Colors of the Rainbow

by Author Unknown

Once upon a time the colors of the world started to quarrel: all claimed that they were the best, the most important, the most useful, the favorite

GREEN said: "Clearly I am the most important. I am the sign of life and of hope. I was chosen for grass, leaves, trees - without me, all animals would die. Look out over the countryside and you will see that I am in the majority."
BLUE interrupted: "You only think about the Earth, but consider the sky and sea. It is the water that is the basis of life and drawn up by the clouds from the deep sea. The sky gives space and peace and serenity. Without my peace, you would all be nothing."
YELLOW chuckled: "You are all so serious. I bring laughter, gaiety, and warmth to the world. The sun is yellow, the moon is yellow, the stars are yellow. Every time you look at a sunflower, the whole world starts to smile. Without me, there would be no fun."
ORANGE started next to blow her temper. "I am the color of health and strength. I may be scarce but I am precious for I serve the needs of human life. I carry the most important vitamins. Think of carrots, pumpkins, oranges, mangos, and pawpaws. I don't hang around all the time, but when I fill the sky at sunrise or sunset, my beauty is so striking that no one gives another thought to any of you".
RED could stand it no longer. He shouted out: "I am the ruler of all of you! I am blood! Life's blood! I am the color of danger and of bravery. I am willing to fight for a cause. I bring fire to the blood! I am the color of passion and of love, the red rose, the poppy and the poinsettia. Without me, the earth would be as empty as the moon!"
PURPLE rose up to his full height. He was very tall and spoke with great pomp: "I am the color of royalty and power. Kings, chiefs, and bishops have always chosen me for I am a sign of authority and wisdom. People do not question me, they listen and obey".
Finally, INDIGO spoke, much more quietly than all the others, but with just as much determination: "Think of me. I am the color of silence. You hardly notice me, but without me you all become superficial. I represent thought and reflection, twilight and deep water. You need me for balance and contrast, for prayer and inner peace."
And so all the colors went on boasting and quarreling, each convinced of their own superiority. Soon, their quarreling became louder and louder. Suddenly there was a startling flash of bright lightening! Thunder rolled and boomed! Rain started to pour down relentlessly. The colors crouched down in fear drawing close to one another for comfort. In the midst of the clamor, RAIN began to speak: "You foolish colors, fighting amongst yourselves, each trying to dominate the rest. Don't you know you were each made for a special purpose, unique and different? Join hands with one another and come to me."
Doing as they were told, the colors united and joined hands. The rain continued: "From now on, when it rains, each of you will stretch across the sky in a great bow of colors as a reminder that you can all live in peace. The rainbow is a sign of hope for tomorrow". And so, whenever a good rain washes the world, and a rainbow appears in the sky, let us remember to appreciate one another

Many hands make light work

English Proverb

GOOD MORNING!

There is nothing like people joining hands and doing things together in order to accomplish a task. One person working alone cannot possible achieve what a group can do together.

Some are better at one thing than the other. We are all unique and have our own talents and when many share their abilities great things can happen.

Years ago people joined together to accomplish big jobs like barn raisings, quilting bees and got some big jobs done a lot faster. It seems to me that people try to be too self sufficient anymore and refrain from asking for help and also hold back when it comes to helping others.

We are having some more of that spring rain today. I doubt there will be any rainbows around, but you never know when one might appear.

For the 2nd day in a row I am unable to drag and drop my graphics to where I want them. I don't know if anyone else has that problem or not.

GOOD MORNING !

One thing I know, maybe two, is that the older you get the faster time flies and if you don’t do it or at least write it down, you won’t remember what it was that you wanted to do at all.

It seems as camping season just began and here we are almost at the end of April already. May is arriving and there is lots going on that month too!

Thursday is another grandson’s birthday and Sunday is one of my granddaughters birthdays. May is full of birthdays and an anniversary too in my family. It’s almost as full of celebrations as April was.

My children and their children now number 24 and that keeps me busy trying to remember who is celebrating what and when. Heaven help me if I miss one.

Our summer like days are gone for now and we have returned to temps in the 60’s. One thing the warm days did was to hasten the blooms along. My lilac bush is now in full bloom and just lovely. The trees now have leaves on them. Not big ones, but the horizon is now green instead of brown and black.

Spring has finally sprung in Ohio.

Chapter 4, Page 28, Book 09

This is the beginning of a new day ...
I have been given me this day
To use as I will.
I can waste it ... or use it for good,
But what I do today is important
Because I am exchanging
A day of my life for it!
When tomorrow comes,
This day will be gone forever,
Leaving in its place
Something that I have traded for it.
I want it to be gain ...
and not loss;
Good ... and not evil;
Success ... and not failure;
In order that I shall not regret
The price that I have paid for it
I will try just for today,
For you never fail ...
Until you stop trying.

