always just amazed at the little things that happen in my daily life.  We just have to remember that wherever we may be, who ever we may be…we need to view life from our own special angle and make the most of it.

Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.

Chapter 7, Page 21, Book 13

Living One Day at a Time

Our lives are made up of
a million different ways.
Some are spent searching for
love, peace, and harmony.Others
are spent surviving day by day.

But there are no greater moments than
that life, with all it's joys and sorrows,
is meant to be lived one day at a time.
It's in this knowledge that we discover
the most wonderful truth of all.

Whether we live in a forty room mansion,
surrounded by servants and wealth,
or find it a struggle to manage the
rent month to month we have
it within our power to be fully
satisfied and live a life
with true meaning.

One day at a time we have that ability,
through cherishing each moment
and rejoicing in each dream.

We can experience each day anew,
and with this fresh start we have
what it takes to make all our
dreams come true.

Each day is new, and living
one day at a time enables us to truly
enjoy life and live it to the fullest.

It's Sunday morning and it looks like today will be a good one here. We are to be in the low 80's and sunny.

Taking one day at a time is always a good way to live.  Yesterday is done and over and tomorrow hasn't come.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday!

Chapter 7, Page 20, Book 13

I Choose

It's quiet. It's early. My coffee is hot. The sky is still black. The world is still asleep. The day is coming.

In a few moments the day will arrive. It will roar down the track with the rising of the sun. The stillness of the dawn will be exchanged for the noise of the day. The calm of the solitude will be replaced by the pounding pace of the human race. The refuge of the early morning will be invaded by decisions to be made and deadlines to be met.

For the next twelve hours I will be exposed to the day's demands. It is now that I must make a choice. Because of Calvary, I'm free to choose. And so...

I CHOOSE LOVE...

No occasion justifies hatred; no injustice warrants bitterness. I choose love. Today I will love God and what God loves.

I CHOOSE JOY...

I will invite my God to be the God of circumstance. I will refuse the temptation to be cynical...the tool of the lazy thinker. I will refuse to see people as anything less than human beings, created by God. I will refuse to see any problem as anything less than an opportunity to see God.

I CHOOSE PEACE...

I will live forgiven. I will forgive so that I may live.

I CHOOSE PATIENCE...

I will overlook the inconveniences of the world. Instead of cursing the one who takes my place, I'll invite him to do so. Rather than complaining that the wait is too long, I will thank God for a moment to pray. Instead of clinching my fist at new assignments, I will face them with joy and courage.

I CHOOSE KINDNESS...

I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.

I CHOOSE GOODNESS...

I will go without a dollar before I take a dishonest one. I will be overlooked before I will boast. I will confess before I will accuse. I choose goodness.

I CHOOSE FAITHFULNESS...

Today I will keep my promises. My debtors will not regret their trust. My associates will not question my word. My family will not question my love.

I CHOOSE GENTLENESS...

Nothing is won by force. I choose to be gentle. If I raise my voice, may it be only in praise. If I clench my fist, may it be only in prayer. If I make a demand, may it be only of myself.

I CHOOSE SELF-CONTROL...

I am a spiritual being. After this body is dead, my spirit will soar. I refuse to let what will rot rule the eternal. I choose self-control. I will be drunk only by joy. I will be impassioned only by my faith. I will be influenced only by God. I will be taught only by Christ.

LOVE, JOY, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS, GENTLENESS, AND SELF-CONTROL........

To these I commit my day. If I succeed, I will give thanks. If I fail, I will seek God's face. And then when this day is done, I will place my head on my pillow and rest.

Specially blended to spread a little JOY…

He who has a why to live
can bear almost any how.

Friedrich Nietzsche

There are some things in life that seem unbearable.  I've had them and I'm sure lots of others have too.  None of us leads a perfect life.  The thing is it seems that some people can't seem to get over their negative, critical attitude. Nothing ever pleases them. They know no joy, so they give no joy.

I think that we all need to evaluate to some extent, our attitude in this area.  My attitude check always includes the question -- Do I make it a brighter, happier place because I am here? Will my smile send someone away with a little sunshine in their lives? It ought to.  Our attitude reflects the choices we make.

I need to remember to avoid being pessimistic and try to see the good in the world.  Because I've experienced a lot of joy in my life, it's up to me to spread a little joy!

It's raining here this morning, I think this heat wave may soon be a thing of the past!

Joy is a gift that is meant to be given away.

Chapter 7, Page 19, Book 13

When things are bad, we take comfort in the thought
that they could always be worse.  And when they are, we find hope
in the thought that things are so bad they have to get better.

