Hurrah for the pumpkin pie….
In just a few short weeks families across the US will be setting their tables for the perfect Thanksgiving feast. There is a special place in my heart for Thanksgiving! I love the season, the food, the family and friends, the reason for celebrating and the preparation!
Pumpkin pies have been a tradition here at my house for years. Every year each family brings a dish to share at the table but for some strange reason, no one has volunteered a pumpkin pie for this year’s dinner. We will have a pumpkin crunch cake and some cookies instead. I may just have to volunteer to make the pie myself.
It just doesn’t seem right to break all the old traditions. To me traditions are a beautiful thread that stitches the heart and minds of one generation to the next. My children no longer come to my house for the holidays, We gather at one or the other of the homes of my children. They all have larger homes than I and with our big family it is way to crowded here. That is a blessing in one way as it saves a lot of work here, but I miss them coming home.
Family traditions build intimacy and memories. Friendship is built on a foundation of shared experiences, vital to growth and the strength of connection. When you share your heart with someone, the bond is there forever. The blessings multiply! I’m trying to be thankful for old traditions and new ones too.
Thankful list - Day 8

May you always be able to count your blessing... large and small!