GOOD MORNING!

If we think of doing something for just one day…it doesn’t seem as bad as saying I will do it for a week or for the rest of my life.

For just a day I can clean up my house, and for just a day I can stop snacking. For just a day I can put up with the rain. For just a day I can smile. For just a day I can think positive. For just a day I won’t gossip. The list could go on and on. I always do try to live my life just one day at a time. Today I’ll go to work and do the best I can…I can do that for just today.

Our weather has been extreme the past few days. I’m not sure if we set any records, but we must have come close. For just a few days I had the joy of getting my summer clothing out of the closet. It felt so good to be warm.

Yesterday we were at 88 degrees. Today we are going to have a high of 66.

If you stop and think about it almost any thing is possible for just a day.

Chapter 4, Page 27, Book 09

It is clear the future holds great opportunities. It also holds pitfalls. The trick will be to avoid the pitfalls, seize the opportunities, and get back home by six o'clock
Woody Allen

GOOD MORNING!

I made it back home safe and sound and am refreshed and renewed for another work week. It’s hard to believe that this is the last week of April and come Friday we’ll be welcoming a new month.

Once the weather gets nice it really seems as though time flies.

When I got home I headed to the front porch yesterday evening to scrub away some of the winter grime that definitely needed to go as porch sitting weather has finally come. That was about the sum of total of anything else done at my house yesterday. It was 87 degrees. This is what we usually have in July and August here. Not April for sure.

The weekend was wonderfully warm and sunny. I was not prepared for it being so hot though. I should have taken tank tops and shorts with me. I did have some capris and short sleeve shirts and that is what I wore. Now I have what is commonly called a farmers tan. You can see the line where my shirt sleeves ended. I love to soak up the sun and had to spend part of the time in the shade as I was too warm. I can’t even believe I said that…I was just freezing a couple of days ago.

I find it difficult to go back to work this morning. I would rather be sitting there in my chair rocking away and listening to the birds singing as the sun comes up over the hill.

Hope your Monday is a great one and you find lots of blessings coming your way.

Chapter 4, Page 24, Book 09

FRIDAY'S FABLE
THE LONG SPOONS

A friend, having a near death experience, contemplates his life of sin and anxiously awaits his fate in the next world.
An escort meets him at the boundary of hereafter and with a welcoming smile says, “You’re not ready yet friend; you still have another chance. But you’ll return soon, so let me show you what goes on here on the other side.”
Together they enter a great hall where a long candle-lit banquet table is laden with bowls of steaming, fragrant soups, succulent roasts, perfectly cooked vegetables, aromatic loaves of bread, the finest of wines, fruits of every kind, and a dazzling array of cakes and pies. Diners fill every chair, but shockingly, amid luxurious bounty, the scene is one of pain and anguish. Skeletal forms are twisted and moaning in starvation, with barely the strength to strike at each other with their spoons.

Looking closer, our Friend sees that all spoons have long handles—longer than the diners’ arms; too long for the diners to feed themselves. “So this is Hell,” gasps our Friend. “Anger and misery amid abundance. Where’s the Devil?” “Evil resides in the hearts of men,” says Escort, “But, come, let me show you something else.”
The two enter another great hall. And in that hall there is another long, candle-lit banquet table, covered with a similar incredible spread of delicious foods, drinks and sweets. Here the sounds of laughter, chatter and song fill the hall while healthy and happy diners are enjoying the company and the bounty before them.

They, too, have long spoons, but they are feeding each other. “And this,“ the Escort tells our Friend, “is heaven.”

In helping others, we shall help ourselves, for whatever good we give out completes the circle and comes back to us

GOOD MORNING !

It is finally FRIDAY. My favorite day of the week. I hope you enjoyed the fable today. It made me realize the importance of helping others. No matter where we live or what we do, we can help someone. We sometimes are in need help ourselves and it’s very comforting to know that if we do, there will be someone to help us. If everyone would do just one kind thing for someone else what a wonderful world we would live in. I don’t know about what everyone else does, but I am responsible for what I do.

As it is now camping season I’ll be off to my little place in the woods after work today. This is the way it will be from now until the end of October. I’ll be back with an entry and pictures for you come Monday morning.

As I do still attend church even though I’m camping, I will be saying some special prayers for you all there at the little village church. It has become my church for half the year anyway and I do love going there. I get my R & R in more than one way every weekend. The dear Lord has blessed me with so much and I am truly thankful for it.