Malcolm S. Forbes

Specially blended for comfort…

When I read the quote above, I thought -- How true!

I've bemoaned the heat wave we are experiencing, but have considered how much worse it would be if I didn't have air conditioning.  And there have been times in my life when I've felt that things were so bad, they had to get better too.  Sometimes when I thought I was at the end of my rope, I also found out that the rope was a little longer than I thought it was.

I've learned to hang on no matter what because things will eventually change. Changes can come when we least expect them and sometimes they come long after we've expected them too.  Life goes on, life has many chapters, many beginnings and many endings. But nothing is over until it's over. All of the sudden we come to realize that we lived through it and life is still going on.  The end of the rope is just that, it's the end of the rope but it's not the end of the line.

I know I'll live through this heat wave.  I know it's not going to last forever.  In fact, eventually it's going to get so cold here that I'll be longing for a heat wave.

It's also been said that when you come to end of your rope, why not get a new rope? A new rope will be more trustworthy than the old one we've been hanging onto anyway.  Maybe I need to redefine my expectations of summertime.

I've heard too that if you've come to the end of your rope, you should start climbing..  We often need to re-evaluate the situation.  Bad things happen to all of us but we don't have to let it control our lives.

The weather isn't going to control mine for sure.  Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day!

There is no danger of eyestrain from
looking on the bright side of things.

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

Russel Baker

Specially blended to keep cool...

How does anyone beat the heat these days? With temperatures soaring keeping cool can be quite a challenge. They say that the fun of staying cool in the summer heat comes from finding creative ways to do it.  I've run out of ideas.

Here at my house, I've found that if I move around I get hotter, so my days have been spent inside reading a lot.

I drink cooling drinks, eat lots of fruit cold from the fridge and have salads more than soup these days.  Being lazy has become a way of life here.  I've decided to just enjoy it and not fight it.

Hopefully you all are finding ways to keep cool where you are.

Happy lazy days to you!

Chapter 7, Page 17, Book 13

With ordinary talent and extraordinary perseverance, all things are attainable.

Thomas Foxwell Buxton

Specially blended to be extraordinary…

If you live just for today, to make today the most successful, happy day of your life, I am sure that you will have an extraordinary life. A successful life is nothing more than a series of successful days.

Unknown

Experiencing a happy or successful life simply comes down to having happy or successful days.  You can do extraordinary things—no matter how ordinary your life may seem.

Throughout history, there are people who live ordinary lives, and those who live life to its fullest.  I've heard it once said that if we want to live an extraordinary life, we must treat every day as extraordinary.

Living an extraordinary life does not mean living a perfect life or an idyllic life. It means living each day as it comes.  Everyday is a gift. Embrace what God has blessed you with today and move on.

Never forget that it's the little ordinary things that make life extraordinary!  Make the little things matter and find joy in your little moments.

The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little extra.

Chapter 7, Page 16, Book 13

Don't give up on God..

Michael was the only survivor of the shipwreck. He was washed up on a small, uninhabited island. He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day for two months he scanned the horizon for help, but to no avail. Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect himself from the elements and to store his few possessions. One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in flames with smoke rolling up to the sky. The worst had happened! Everything was lost! He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. God, how could you do this to me? he cried. Early the next day he was awakened by the sound of a ship that was approaching the island. It had come to rescue him. How did you know I was here? asked the weary man of his rescuers. We saw your smoke signal, they replied. We may at times feel that God has abandoned us. It is during those moments that God is in fact nearer than we think.

Specially blended for relief…

He who has faith has... an inward reservoir of courage, hope, confidence, calmness, and assuring trust that all will come out well - even though to the world it may appear to come out most badly.

B.C. Forbes

Just as the man in the shipwreck was rescued, sometimes we need to  be rescued from the daily stresses of life.  We need some relief from the hustle and bustle of every day tasks.  Taking a break, an day off or even a week is always a good thing.

Since I retired, I have had days on end without any stress at all.  It seems like a permanent vacation here but I do remember how relieved I used to be when a vacation day would finally showed up.

Very often we don't know the reason why certain things happen, but I believe every thing has a purpose.  So even though we might ask WHY? it is easier to accept when we know that there is a master plan and all works together for the good.

We can all make plans for things we want to do or have, but that is not always the way things turn out.  Being able to accept that fact and move on is a blessing.

Today is a good day to take a vacation from worries, to be content.

Weave in faith and God will find the thread.
