Chapter 4, Page 30, Book 13

TODAY'S WORD:

Effortless

Requiring no physical or mental exertion

To change everything... simply change your attitude.

After many years of trying always to look on the Bright Side of things, it is effortless now for me to do otherwise.  It's a habit I've acquired along the way and one that keeps me going too.

Positive thoughts really don't take much effort anyway, but negative ones that require effort, only tend to bring me down so why even take that view of life.

To be bitter is to waste precious moments of a life that is too short already

No one is guaranteed happiness.  Life just gives each person time and space. It's up to us to fill it with joy.

Some peoples glass is half full, others half empty, it just depends on their outlook; positive or negative.

To change your outlook, remember God's looking out for you.

Who will tell whether one happy moment of love or the joy of breathing or walking on a bright morning and smelling the fresh air, is not worth all the suffering and effort which life implies.

Chapter 4, Page 29, Book 13

Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.

Oscar Wilde

TODAY'S WORD

Safe

Protected from or not exposed to danger or risk; not likely to be harmed or lost.

There are many things that can be taken from us in life. Even under lock and key nothing is absolutely safe. But there are many things within each of us that are just so precious. These are special and unique to each of us.

Life is a lot like the weather . . . it’s seasonal. It has a way of pushing us into the next season whether we like it or not. And when pushed into the next season, we are often uncertain and even fearful of what it might hold for us.  But those dear and precious things in my life are about as safe as they can get.

I know I keep my family tucked away in my heart and wrapped safely with love.  My memories are all mine, for whatever they are worth, they are mine alone and no one can take them from me.

I have hope that never dies, I have love that never ends.  There are so many things that are safe, secure and there is nothing that can take them away or harm them.

Safety doesn't happen by accident.

Chapter 4, Page 28, Book 13

Making the Most of Life

If I can throw a single ray of light across the darkened pathway of another; if I can aid some soul to clearer sight of life and duty, and thus bless my brother; if I can wipe from any human cheek a tear, I shall not have lived my life in vain while here.

If I can guide some erring one to truth, inspire within his heart a sense of duty; if I can plant within my soul of rosy youth a sense of right, a love of truth and beauty; if I can teach one man that God and heaven are near, I shall not then have lived in vain while here.

If from my mind I banish doubt and fear, and keep my life attuned to love and kindness; if I can scatter light and hope and cheer, and help remove the curse of mental blindness; if I can make more joy, more hope, less pain, I shall not have lived and loved in vain.

If by life's roadside I can plant a tree, beneath whose shade some wearied head may rest, though I may never share its beauty, I shall yet be truly blest--though no one knows my name, nor drops a flower upon my grave, I shall not have lived in vain while here.

Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.

Forest Gump

WORD FOR TODAY:

 Fearless

Showing a lack of fear; intrepid.

brave, not scared

Life has it's ups and downs and not many things are guaranteed.  They say that only things we know for sure is death and taxes. But for me there is much much more that I can count on in life.  I believe in hope and in love.  With faith hope and love in my heart,  I'm trying to make the most of the life I've been given.

Faith lifts burdens from our lives.  Faith is not wishing, but knowing that God is the only one who will never fail you.  We need only to believe.

The power of hope structures your life in anticipation of the future and influences how you feel in the present.  If we didn't have hope we wouldn't have much of a life at all.

1 Corinthians 13:13

So faith hope and love remain, these three, but the greatest of these is love

The power of love is a curious thing, it can make a one man weep, make another man sing,  Love in its truest form tends to invoke trust.

Faith, hope and love give us confidence beyond what our human mind can imagine.  We cannot know the outcome of every day but we do know that with love all things are made possible.  We can fear less and enjoy more.

You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.

Chapter 4, Page 27, Book 13

You are an Angel to Me

In my whole life,
There is no one else like you.
Someone who changed my life,
Just by being you.
You are an angel to me.

The music of your laughter
Still lightens my inner ear.
You showed me you believe,
That there really is good here.
You are an angel for me.