SIMPLE THINGS TO BE THANKFUL FOR IN YOUR DAILY LIFE
That we live in peace is a great blessing
You have good friends
You are healthy
You have enough financially
You live in an age of medical breakthroughs
You have electricity
You can communicate in an instant
You have abundant entertainment options
You live in an age of instant knowledge transfer
You can travel quickly and conveniently
You have good law in place
The best things are nearest: breath in your nostrils, light in your eyes, flowers at your feet, duties at your hand, the path of God just before you. Then do not grasp at the stars, but do life's plain, common work as it comes, certain that daily duties and daily bread are the sweetest things of life
Robert Louis Stevenson

GOOD MORNING
As we’ve become wealthier, people seem to be adding more and more things to their homes. They then use their homes, and treasures, to justify what they have won in the game of life. I know that I’ve accumulated a lot of clutter in my living space and my inner space
Fewer belongings mean we have fewer possessions to worry about. The less we have, the more attention we can give those things we own and truly need on a regular basis. Nothing external to us can give us permanent and true happiness. We actually have all we need to be truly happy within us
Spending time with family and friends, laughing, enjoying the antics of a pet, seeing a child smile, experiencing intimate and heart-felt moments with a loved one - these times are precious, and free
We need to be content with all the small gifts in our life, things we might take for granted like our body, our home, our good health, the chair we sit on, the computers we have
Enjoy the simple things you do every day. We can find so much happiness in the small everything things

Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated

Chapter 4, Page 22, Book 09

Laughter lifts us over high ridges and lights up dark valleys in a way that makes life so much easier. It is a priceless gem,a gift of release and healing direct from Heaven.
Alan Cohen

GOOD MORNING !
Laughter is a driving force behind almost all friendships, and when your face is red just try to remember that it will soon be someone else's turn - and that you'll be laughing when that happens! If you can embrace your disgrace and laugh with the others, it'll be forgotten quicker. If it isn't, at least in future people will laugh with you, rather than at you. Everyone messes up now and then so if you can take it in your stride and see the funny side, you'll be a much happier person, especially if you can learn from it!

We get so caught up in our anxieties, embarrassments, frustrations and upsets that we carry them around with us throughout the day. But when we find a way to laugh at them, they lose their emotional grip on us and recede into the background

Life is too short to be serious all the time, and laughter is, as everyone knows, one of the best medicines and will help to de-stress your life. Next time you do something ridiculous, see the funny side - just laugh, and if people laugh with you, you can feel good about making them feel good!

I’m always laughing at myself. Sometimes I wonder where my mind went and other times I’m sure I must have been born a half wit. Laughing at my self is better than crying and when it’s hard to find something to laugh about I can always find something about me to laugh at for sure.

Chapter 4, Page 21, Book 09

Some people sit, some people try;
Some people laugh, some people cry;
Some people will, some people won't;
Some people do, some people don't.
Some people believe, and develop a plan;
Some people doubt, never think that they can;
Some people face hurdles and give it their best;
Some people back down when faced with a test.
Some people complain of their miserable lot;
Some people are thankful for all that they've got;
And when it’s all over, when it comes to an end;
Some people lose out, and some people win.
We all have a choice, we all have a say;
We are spectators in life, or we get in and play;
Whichever we choose, how we handle life’s game;
The choices are ours, no one else is to blame.
Author Unknown

All of life comes down to the many wonderful choices we make each day. Let's use them to choose a lifetime of love, joy, peace, happiness, goodness, delight, and oneness with God for ourselves. Let's use them to bless the world, help others, and bring truth, joy, love, and light to everyone we meet.
Joseph J. Mazzella

GOOD MORNING !

After a gloomy old Monday filled with clouds and rain, I thought maybe I’d better work at getting my attitude back in shape or I’d never be able to make it through this work week. The weekend was filled with sunshine warmth and fun. Going back to work and being chilled with the rain and wind I came home Monday evening feeling like I should just hang it up and go to bed.

Choices are something we all make for ourselves. Sometimes we just go along with the flow and join the crowd by complaining. It does us very little good though. I can complain all I want, but it will still rain.

So I’m going to take the advice from the wise people in the poem and quote above and choose to bring a little sunshine to others and just maybe in doing so I’ll help myself out at the same time.

Spring in northern Ohio is full of ups and downs for sure. I won’t let the weather get me down; I’m going to make my own sunshine somehow. I think I’ll start with a SMILE.

