There is a joke going around that The Orange Construction Barrel is our state bird. Ohio winters are hard on highways, and summer repairs are critical. After traveling south this summer I found out that we are not the only ones that have those orange barrels. Most every state we went through had roads under construction. In most cases it wasn't pothole repair they were doing, it was making the roads wider. When I traveled over to DS#6's a couple of weeks ago, it was the same thing. They were adding another lane to the road. That is a major undertaking when you think about all the bridge work that has to be done too.
Life is a journey. We map our roads to success and happiness. There are curves along the way, and we must not give in to the temptation just to coast along. There are no roads without potholes. So the people who get the most joy out of life are the ones who learn early how to deal with discouragement. There is at least one thing you can control. Your attitude toward life is a choice you alone can make.
Life is like a road that needs to widened. Believe it or not, the truth is that life needs to work the way it does. Apart from setbacks, we don't develop character traits such as strength, courage, and endurance. Without challenge, we never experience the sweet taste of victory or joy. Apart from our own discouragement, compassion likely could not exist.
I had some news this week that really took me on one of those curves in the road.
My roads have been widened and my pot holes are still under repair... but life here at my house is still pretty fantastic. Orange barrels, it seems is a part of life.
I hope your Friday is a FANTASTIC one too.