You showed me that you care,
When I was really down,
You never turned away,
Nor showed me a saddened frown.
You are an angel beside me.

Even when you are sad and blue,
And life is hard on you,
You spare me one more smile,
Just like God's loving child.
You are God's angel to me.

You have done so much for me,
And given me your time.
I have a gift for you,
With this imperfect rhyme.

Thank you my angel friend.

The golden moments in the stream of life rush past us and we see nothing but sand; the angels come to visit us, and we only know them when they are gone.

George Elliot

TODAY'S WORD:

Angels

A spiritual being believed to act as an attendant, agent, or messenger of God

An attendant spirit, esp. a benevolent one

I do believe there are angels all around us.  We have both the heavenly and earthly angels in our lives.  Angelic beings, earth angels and angels in disguise.   I know that I have a guardian angel that guides and protects me each day.

Last weekend when I was talking with my daughter and one of my sons the conversation turned to angels.  My son mentioned that when they said prayers with their little one, he often mentioned the man watching over them when they prayed.  I said I believe that little ones are so near to the angels that do really see them.

There are others of my grandchildren that have seen or had imaginary friends when they were little.  I think those were angels too.   One of my granddaughters had a constant companion during her toddler years.  It would seem to me that we all have those angels around us but we don't see them.  Only the purity of a small child's mind is truly open to them.

We are each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another.

Luciano de Crescenzo

I don't remember seeing any heavenly angels in my youth but have seen plenty of earthly ones in my life.  Those friends and relatives and even sometimes strangers that have made such a difference in my life.

There are human beings that are a like a shining light on our path. And then there are those who appear as dark forces tripping us up, but in reality, they too are serving a higher purpose.  Those that showed up at just the right time, who encouraged us when we needed it.

Be an angel to someone else whenever you can, as a way of thanking God for the help your angel has given you.

Chapter 4, Page 26, Book 13

The more side roads you stop to explore, the less likely that life will pass you by.

Robert Brault

TODAY'S WORD:

Explore

Travel in or through (an unfamiliar country or area) in order to learn about or familiarize oneself with it.

to investigate, study, or analyze : look into

I love to be with my family and will be spending time traveling to visit with one of my long distance son's soon.  I am looking forward to the time we'll be together, but I'm afraid my exploring days are quickly coming to an end.

I am getting to the point where home is feeling more and more comfortable.  I like being surrounded with the familiar things in life.  I am probably selfish in thinking that there are not going to be many trips at all after this one.  If they are it will be of the kind that can be done in one day and then I'll be safely home again.

I've never done much exploration in my life.  Traveling only at times to see one or the other of my children.  I appreciate those trips as I've never had to pay for any of them.  My children provide the means and ways for me to get there.

Of course life seems to offer daily little unfamiliar and unknown territories for all of us.  Whether near or far from home there are always new and sometimes difficult times to get through.  I may not be much of a world explorer but I certainly have explored a lot of life.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.

Chapter 4, Page 25, Book 13

People love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back.

Maya Angelou

TODAY'S WORD:

Warm

Of or at a fairly or comfortably high temperature

For the most part, I've needed a sweater on to keep warm during the chilly Spring days we've had so far. I often keep a cozy throw by my chair in the evenings to keep warm while watching TV or reading a book.

I want to be warm and not chilly so I often do things to make sure I am warm.  This week I'll be visiting one of my son's and thankfully he lives where it should be much warmer.  Northern Ohio will be left behind for a few days and I'm going to enjoy feeling warmer for awhile.  Hopefully I won't be needing that warm sweater at all.

Besides the actual warmth of the sun, there will be lots of warm feelings surrounding me on this trip.  Seeing part of my family that lives far away is such a blessing.

If the world seems cold to you, kindle fires to warm it.

Chapter 4, Page 24, Book 13

Would that there were an award for people who come to understand the concept of enough.  Good enough.  Successful enough.  Thin enough.  Rich enough.  Socially responsible enough.  When you have self-respect, you have enough.