The reality of our lives may result from many outside factors, none of which we can control. The only thing we can really control in this life is our own mental attitudes

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Today I smiled, and all at once
Things didn't look so bad.
Today I shared with someone else,
A little bit of hope I had
Today I sang a little song,
And felt my heart grow light.
I walked a happy little mile,
With not a cloud in sight
Today I worked with what I had,
And longed for nothing more,
And what had seemed like only weeds,
Were flowers at my door.
Today I loved a little more,
And complained a little less.
And in the giving of myself,
I forgot my weariness.

Chapter 4, Page 20, Book 09

I got a dozen roses,
From a friend the other day,
But I only have one left,
For I gave them all away.
I gave one to my sister,
Who to me is very dear,
In hopes that it will bring to her
A little floral cheer.
I took one to a friend
Who's not feeling very well;
The flower or the visit
Which helped more ...
I could not tell.
One went to a friend
I haven't known for very long;
She struggles ... so in some small way
I hope this helps her carry on
The rest went to the ones
Who've helped me in so many ways;
They have been a cheerful presence
On my very dreary days.
The roses were so pretty
I just could not keep them all,
Except one single bud standing
Beautiful and tall
My friend gave me the flowers
To help brighten up my day,
But the biggest joy
I received
Was in giving them away.
Author Unknown

GOOD MORNING !
So sorry I do not have any roses to give away today. But I would if I could.
The only thing I’m giving to you today is some of the pictures I took of my 3 day weekend. Some don’t care for the out of doors or camping, but I thought maybe you might enjoy my joy which is being out with nature in all its glory and being with my family. Of course the ones I get to share a campsite with are only a small part of the family, but for now it has to make do.

There will be other times I can share more of them, but sadly not often enough.
I enjoyed sunshine and warm weather Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Sunday the clouds moved in but it didn’t start raining til I was home and that made for a perfect weekend.
I’m off to work as usual this morning. I hope your week is off to a great start. A new week, a new day and new moments to enjoy!

Chapter 4, Page 15, Book 09

Max Ehrmann
Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible without surrender
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;and listen to others,
even the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons--
they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain and bitter;
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs;
for the world is full of trickery
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself.Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love;
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment
it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be,
and whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful.Strive to be happy

GOOD MORNING!

For many years a copy of the Desiderata held a place right in front of me on the wall at work. I thought it was a beautiful reminder of the way we should strive to live. I still do. I thought it was an anonymous writing found on an old church wall. It really was written by Max Ehrmann and seldom is he given credit for it. I checked it out on Scopes. That site seems to know about the truth of most anything and every thing.
I imagine there have been many things like that passed on through the years without the proper credit given. If I were an author whose works had been passed around the world with out any acknowledgement, I wonder how I’d feel. Would I feel proud that so many people admired my work or would I just want the credit due me?
It is Wednesday – Over the Hump Day and tomorrow is the last day of my work week as I have off on Friday and will be at the camper for a long weekend.
Tomorrow mornings entry will be the last for this one for this week, I thought I’d better tell you this just in case you miss me and wonder where I went…but then you already probably know that if I miss making an entry that is where I am.
One of these days maybe they’ll get an internet connection up on our hill, but til then I’ll be absent most weekends and occasional Fridays too.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY

The Cost is Small
By Author Unknown
Kindness has been described in many ways.
It is the poetry of the heart,
the music of the world.
It is a golden chain which binds society together.
It is a fountain of gladness.
Kind hearts are more than coronets.
Kind words produce their own beautiful image in man's soul.
Everyone knows the pleasure of receiving a kind look,
a warm greeting, a hand held out in time of need.
And such gestures can be made at so little expense,
yet they bring such dividends to the investor
I hope your day is filled with a few SMILES and
Lots of SUNSHINE to warm your heart.

Chapter 4, Page 14, Book 09

CHEERFUL THOUGHTS

LIGHTEN DARKEST FEARS

Cheerful thoughts like sunbeams

Lighten up the "darkest fears,"
For when the heart is happy,
There's just no time for tears.
And when the face is smiling,
It's impossible to frown,
And when you are "high-spirited,
"You cannot feel "low-down."
For the nature of our attitude
Toward circumstantial things,
Determines our acceptance
Of the problems that life brings.
And since fear and dread and worry
Cannot help in any way,
It's much healthier and happier
To be cheerful every day.
And if you'll only try it
You will find, without a doubt,
A cheerful attitude's something
No one should be without.
For when the heart is cheerful,
It cannot be filled with fear,
And without fear, the way ahead,
Seems more distinct and clear.
Helen Steiner Rice

