Chapter 12, Page 3, Book 12

Day of Hope
Edgar Guest, The Gift of Christmas

Christmas is the one day of the year
that carries real hope and promise for all mankind.
It carries the torch of brotherhood.
It is the one day in the year when most of us
grow big of heart and broad of mind.

It is the single day when most of us
are as kind and as thoughtful of others
as we know how to be;
When most of us are as gracious and generous
as we would like always to be;

When the joy of home is more important
 than the profits of the office;
When peoples of all races speak cheerfully
to each other when they meet;
When high and low wish each other well;
And the one day when even enemies forgive and forget.

Monday, December 3rd:  Hope

For nothing will be impossible with God.
Luke 1:26-45

Advent seems to me to always be a time of new beginnings, a chance to make the world new again, to start over, to do things differently. Every Christmas miracle begins with a change of direction.

And for a lot of us Advent is about our deep yearning for God to fix things.

THE TWO WORDS THAT ARE PROBABLY THE MOST DREADED IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARE, NO HOPE.

But we are assured that those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.

Advent is like the rising sun filling us with hope and expectation each day.

God is always near to us, but we need to be alert to that presence.  Advent is a time that reminds us that God has come to us and will continue to come to us.  The word Advent means to come.

What is nice with hope in God is that he always keeps his promises and word so even though it seems like no hope here on this side of eternity, we know we definitely have hope on the other side :) That brings me great comfort indeed!

I must thank you for that one by Guest. He has been one of my favorites since 1953 when my teacher, Mrs. Grill, forced us to memorize one of his poems. It has been real to me ever since.
I HOPE life is great for you today, funny, I know it will be.

Nice day here.