Gail Sheehy

TODAY'S WORD

Enough

As much or as many as required.

My oldest son recently had a large storage shed built to hold all the things that he and his family have that no longer fit into his garage and the small shed he had in his yard.  Outdoor toys, garden implements, Christmas lights etc. had accumulated to the point that they needed more storage.

There are days that I think it would be nice if I had the room to have a storage shed in my yard.  But it's a small space and what is there I want to have for grass and flowers so I can enjoy it.  Meanwhile the attic and the basement will have to serve as my storage space.  I've whittled things down a bit but there is still a lot there.

In what I call the living space of my house, I really have everything I need in order to live.  The accumulated stuff in the storage rooms are over and beyond what is needed, yet I continue to hang on to them.

At some point I really need to say enough is enough. I don't think I'm being greedy by keeping what I have.  The stuff I have would not make a difference in anyone's life if I were to give it away.  But just how much of what I have, do I really need?

I really do have enough of everything and it's taken me a few years to realize just how blessed I am.

Earth provides enough to satisfy every man's need, but not every man's greed.

Chapter 4, Page 23, Book 13

Colors are the smiles of nature… they are her laughs, as in flowers.

Leigh Hunt

WORD FOR TODAY:

Artistic

One, such as a painter, sculptor, or writer, who is able by virtue of imagination and talent or skill to create works of aesthetic value, especially in the fine arts.

Sensitive to or appreciative of art or beauty

I do appreciate art in many forms and I am thankful for all the beauty that surrounds us every day.  I believe that God's artwork is above and beyond anything a human hand could create.

I think God is the ultimate artist. God is an artist, a creative genius unlike any other being who ever was or ever will be because he created everything out of nothing.  And it was all good!

I love being outside and nature never fails to delight me.  It may be the clouds in the sky, a bird at the feeder, or a flower blooming in the yard.  It is all beautiful.

I do miss the days that I got to spend at my camper in the woods.  I really felt a part of nature there where the countryside was right before my eyes.  But nature isn't just in the country, it is in the city too and I'm leaning now to appreciate the things closer to home these days.

God took something worthless, dust, and made it into a priceless work of art.  You and me and every other person were created to display His glory.

Art is Man's nature.  Nature is God's art.

Chapter 4, Page 22, Book 13

A kiss without a hug is like a flower without the fragrance.

Proverb

TODAY'S WORD

Kiss

Touch with the lips as a sign of love, reverence, or greeting

There's the maternal kiss, the friendly kiss, and the kisses of love and affection.

There is a kiss for luck and the ...

The kiss of the sun for pardon

The song of the birds for mirth

One is nearer to God's heart in the garden

Than anywhere else on earth

Dorothy Gurney

There is the kiss of life used by first aiders all around the world.  There are butterfly kisses and goodbye kisses.  Some of us have even had a friendly kiss from a pet or two.

A kiss, when all is said, what is it?
A rosy dot placed on the 'i' in loving;
'Tis a secret told to the mouth instead of to the ear.
Edmond Rostand

Chapter 4, Page 21, Book 13

The sun has come out... and the air is vivid with spring light.

Byron Caldwell Smith

WORD FOR TODAY:

Vivid

Producing powerful feelings or strong, clear images in the mind

of a color,  Intensely deep or bright.

The first thought I had about the word vivid was about vivid colors.  Colors that are bright.  But there are also those that have a vivid imagination.  They can think about things above and beyond the norm.

If something is vivid it really stands out.  It makes us look twice.

Certain things remain vivid in my mind.  Things I'll never forget like the birth of a child, or my wedding day.  Vivid memories are mostly a good thing. Vivid moments that were so beautiful that they stay with us forever.

I think the most vivid of colors can be found in a sunset.  Beauty is all around us.  We can enjoy every moment we have by living in the present and being vividly aware what we have, see or do.  Each day we have a chance to create those memories that take our breath away.  Every day it is our choice to make vivid memories of our very own.

Learn from the past, set vivid, detailed goals for the future, and live in the only moment of time over which you have any control: now.