Good Morning !
Being agreeable and cheerful under all circumstances is a great blessing. Some people's temperaments just seem more cheerful by nature. Often we refer to these people who are cheerful as having a "sunny" disposition
Cheerfulness has to do with coping; coping with life. Dealing with life and its circumstances; but doing so in a pleasant and positive and a constructive and optimistic way
Cheerfulness involves making a choice. It's a decision about how we're going to deal with life; especially when we're experiencing difficulties and set-backs, or challenges. Making a decision to be cheerful and practicing cheerfulness as a way of life . It is the opposite of brooding, or sullenness, or being irritable, or being discontented, or complaining and grumbling
What's going on inside of us is reflected on the outside; on our faces, and in our body language. A courageous spirit or attitude shows up outwardly; it becomes obvious; a cheerful expression on our face. A merry heart helps us to cope with our circumstances.
It's fascinating to read some of the information about the physical benefits of positive emotions. Take for example, laughter; just laughter, laughter can be a strong painkiller. It can enhance respiration; also stimulate breathing, produces the morphine-like molecules called endorphins, increases the number of disease fighting immune cells in our systems; reduces stress, stimulates the internal organs and improves circulation of the blood. Laughter pumps the heart and muscles of the abdomen, chest, shoulders, and neck. Some believe that a hundred laughs a day is equivalent to the physical benefits of riding a stationary bike for fifteen minutes. That would stimulate us all to read more jokes, wouldn’t it?
Laughter and humor is only one way to practice cheerfulness. We also develop it by learning to smile; by saying something positive or hopeful instead of complaining or grumbling
Another important way is by finding time for recreation and play. Making time, we not only individually benefit by making time for recreation and play, but it's very good for the family unit, for our children, for our mate. We not often benefit personally but we many times help the entire family by doing that.
It's a good to remember that cheerfulness is not just something we do for our own benefit. It's not so that we feel better, but we practice cheerfulness to first of all honor God; to be like Him. Not just something we do for our own benefit. We do it also to make other's lives more pleasant and to strengthen and encourage others too.

When I'm out in nature, I feel a stronger sense of gratitudeand awe, and I see more clearly just how beautiful thisworld is. I need that feeling every once in a while if I'm tokeep a clear perspective in my daily life on just what is trulyimportant and just what isn't. GOOD MONDAY MORNING!
I’m home from my weekend trip to the campsite and I’ll be off to work as usual in just a little bit. It was so great to be back at my ‘little place in the woods’. The weather was a tad on the cold side in the mornings and nights, but the afternoons were comfortable so we enjoyed being outside then. Sunday morning DD’s dogs water in their water dish on their deck was frozen. That is how cold it got.
I went to the little village church for Easter and had to scrape heavy frost off my car windows before I could leave. By the time I got back to the camper, I was able to sit on the deck outside and enjoy my good cup of coffee.
My camper had two little visitors caught in the traps I had left behind. Their vacation time had expired. I’m not sure if they had other friends or not but will find out next week when I go as I re-sat the traps. That is one of the things I don’t like about being in the woods, but it is a small thing compared to the joys I receive.
I put a few pictures on the side bar for you all to see. Every weekend from here on out I’ll be taking more so will have something new for you to see from now til the end of October when we close the campers once more.
It’s back to work today!
I owe, I owe, it’s off to work I go…

in every flower,
and thank God
for it as a cup of blessing.

Chapter 4, Page 10, Book 09

RAINDROPS KEEP FALLIN' ON MY HEAD
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head,
they keep fallin'
So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head,
they keep fallin'
But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me
Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me'
Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me
words by Hal David, music by Burt Bacharach lyrics as recorded by B.J. Thomas (#1 for 4 weeks in 1970)

GOOD MORNING !

We are supposed to have rain today so I’ll go to the camper tomorrow morning. We are supposed to have sunny skies and temps in the middle 40’s for the weekend. This will be my last entry til Monday morning. I will take lots of pictures for you all to see and if time permits I’ll get them on the side bar of this journal by Sunday evening.

The good Lord willing, and the creek don’t rise, I’ll be in my little place in the woods which is pretty close to being a little bit of heaven.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

Stop complaining and start living!

First you have to come to terms with yourself. Tell yourself what it is you complain most about and realize that not only is it bad for others it is really bad for you and for your health

Recognize when you are complaining. The truth of the matter is that most of us don't even realize when we are complaining

Make a list and memorize it of happy times and thoughts and all the good things in your life, like family or friends, or even a pizza place you like! Think about these wonderful lovely things. No matter how bad your life may be, we all get sunshine some days! If nothing else think of that, or puppies or childrens' laughter, whatever it takes

When you feel yourself about to complain, stop, take a deep breath and think about how lucky you are to be alive on this great planet. We are so blessed in this life, just to have breath. Think on that for awhile. It works for me and hopefully it will work for you
