Chapter 2, Page 3, Book 12

Young at Heart

Fairy tales can come true, it can happen to you
If you're young at heart.
For it's hard you will fin to be narrow of mind
If you're young at heart

You can go to extremes with impossible schemes
You can laugh when your dreams fall apart at the seams
And life get more exciting with each passing day
And love is either in your heart or on it's way

Don't you know that it's worth every treasure on earth
To be young at heart
For as rich as you are it's much better by far
To be young at heart

And if you should survive to 105
Look at all you'll derive out of being alive
Then here is the best part
You have a head start
If you are among the very young at heart.

A popular 1953 Frank Sinatra song...

Have you ever noticed those signs painted on old barns as you drive down the highway?  One I saw had a spotless white sign with perfect red lettering that said : Gutters and Windows, Quality Work Guaranteed. The sign was pristine, but I feared the house and barn directly behind it might collapse at any moment. The paint was peeling, the windows were cracked, and the gutters were nonexistent!

Advertising is great but when you see the disrepair all around it does make you have second thoughts about what  the quality of work would be like

It also makes me think about what people think when they see me.  Do they know that inside this old wrinkled face and gray hair there beats a heart that is still young.  Inside this tired, old body beats a young heart. Sometimes it seems that our body grows old much faster than our heart does. This doesn't seem quite right, but nevertheless it is true. Look at the friends and family around you and see who is still active and happy. Is it the people with the young, great looking bodies or the people that despite their aging bodies still see the good things in life? If you agree that the happiest people are the ones that still see the good in life you will understand what I mean about the young heart.

We hear people say that someone has a good heart. They have looked beyond the outer trappings to see what is really inside that person. The loving, caring nature of a person is there for the astute person to find if they can only get beyond what is shown to the public. The person that has had their heart bruised, battered, or broken learns to shield it from further hurt. They hide that young heart while it heals, but the truly young heart will always find a way to let itself be found.

So whether your body is young or old – keep your heart young. Trust in the world around you, give of your heart, and enjoy the simple pleasures you find in life.

Have a FANTASTIC Friday everyone!

I sang your song but the cat didn't like it. I've been reading but not posting much, this weather has me so confused. I want a young heart too, I wish my old bones could keep up with my wishes.

Too many people are superficial, judging a book by it's cover. It's not what's on the outside that counts, it's what's on the inside of a person that matters. If only more folks could see that truth. LOVE the song. Take care.

TT is correct, judging covers can be way off the mark.
To answer the question of what people see? You and I know that the only person that knows within our older outer shell, there lives an eternally young Heart, is the other older person!
Love the song and the entry. Always a good read here!!!

Coming from someone who's outside is far worse looking than the inside, I can tell you without doubt, IF not for my young heart and sound spirit, life surely would've had it's way with me. Every scar is a battle won. Every smile is frown upside down. Ever tear is joy waiting to be found again. Young at heart... you bet. Hugs.
