Chapter 6, Page 21, Book 10

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.

Russel Baker

It is the first day of Summer today and I'm sure it is the favorite season of the year for me. I loved Spring because the cold days of Winter were over, but I love Summertime the best.

The 21st of June is the longest day of the year. It is called the Summer Solstice

Everybody, let's all sing together now! It's the most wonderful time of the year! It isn't December, but it is summertime

Here are some tips for enjoying summer to its fullest

Downshift your rhythm into a slower pace. Don't plan too much to do and enjoy being lazy now and then.

Set up a game table on your porch, deck, or under a shady tree. We often do this when camping and all ages enjoy it.

Select a day to visit your town as if for the first time. Our town has a square with a fountain in the middle of it and also a beautiful park.

When the weather heats up the importance of hydration cannot be overstressed. Drink plenty of water, and switch to sports drinks if you'll be working or exercising in the heat for a long stretch. I think there is nothing quite so refreshing as a glass of Lemon Mint tea.

1 c. boiling water
1 peppermint tea bag
1 (3") stick cinnamon
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tbsp. lemon juice
Fresh mint sprig

Pour boiling water over tea bag and cinnamon stick; cover and let steep 5 minutes. Remove and discard tea bag and cinnamon stick. Add sugar and lemon juice, stirring until sugar dissolves. Serve hot or over ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint. Yield: 1 cup

Then followed that beautiful season... Summer....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Have a Merry Monday everyone!

I love summer, it is hard to pick a time of the year I like best. When I was a kid it was always summer because of the creeks and rivers to swim in! Now older, they all have a poetic feel to them.

I love Longfellow. I thank God for Mrs. Grill (7th grade, 1953) who FORCED ME to read some poetry, Longfellow was one.
Love from our camp ground in the Mts of NC.
