Chapter 6, Page 8, Book 12

Just as the wave cannot exist for itself, but must always participate in the swell of the ocean, so we can never experience life by ourselves, but must always share the experience of life that takes place all around us.

Albert Schweitzer

FANTASTIC Friday!  / Everything precious in life

Life is fantastic when you think about how many thousands of things we count as precious.

No doubt most of us have a pretty good idea what the word precious means. To help us more fully understand what it means, lets notice some synonyms for the word precious.
These synonyms include: Valuable, costly, rare, prized, splendid, glorious, weighty, and influential.

An objects value is measured by its uniqueness or rareness and by the skill of its creator for example. a painting by Rembrandt, or a violin by Stradivarius. Although those items are very valuable because they where made by a master and there are only a few of them available, yet there are more than one of those items in the world.

By that definition each of us are the most valuable objects in the universe because we were created by the most skilled artisan in the universe and because each of us are unique and rare. We are made so wonderfully complex that each one of the trillion cells in our human body has more complexity than the space shuttle.

The value depends on what value you give it and life is as precious as you make it.

Perhaps, though, the most haunting of all thoughts is the reality that we’ve let life slip away quickly, having neglected so many grand opportunities.  Oh, if we could but rescue some of those times. As we arise each fresh morning, we could scarcely better start our day than to think about the value of the day before us

Your life on earth is a precious time. Do not ignore its value; do not squander it in trivial pursuits; do not let it slip away.  Every one of us is losing something precious to us. Lost opportunities, lost possibilities, feelings we can never get back again.

There is a story told of a fisherman who goes down to the sea each morning before dawn. One morning he finds a leather pouch. Still dark and thinking the pouch was filled with small pebbles, he amused himself by tossing one pebble after another into the sea. As dawn appeared there was only one pebble remaining. He looked at it and was stunned to see that it was actually a diamond. He had thrown all his diamonds into the sea except this one. Like the fisherman we are also unable to see the great gifts of our life. Unaware, we toss them away, satisfying our self with an ordinary life rather than the extraordinary one given to us.

Life, time, grace, friendships, faith , family, and health are all precious gifts to us. We must take time to focus on the things that are truly important to us.

The gift of time is a gift of love

Have a FANTASTIC Friday everyone!

Ahhh Ma, I think of the precious gifts of our children smiling in their sleep after a bath, baby powder and a bottle, while rocking them.

Nothing more precious than a life.

Love this one (again of course)
Looks like a beautiful day out side. I am taking Sherry out for breakfast to meet friends. (so I am up early? yeah if it is before 8, it is early for me!) LOL

Beautiful reflection--thank you for sharing it. While I know that precious can refer to the monetary value of thing--like diamonds--for me it means something--or someone--that is very close to my heart.
It's funny--when I was reading your post, I remembered that both my mother and my grandmother use to refer to something that was expensive as being "dear"!

This post was truly inspirational. We are unique and the most precious things we have are sitting right under our noses, but we seldom recognize them. It takes a crisis of some kind to make them noticeable. TKE care.

That was intersting about the diamonds, Ma; but great analogy! Our time is precious here on earth indeed; I think we do need to be reminded of it and not take things for granted, people, events, etc. Again, very wise words!

have a great weekend!
